But yes, you do have a point.
If IW made a game with the WTC attacks, or any terrorist attacks against the USA in it, alot of americans would bitch about it too, and it would be banned too. But when russia bans a game because of a terrorist attack "it's just a game".
Has japan banned Medal of honor games yet?
WW2 is part of history,
Russians shooting up airports and invading the US is not.
ok. lets make a game about killing lots of people in an american high-school. lets see if americans bitch about that.
What an suprise. :commissar:
I said this in the ITN thread; it should have been banned. If you had an american game that violently depicts americans shooting up a mall or somewhere and slaughtering innocents, you would expect it to be banned, if it managed to get through being developed. It deserved to be banned.
IW fails at one of the most basic rules of design.
For all those saying so why is it fine for Germans and Japanese etc,
Those are historically accurate (to an extent) games that portray real events. It's almost impossible to keep a balanced view of these events since you can't really play both sides (idiots find it confusing when your switching sides constantly) and obviously there will be some level of bias.
MW2 had a lot of hype and looking at MW1 sales, then thinking about how many kids would be playing the game, Russians portrayed as barbaric and heartless terrorists isn't going to help their image in the future is it?
I salute IW for actually growing a pair of balls,
Russia invading the USA is seen in countless movies, but everyone seems to go apeshit once you see it in a video-game. Why are video-games frowned upon in such a manner? I don't get it.
This applies to sex and nudity as well.

Yeah because it's not like America has ever been to war with Russia or anyhing
Whuh-oh, if Gabe is to be believed Russians already pirate stuff a lot because of shitty localisation, so I doubt this is gonna sell too well.
Cue IW abandoning PC due to piracy.
Who else would we do?
China. Who the fuck cares if the game is released there anyway, it'd all be converted to communist propaganda anyway. Not saying that doesn't happen in Russia though.
Maybe Mongolia? Genghis Khan reincarnated.
Yeah because it's not like America has ever been to war with Russia or anyhing
Good point, The Cold War.
But there were no direct combat between the US and the Soviet Union. Sure, proxy wars in Korea and Vietnam, but that's a different thing.
It still was a pretty dick move of Infinity ward to portray Russia like that.
Dude, did you see those russian terrorists that drove a minivan through some huge gates into a Russian police base, then blew the minivan up!?
I feel bad for those poor russians, missing out on such a gem of a game.

My god, some people are stupid. Cold war, maybe?
I'm suprised it was ever even released in Russia, I remember wondering about this while playing through the singleplayer.

He was using sarcasm.
How does it pertain to american intrests? [sp]The American General leading the defense on Russia kills Roach and Ghost, so then the war wouldn't end, and pretty much portrays us as a bunch of war-mongering psychopaths.[/sp]
It's alright though if it's the Africans, Germans, Koreans, or Japanese though.
You forgot China.
Ahem... Take a look at this, and imagine each magazine is a pirated CD.

Them pirates are at every corner, every market, hell, even legit shops sometimes have them. They're good at masking though. Really, I used to shop like that when I was a kid and I know (that was before I know what "wirez" and "legit" were, alright? No need to go crazy).
Off course, some people might suffer from not getting the real legit games from actually legit stores, but I bet it wouldn't hurt them much.
But then again, for the reasons mentioned before me, I doubt too much people would play it in Russia even if it weren't banned.
Yes, there's fuckload pirated CD shops in our country, because of money makers who download games from torrents and burn them to CD. Hell, we even had pirated CD online shop (thank god it didn't exist now)
i dunno why... probably because of our government that don't gives a fuck what our shops are selling

Oh god. 20 new games for the price of one game in US. Minus multiplayer, but who cares enough?
Although torrents slowly kill off pirate shops.
Well let's see why they could have possibly banned this game, shall we?
1: The game is centered around a Russian Airport getting shot up, Not to mention the failure of the Russian security to handle 4 men.
2: You don't get to play as the Russians and you spend most of your time killing Russians.
3: The Russian troops are stupid in this game, And it always appears that 2-6 men can take down an entire Russian base with relative ease.
4: It portrays the Russian military as ruthless barbarians that just kill civilians, They even say how the "Americans don't kill civilians, We aren't savages" while they also point out that Russia is killing "A thousand Americans for every dead Russian in that airport"
I would have found the game better if you were able to play as a Russian troop invading America, but no that would make America mad since it would probably portray the Americans as savages :downs:
Or you could go play a game that isn't dog balls like ArmA, OFP, columbine RPG or meatspin forums.
And seeing as how the Russians used IED's and anti personnel mines designed to look like toys so kids in Afghanistan would pick them up back in the 80's I would say that they were at least somewhat accurate of what Russians do in occupied countries.
But really, the plot is so horrible and so bad it would be like trying to draw a connection between the columbine shooters and germany. "FUCKIN GERMANS HE GOT A RAMSTINE T SHIRT THEY MUST HAVE DUN THIS! START WAR IMMEDIENTLY!"
I blame you for buying it.

No shit you turd, maybe it's because 9/11 actually happened. The airport scene was just a boring mission that pertained to an idiotic plot line full of holes, inaccuracy and slop.
The US will never ban a video game entirely. Prove me wrong, short of saying that I can't know the future for certain or "Barack Obama."

I'm still waiting for Thrill Kill to be released.
Did anyone see a russian spy on the way here?
I played MW2 with a russian guy..
