4chan founder: Zuckerberg is “totally wrong” about online identity
I'm not saying the entirety does it.
I like Moot and I regularly check out /v/ so shut up already. It has its bad and good.
/v/ is barely any better than /b/. All it's good for is talking about how much you hate video games.
Poole argued that anonymity allows users to reveal themselves in a “completely unvarnished, unfiltered, raw way.”
Which in pretty much all cases comes down to being an absolute asshole, not exactly a point in your favor.

Exactly why I go there, some of the shit they say there leaves me in stitches.
4chan: The only thing on Facepunch that instantly derails a thread

Don't forget cats.

And Religion.
/v/ is the best general discussion board on the internet
I'd rather see something that follows this approach.
tl;dr: People have different groups of contacts that don't mix well, the internet should reflect that. People have 4 friends on average and can only sustain ~150 weak ties.
Look up Diaspora, see if you can get yourself in beta.
4chan has alot of good sects, Basically the only stupid parts are the 18+ sections(and of course SOME other ones)Think of how much things have came out of 4chan all together.

Its a mixed bag really, just like any other website.
When are they going to make a movie about this guy.
There may be less motivation to contribute anonymously. From what I've seen, the best posters on 4chan identify themselves somehow.
That really could go both ways, though. While the more timid among the community may feel better encouraged to 'contribute', you get a lot who seize the opportunity to be obnoxious. Still, I like his idea for Canv.as.
People are really obnoxious, annoying and stupid in realife too though. A clear name can't prevent stupid people from being stupid.
There may be less motivation to contribute anonymously. From what I've seen, the best posters on 4chan identify themselves somehow.
And those others who now choose not to be one of the best posters and identify them self would become great contributers instead of contributing nothing because there is no way to be anonymous?
Doesn't sound right. If the motivation would be the clear name, they could identify themselves and start contributing right away.
sigh. Why does everyone judge 4chan based on /b/? /v, /x/, /mu/ and some of the other boards are actually pretty cool. I'll admit, I /b/rowse, but honestly you build a resistance to the shit you see on there.
I agree, some of the other boards are pretty decent. Each board has it's fair share of trolling though.
Here, have some screencaps from /ck/.

It makes me sad how many people judge 4chan because of /b/. Most other boards are fine, I'm partial to /tg/ myself because it's relevant to my interests, there're boards for everything. Poole is right in the invigorating power Anonymity holds.
Isn't he super bankrupt or something?
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
Like several million dollars bankrupt
Huh? Source?
no one will remember what was in here, no one.
M00t is a p.cool guy

"dur hur 4chan suxx"
Poole only created 4chan, he did not create the community itself, and you hate him for that?
Grow some sense
you're a fuckin moron

People who use tripcodes ("tripfags") are among the worst posters on the site actually.
It's not like every section of Facepunch is perfect.

Or every section of the internet....there are always bad seeds.

We keep the OIFY buried though

No, we dug the hole, but we forgot to fill it back in.

If you're talking of tripcode users you just put me in stitches

/tg/ is probably the best board overall
Sure, it has its share of trolls like most boards but looking at the amount of homebrew systems, campaigns and rulesets they've created it's pretty astonishing
Gotta agree with the man. /b/ is pretty tolerable in smaller doses too, every now and then something cool happens.
In real life though, aside from the occasional "nerd" group (for lack of a better term) or anime club, it's hard to find a social circle of people that actually respects the opinions of anyone who posts on 4chan or its creator (or at least admit to it).
People would much rather openly admit to agreeing with the creator of Facebook's opinion than agreeing with the creator of 4chan's opinion.

Funny because if they actually understood what Zuckerburg wants to do to the internet, they'd shit bricks.
People who use tripcodes ("tripfags") are among the worst posters on the site actually.
Agreed, they're usually attention-seeking dicks who are not worth the time. The only time I don't mind a tripfag is when they're posting lots of related content so you can sort out legit posts from the copycats.
does anyone have a canv.as invite, I'm interested in trying it out.
