• The end of an era: iPod Classic discontinued
The Walkman may have started the first portable music revolution, but the iPod began the second. It increasingly put thousands upon thousands of songs in your pocket, and made it so that no one ever had to leave behind a track from their library again. And beyond all of that, it just happened to kickstart Apple’s dominating position in mobile. Today, just shy of the 13th anniversary of its initial release, the classic iPod is finally being discontinued. Here’s a look back across the revolutionary line of MP3 players, from its simple beginnings, to its flashy days of glory, right down to its final redesign.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/9/4715274/ipod-classic-discontinued-a-visual-history
Please no. I don't want the only MP3 players around to be either gimmicky or extremely expensive. Smartphones and iPod Touches don't have enough space to support some peoples' libraries.

I got a Ipod Classic 120gb. I've had it for ages damn things still runs like a champ. Plus it is exactly what you need, great battery life, plenty of storage and plays music. I don't need a touch screen, apps, and all that other shit.
I bought an iPod classic to do music in my car it's perfect sad to see it go
Used to have an 80 gig. Think I may have to get another one, since my 3rd Gen Shuffle keeps requiring special headphones.
The Ipod classic has all I need in a mp3 player. I hope to god mine lasts me forever.

Time to buy another one as backup The best thing Apple ever made
This is all I need as encouragement to buy one now.
what apple has shown today can be summed up like this for me: lmao they're still dumb as fuck in the end yet they still manage to pull in the revenue because consumers are dumber apple are still behind the competition in every way and they only thing they have going for them is product design which they pull off very nice, which encourages everyone else to catch up with them, that's it, they're not innovative technically, all they can do is make up some sharp curves in photoshop and slap some myriad or helvetica on it and call it design i say this because their marketing is top notch bait yet still it's hilarious looking, spotting and listening to the buzzwords; in addition to the heavily edited pictures, sharp typefaces etc. the only thing worthwhile apple has done for me was the ipod classic specifically, and now i don't give a fuck and i want to see apple fail so hard now never change apple, never change
Sansa Clips are really great.
In general alot of Sansas support microSD card expansion (Typically up to 32GB). Back when I had my Fuze 2.0 it lasted as a tank, especially with rockbox on board.

Some people actually prefer iOS. Hate to burst your bubble but for my (and a lot of other people's) casual use it's perfect.
i wonder what apple would be like today if they never released the ipod
I would've considered getting a Classic if they'd at least put out one more revision and ditched the 30 pin connector.
i wonder what apple would be like today if they never released the ipod
some bankrupted tech company that nobody cares about
i wonder what apple would be like today if they never released the ipod
Dead.
I'd love to just have one of those simple USB mp3 players, where you just plugged it in and moved over the files. I think Creative made them back in the day.

iPod Classic, the last time Apple said, "Let's give them 80-120gb of space for no extra fee" before they switched to the 8-64gb at triple the price

The volume control is battered to hell, works fine and dandy. Sometimes, it's best to use old shit. Old stuff that lasts is fantastic. Especially with a lot of electronics. Most new electronics seem a bit too fragile in my opinion. But this is why I only go for phones that gimmick on the idea of being able to be thrown at a wall / dropped in a lake

Unless you mean actually having a USB key stick design and embedded connection port so you don't hve to use a cable.
10 bucks says they'll release it again for a limited time in the future, for like 3 times the price
People still use mp3 players?
I have had my 160gb classic for 10 years now and its still going strong.
who needs massive storage space when you have the cloud™
People still use mp3 players?
I prefer my music and my videos/phone having different energy sources.
People still use mp3 players?
I used my Zune (yes) to control the stereo in my car until the tape deck (yes) died.
