What is the difference between Rock Band and Guitar Hero? They both look equally unappealing and boring to me.
why should anyone bother explaining it to you if you don't like either of them?
Hey, give Activison a chance. It will probably sport amazing unheard of gameplay mechanics. Like, I don't know, maybe five colored buttons and a bar to emulate the playing of notes on a guitar? Shit, we could make some money with this.
Some things just won't die

Because I asked?
I never played either, but from what I saw, they look like the exact same thing.

Every time we give Activision a chance we end up disappointed.
Sometimes I wish Harmonix would resurrect the GH franchise instead. Go back to the good ol' days.

um, why?
Rock Band is superior to both the new and old Guitar Heros and the basic gameplay is the same
and Harmonix doesn't own the rights to Guitar Hero so
At least this gives Rock band competition again.
Guitar Hero <= CoD's fucking repackage and release.
Bobby Kodick, please go die. No-one likes you ye feegit.
How can you REBOOT a game with no storyline or plot or any main characters what so ever?
I don't even understand that seriously.
Both those games are shit, everyone knows that rockband has won the 'instrument game' war.

Rock Band doesn't try to fuck you over.
If we could have a Guitar Hero game where buying it gave you access to say, 50 songs of your choice from a rather large song bank (then players can only pick the songs they want, and not the crap), cheaper DLC songs (I always thought 160 MS points was asking alot), and a few flashier features (I'd love to be able to change the 'effect' on the guitar (maybe even have it come with one of those effects pedals), perhaps adding in a sixth button (Super Expert mode?) or something, just to make it worth buying for the people who presume all the games are the same, and generally improving upon the teamplay aspect (When the band are all playing in sync, it should do more than just increase the score, maybe allow them to miss a note or two and not lose the sync), then I would be sold.
Me and my friends occasionally dig out Guitar Hero on a boring weekend, and we always have a good time. If they are going to make a new one, they should at least do it right and not in the money milking sense.

Rock Band's guitar was total shit compared to Guitar Hero, but the games tended to be slightly better.

I hope that means we are getting a fresh set of characters, but that is too much to ask from Activision.
Kotick's favorite games are the ones that are the same every year, because not changing any formulas from the original one that people loved is what sells.
DJ Hero didn't kill Guitar Hero, Rock Band did, GH made you buy a whole new game for some new songs while RB sold songs as cheap DLC AND let you export songs on the disk from the first game into the second (they might have let you do that with the third too, I'm not sure), meaning every single RB game has several times as many songs as a GH game.
The only advantage GH had over RB is that RB1's controllers were made out of shitty cheap plastic, particularly the bass pedal, all the other controllers they've put out since are fine.

I had two RB1 guitars and both broke. The first one had the whammy bar break and on the other one one of the battery contacts rusted somehow. Both lasted pretty much since the 1st game came out.
One thing I really want to complain about in these games is some of the songs they put in. Sure they want to appeal to a wide audience, but you don't do that by putting in Spanish songs most of the world has never heard of and hipster bands. You do that by putting in everything from country to black metal.

RB3 actually had a pretty shit setlist with the exception of a few songs to be honest.
I hope Guitarsmith sets a new standard. For everyone of plays guitar, or wants to learn, its gonna be amazing.
Dj hero is awesome excuse me?
Next thing you know he'll be trying to reboot Tony Hawk.
I kind of liked playing the DJ Hero demos at Best buy and stuff, but never got around to buying the game. I think having to buy a new controller had something to do with it.
But god forbid there be another guitar hero. Rock band 1 is still better than their last guitar hero, and the graphics remain last-gen. Let it die already, or stay dead.
rock band uses songs that you would find on someones ipod, while gh is just anything you'd find on a top 100 rock songs list
uh what
Rock Band has a huge variety of music, especially with Rock Band Network allowing lesser known bands(and in some cases, rather well known bands) to easily get their songs in the game.
Shout vs pjanoo was good and so was Radio Gaga vs all of me.
[editline]21st July 2011[/editline]
Still thats only like 2 songs...
and both of those are mashups. good djs make actual songs of their own.
plus, dj hero didn't have the friend factor so that was a downside.
I really like DJ Hero :smith:
Sometimes I feel like the only person who prefers Guitar Hero to Rock Band, as someone who played the shit out of GH3 (Beating TTFaF on Expert made me realise I needed to play actual guitar) I can say they are virtually identical however I prefer Guitar Hero's art style and overall personality. Just a matter of preference really, I fail to see an argument between them (besides the whole DLC thing), they are the same game with a different coat of paint.

what no
the engines are entirely different you don't know what you're talking about
especially GH3 vs. rock band

So? That's exactly what I was saying. They're exactly the same with a different engine, and I prefer GH's engine. It's as simple as that.
do you even fucking know what an engine is because you said they were the same thing with a "different coat of paint" and you prefer Guitar Hero's "art style and overall personality"
do you even fucking know what an engine is because you said they were the same thing with a "different coat of paint" and you prefer Guitar Hero's "art style and overall personality"
Well I'd like to hear your interpretation. I challenge you to describe how the premise of the gameplay is fundamentally different between them.

Rage
just because a games engine is different doesn't mean it can't be the same thing as the other.
where did he even say 'engine' anyways? You could have Half-Life 2 in the Unreal engine, just like Unreal in the source engine, it'd be a little different, but the same thing.
Well I'd like to hear your interpretation. I challenge you to describe how the premise of the gameplay is fundamentally different between them.
we're not talking about the premise you fucking nunce we're talking about the fact that you said they are "virtually identical" despite that not even being remotely true on many, many levels
i'm not even sure you could have played Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 and not noticed how much fuckingn easier it is to hit notes in GH3 because of the absurd timing window.
