we're not talking about the premise you fucking nunce we're talking about the fact that you said they are "virtually identical" despite that not even being remotely true on many, many levels
i'm not even sure you could have played Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 and not noticed how much fuckingn easier it is to hit notes in GH3 because of the absurd timing window.
You sure are pissed off, I think you should lay down or something.
Funny, Guitar Hero wad originally made by another studio then Activision bought the games licensing and such, but the same studio they bought it from is now making Rock Band.

...You're not serious are you? Yeah, Guitar Hero isn't EXACTLY the same as Rock Band, but it's not exactly a fucking FPS or something, they are the same genre with exactly the same method of input, the fucking colours on the main fretboard are identical, and the same fucking premise, that is playing along to music on fake instruments for fun. A tiny thing like the accuracy window simply does not affect comparison. You might not have been talking about the premise of the games but last I checked, I was.

lol ok sir back pedal i'm sorry that "virtually the same thing" covers far more than the premise

So what you're saying is, if I took CoD, changed the artstyle to be slightly cartoony and have greater weapon accuracy, it'd be a completely different game with no oppurtunity for personal preference between them?
GH and RB aren't virtually the same, the note windows are quite different, GH has slides and open fret notes, RB has unison bonuses and solos and star power works that differently it's like medkits and regenerating health in FPSs.
wow are you seriously that stupid?
Rock Band has keys and harmonies, that's a pretty fucking big difference.
Guitar Hero bass has open notes.
Rock Band drums have a different layout and a different number of pads.
Guitar Hero and Rock Band have different implementations of drum sustains(and Guitar Hero's is retarded. look at me! i can hit one note in a drum roll and not do anything else and still hit it!)
Rock Band has "drum sustains" for Guitar that make hitting awkward trill and weirdly timed strumming less retarded
not to mention pro mode for guitar/bass.
saying the differences between the games are purely aesthetic means you don't know what you're talking about
and when the fuck did i say you couldn't have personal preference? stop reading things into my post

and it's not like i just listed all of the differences between the two

I'm not denying this, but they have the exact same target audience, and the premises are the same. So what if I may have overstated by saying they're identical, they were both created with the same thing in mind, with minor differences, and I, for one, prefer the GH take on it. That's all I was saying.

Then why are we arguing? I'm not trying to deny the existence of features which obviously exist.
they don't even have the same target audience. both games have an obviously different set of people they appeal to
Guitar Hero's more about the game, Rock Band is more about the music.

I prefer RB mostly because of the shit loads of songs I like they have compared to the selection most GH games have (a quarter good songs, half decent songs, quarter Spanish/hipster filler songs).

You're joking, right? To the average consumer, they identify as the same thing, a game in which you play along to music.

I haven't actually properly played Guitar Hero since about '09, and I suppose, on a different note, you could say I prefer it because it is more "gamey". As someone who plays real guitar if I'm going to be playing a game about guitars I don't want to feel like I might as well be doing the real thing. I do agree that Rock Band the DLC advantage but that isn't what I'd be playing it for.
I apologize for any self contradictions in my arguments for I am biblically tired.

there are fundamental differences between the two games and how they market themselves that this simply isn't true
Guitar Hero is trying to be more "gamey"(to the point of absolute ridiculousness in GH6), Rock Band is more about the music experience. the target audience may overlap in some areas, but they aren't the same.

Okay. You're right on this front. I'm going to let this rest for now but my point remains that they both provide very similar experiences and to deny this fact is nothing less than delusional. All I was trying to describe in my initial post was that I feel like one of few people who prefers the experience delievered by GH as opposed to Rock Band. I suppose I can't really talk given I haven't properly played for a very long time, but you get the gist of it.
