Health care costs will increase anyways no matter what we use. But Government controlled health care is not what the public is in majority for. Even a recent CNN poll reveals that 59% of people oppose health care. Remembering that CNN is a left leaning media outlet, that's a substantial number. Rasmussen Report's poll is more forgiving, giving opposition at 54%. Considering these numbers, Democrats have effectively set themselves up for a real possibility of losing big time in the 2010 elections. There's 33 states now that have set up legislation against universal health care, the biggest targeted is the mandatory health care (if you don't pay for health care you pay in fines.) Yes there will be 23 million people that will be insured, but that is only possible by placing 16 million into medicare, a failing program that is already overstretched and rationing with people currently in the program. Democrats are just setting themselves up for a political disaster and I don't think half of them know it.
But Government controlled health care is not what the public is in majority for.
uh, it's not government run healthcare, nor is it the minority. [editline]09:20PM[/editline] also, gj, you didn't read the pdf [editline]09:21PM[/editline] A majority of states have legislation against gay marriage, doesn't make it right to be against it [editline]09:22PM[/editline]
Sorry, but isn't that a big enough reason? Eventually the U.S. isn't going to be able to print money like it is nowadays. Say they run out of money to pay for this universal healthcare, even more people would lose their health insurance and it'd be worse than it is now. If the healthcare system collapses then others are sure to follow.
It's not universal healthcare [editline]09:22PM[/editline] what "others"? [editline]09:22PM[/editline] annnnd the us isn't printing money?
Can someone find that story someone posted on 4chan or something? It was like "So I woke up and watched the TV maintained by the government and then I went to work on the roads built by the government and when I got home I went on the internet and complained about how the government can't do anything right" [editline]08:37PM[/editline] Oh here it is.
This morning, I woke up to my radio alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly run by a state agency and supported by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility with its quality monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the Federal Communication Commission regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). I watched this while eating my breakfast of US Department of Agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). At the appropriate time as regulated by the US Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the US Naval Observatory, I got into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US Postal Service (USPS) and drop the kids off at the public school. After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal’s inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it’s valuables thanks to the local police department. I then log on to the internet which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration (DARPA) and post on freerepublic.com and Fox News forums about how the government better keeps its hands off my Medicare and to remind everyone that SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right.
Classic
so the only reason why you think it would fail is because it's adding to a debt? what do you think happened during FDR?
FDR removed the gold standard so we could print money, and more than half of his programs ended up failing anyway. The only substantial program of FDR's that remains is social security which is going bankrupt.

:sigh:
where does it say they just printed money instead?
I'm guessing it was suppose to be implied. Be nice to have it in print/text though so it could be verified.
It's common sense to be able to predict whether something as big as this will work or not? Honestly this isn't as simple as you're making it out to be. It's a pretty big risk throwing a trillion dollars into something like this. I think you've got your head shoved so far up your ass you can't see the actual problems this could cause.
You sure know more then Obama!
