No, we're coming up with a rational, reasonable, scientific explanation for what he claims happened to him. Several people already said how they think an afterlife would be nice.
Note how i said most, not all Edit: rate me dumb all you like you know it's true
Note how i said most, not all
Careful. If you backpedal any harder you might fall over and hurt yourself.
Note how i said most, not all
Even the rest of us aren't exactly patting each other on the back here. You don't have to be an atheist to not believe this guy. I wouldn't believe the guy if I was any religion.
90% of the time you can't remember your dreams (or your dmt trip for that matter); the experience is so powerful that your sober mind tries to protect you from it.
A self-induced DMT trip or ones that occurs naturually (i.e. in your sleep)? I've smoked DMT on several occasions and I remember my trips and experiences quit vividly. There is nothing quite like that.
Careful. If you backpedal any harder you might fall over and hurt yourself.
If you call adressing a misunderstanding of my post a backpedal then whatever floats your boat i guess
How can you prove heaven exists. It's supposed to be all about faith
Are your parents trying to influence your beliefs or something, that's pretty fucked up if so.
No, but when it comes to stuff like this they're incapable of telling when they've been had. It's specifically designed to line up with a view on religion that I (and I'm sure many others) view as outdated; they simply can't see it because it's the view they've been fed by society their entire lives.
dmt exists in almost every living organism on this planet. its role in the human body is to keep us from developing psychosis and other mental ills. every time you go to sleep and you dream, you're tripping balls on dmt. without sleep people get irritable, disoriented, and visibly ill. im surprised this dude remembered what it was like because 90% of the time you can't remember your dreams (or your dmt trip for that matter); the experience is so powerful that your sober mind tries to protect you from it.
I wouldn't say tripping balls while you're dreaming, because a very small amount is released during sleep, but it is definitely a factor in dreaming. But in death, mass amounts are released, and I'm sure in the case of this scientist, a fair amount was released because the body was "on it's way out".
He has the right idea. Seemingly have a religious experience and write a book about it. The believers will eat that shit right up, claiming that even a top neurosurgeon had converted. Boomshakalaka lots of money.
haha newsweek covered this meanwhile the world that isn't america got this
Well, I stand corrected
Don't listen to that guy. You were right to begin with. I believe that it completely explains his visions. DMT is a naturally occurring substance in our brain, mass amounts are produced during fetal development in the womb, small amounts are released during sleep (a more than likely factor in the dreaming product), and mass amounts released in death. It is most probable that this scientist experienced a heavy trip, much like you probably will when you die, considering your brain is still intact when you die. My theory is that you go into this different realm that DMT takes you to when you die, for however long your brain is still active(until it either is no longer capable of action potential or just decays, i'm not sure), and after that, who knows? I suspect nothing. You're just done. But that's just my theory of the afterlife and everyone is entitled to their own. Example of DMT release during death and "Heaven". I believe that "Heaven" will only last for however long the brain is active, but it's impossible to tell without actually dying and riding it out. That could feel like eternity, noting that people that have used DMT, which only lasts about 15 minutes in reality, said they felt like they were gone for a VERY long time, sometimes it feels like a lifetime. If you think about it, the period in which you dream is very small, but feels like forever sometimes. Him explaining his third near-death experience is the best, around 4:00 into the video. Obviously what he says is most likely completely wrong, and you guys have brought up some interesting points. I am completely ignorant about this kind of thing though, and it seems like it would be fun to find out what REALLY happened inside this guy's head.

Not to mention the fact that the US always gets the retarded right wing version. At least from the article list it looks like the contents may be the same.
anything he says is moot because he didn't actually die and therefore his soul would still be trapped in his body Source: I watched dogma once
There have been no documented instances of DMT being released at any point in ones life. Our brain however does contain metabolites that could possibly be bio-synthesized into DMT (i.e Melatonin or Serotonin).
Probably false memories generated after cortex reactivation.

DMT is a metabolite of tryptamine and has major effects on the Serotonin subtype 5-HT2A. A medical doctor that researched the chemical. If you're interested in this subject, I suggest you read it if you haven't.
There is a theory that you live forever in a nanosecond of false reality created in your brain. Because your consciousness cant comprehend not existing.
There is a theory that you live forever in a nanosecond of false reality created in your brain. Because your consciousness cant comprehend not existing.
There is also the theory that, while you may die in one reality, your consciousness will move to an alternate reality where you survive. I've heard several names for it like Alternate World Theory and Quantum Immortality and such. Its a novel concept at least.
But it'd probably be slowed down massively, and maybe it's connected to the whole "life flashes before your eyes" thing. Regardless, if and when I die i'm gonna pay good money to become a brain-in-a-jar.
The experience of DMT is close to identical to the mindstate of sleep paralysis. I've had sleep paralysis every night for over a decade and have seen and felt things that looked almost too vivid and beautiful to be real, way beyond what any vivid dream alone can be. I am convinced this guy just had a glimpse of how amazing the human brain really is rather than something paranormal
obviously he had the experience either before his cortex shut down or just before he woke up
What a boring heaven.
Doesn't the brain release tons of DMT when you're close to death? F*** off with your DMT nonsense. After 7 days there's still some sorts of interference from DMT or whatever? You won't even admit the possibility of it happening to that dude, a scientist, a sceptic. I think it should happen to you next, so everyone can call you "loony" and "crazy" and "dreamer". Stop being so telluric (bound to earth and physicallity).
