Carlin didn't preach apathy dude
He didn't preach apathy, but his aggressively cynical outlook towards the entire system absolutely bred apathy
Someone tells you the whole system is fucked and nobody in it gives a fuck about you, what are you really supposed to take home from that?
if we let some bumfuck redneck make all our environmental policies then we would really be in the shits
have you ever talked to a trump supporter about economic policies? their crackpot ideas are so far removed from reality that they're barely coherent. invade the middle east for oil? close trade with china? trade war with mexico?
the reason i don't mock them publicly isn't because they aren't stupid, it's because stupid people don't like being called stupid and tend to double down on their stupidity if you do
"you never know, maybe it'll work!!" maybe if you shoot yourself in the dick it wouldn't hurt. i mean, you've never shot yourself in the dick before so who knows
and then people are surprised that when "expert" policies fail after being told so many time that they are dumb and stupid for disagreeing with them, that then these very same rednecks and trump supporters start rejecting experts as a whole?

I personally got "It's pitch-fork time!" out of it, but maybe that's just me.
Good to see Obama is finally getting the picture.
What we are witnessing is exactly what the American people deserve.
Their reckless and impulsive voting practices are the main reason politics here are the way they are today.
This is just what happens when you encourage ignorance and stupidity.
It bites you in the ass.

Well, I guess it would be difficult to stay apathetic about that crowd getting gunned down

*If they were gunned down
It's like you're intentionally refusing to see any validity to his point.
Look at psychology. The data that has been put out by psychologists in the last 50 years is more or less useless because it cannot be replicated.
You can continue to act like he's being high and mighty, he isn't. He's simply pointing out a problem with the community at large and you're reacting like he's calling them lesser than him. I do not believe he is.
I remember speaking to my psychology teacher, who was also doing his PhD in psychology at a nearby uni, whilst I was in sixth form about this and whether psychologist should up their standards for proof i.e. higher statistical bars and better reproduction of results and his response was basically "lol but I want my PhD published".

Sounds like he just wants to piss into a sea of piss to me
In terms of Russia Obama is 100% spot on.
