I was referring to non violent crimes though, like fraud or theft though.
you mentioned robbery though, didn't you
what's "the servo", maybe I misunderstood
The frequency of those crimes is dwarfed by the frequency of spontaneous crimes like assaults and drug offenses. If someone calls you out and you punch them, you're not thinking of prison. If you light up a joint in your back yard, you're not thinking of prison.
When I light up my joints on my patio, I'm not thinking "I could go to prison for this, prison is a clear deterrence". When I boot for my girlfriends younger friends and stuff, I don't think I could go to jail for that.
Holy fucking shit the current system is solely punishment, not rehabilitation. In the US at least, which is the issue at hand.
no, i said theft. robbery is different.

If you're blaming the faults of the current system(which is what we're talking about) then you can't be lumping that blame on to rehabilitation... Which is what you did. Which makes no sense.

So you meant theft after-hours then, not like holding the place up?

what?
So you meant theft after-hours then, not like holding the place up?
nevermind. it was only an example.
Yes you can. But because they're a first time offender it'll most likely mean in a rehabilitation based system, they won't be sent to prison.
Then that's a problem with rehabilitation.
Clearly here you are talking about how the rehabilitation system is at fault when criminals re-offend, in the US, that rehabilitation system is almost unreal. So how is it the fault of a lacking rehabilitation system when criminals re offend? Isn't that a problem of... well, the punishment system?

Let me correct myself. Then that's a problem with "their" rehabilitation. I wasn't saying there is anything wrong with rehabilitation. But whatever, only you managed to take that post out of context.

Yeah that's clearly out of context.

awk typo
Rehabilitation should be like it is with alcohol. Not mandatory, unless court ordered, and for it to be court ordered you must have committed a crime. I am assuming legalization in this of course.

No you're misunderstanding what rehabilitation of criminals means
It doesn't mean like drug rehab
I'm pretty much lost in this conversation so don't mind me I guess.
I have nothing to say but I guess I'll make a post.
In case you haven't realized, California's going bankrupt. The last thing we need is MORE prisons anyhow.
I would definitely rather have all the people with non-violent drug convictions go free than have them in a broken prison system.
Well you already have a broken prison system.

Sounds too holocausty for me.
Prison, unlike the death penalty, is undeniably a deterrent.
okay that needs a citation considering the huge amount of people who go in keep going in

That suggestion makes a lot of sense and I would certainly endorse it. The obvious cases where I wouldn't endorse it would be for serial killers, but I think that is common sense.
