Someone needs to make a game about that. In the aftermath of some giant war, the internet was shut down. You play as a basement dweller using your internet and gaming knowledge to navigate your way through the post apocalyptic real world and find the key to restart the internet. I would so pay for that.
But you wouldn't be able to walk for more than a quarter mile without taking a break.
Reminds me of that episode of Danny Phantom.
One key to hax them all, one key to trace them, one key to reroute them all and in 4chan trojan them.
But if the internet is shut down that's millions if not billions in lost productivity and revenue. Everything uses the internet nowadays, businesses, government, and even your money. Every second it's down is money down the drain. It'd be like cutting off electricity in 1950's industrial America.
Avatar fits
You can't "shut down the internet" anyway. Sure, you could sever the main connections between countries, but that'd be just about the limit. Short of sending a massive-scale EMP through networks.
