The director said he wanted the movie to be taken seriously (like the very first movie), so no kung-fu or lasers.
If anybody watched the first movie, they would realize it was indeed very serious. Godzilla was supposed to be an allegory for the atomic bomb. In the original Japanese version, there is a scene supposedly referencing the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, where a young woman is clutching a child and says "We'll be with your father soon" as Godzilla crushes the building they are hiding in. It was disturbing, to say the least. It's because of that that Godzilla is often considered a Horror film rather than Sci-Fi.
The director said he wanted the movie to be taken seriously (like the very first movie), so no kung-fu or lasers.
No kung fu? I can live with that. But the Atomic Breath has been a staple of the character for decades.
What's with the cheesy emo punk? [editline]17th July 2012[/editline] I don't have a problem with the original films, but they just remind me so much of Power Rangers that I can't take them seriously
Eeeh, the new era of films sometimes had controversial soundtrack choices.
I grew up on these movies. Godzilla 1998 (you know the one) was the only movie I've seen which made me fall asleep in the theater.
No kung fu? I can live with that. But it probably won't have maser weapons or any other freaky sci-fi tech the JSDF somehow acquired as the series progressed.
Godzilla 1998 was the first movie that I rented/owned and had to skip over most of the movie except for the action. Real Steel was the second. God, that movie was horrible.
I watched that movie a while ago. It was honestly pretty bad. I understand it was independent so they had budget constraints, but NOTHING HAPPENED until, like and hour and a half into the movie. Other than that, you just kinda watched two people dick around in destroyed Mexico for a while. It had a good premise though, and maybe he will do better with more money. I think it is good that he might try to focus on the humans, because at least the characters in Monsters were actually pretty interesting. The first Godzilla film focused mostly on the humans and it was amazing, so I'm looking forward to it.
Gareth Edwards has said a million times Monsters could've been two people talking for x amount of hours and it would've been the same. That was the whole point. He wanted something that was beyond a monster movie. A human movie, if you will.

I've never watched a godzilla movie what is it with people and giant lizards
I've never watched a godzilla movie what is it with people and giant lizards
Giant lizards are bitchin
I own all of the Godzilla movies and have seen them 10 times (my favorite being all monsters attack) Get On My Level
Now if they bring in Mothra and Radon along with Ghidorah into the movie, then I would watch
Now if they bring in Mothra and Radon along with Ghidorah into the movie, then I would watch
Holy crap, someone who used the Japanese name for "Rodan". (Fun Fact: Radon was renamed Rodan for US audiences because they didn't want people to confuse it for the Radon brand of soap).
No kung fu? I can live with that. AKA there probably will be atomic breath. Gareth Edwards is probably a bigger fan of the Godzilla franchise than James Rolfe or at least on the same level, both of them are die-hard about it.
That is not plausible at all. You need to look up the Square-Cube law (which basically says that as the height of something increases by *height*^2, it's weight increases by *weight*^3). The REAL Godzilla obeys the Square-Cube law, although there is the minor detail that realistically the act of taking one step should shatter his bones to pieces, but Godzilla 2000 explained his invincibility by giving him regeneration powers that would make Wolverine jealous, so that's enough for me.
Did you just say the one who shoots lazers out of it's mouth is more plausible? I don't want to start an argument, and the most I ever seen of these movies was the American for like half an hour, but goddamn if there was a topic logic and reality should not enter, it's this one.
It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws, it is not.

A human movie, if you will.
That's fine and good, but the characters weren't interesting enough to warrant almost the entire film to themselves. They were better than most, but still not THAT good.
I grew up with this: Godzilla and Godzuki (his son or some shit); and the American version
Hell yes

Goddamn, I have to research this stuff.
I've wanted this since I saw the King Kong reboot. Definitely will keep my eye on this one.
It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws, it is not.
But we should still run like it is Godzilla.
There is a little difference between that and laser beams I thi- Did you just say surface of the sun hot? Goddamn, I have to research this stuff.
It's called the "Pistol Shrimp", fyi. Nature is awesome.
