Thousands gather to oppose it. While millions everywhere else support it. But guess who is going to end up winning again.
Anyone who says the McCarthy era ended is kidding themselves. That guy's the real founder of modern conservatism, Regan's just the guy who got it into office.
Yeah, you can't really claim McCarthyism is dead when someone running for office accuses his opponent of being friends with terrorists.
I think a lot of people thought that Obama was gonna instantly make everything better. Probably because of the "Change" thing he had going, so now a bunch of people are but hurt because they don't want to realize that change will take time to happen.
Honestly, universal healthcare isn't that bad.
Honestly, universal healthcare isn't that bad.
"Isn't that bad"? You're acting like it's a tetanus shot. Universal healthcare is absolutely essential for any first-world country. Interestingly, I don't have to pay for tetanus shots.
I like the NHS
America has a two-party political system, and whatever the Conservitives don't like, they deem as "Communist-like," "the end of America," "SOCALISM!!!!" etc, and get their pundits to minulipulate public opinion via the media (mostly :foxnews:)
basically: if you disagree with a conservative it's because you're a communist who hates freedom if you disagree with a liberal its because you're a racist and hate poor people
Wow that doesn't sound very healthy. I'm glad I live in a social state. Currently I'm starting to work for the Red Cross. We picked up a guy with our ambulance who called. He was very drunk. while we brought him to a mental hospital we asked him WHY he wanted us to bring him there - he said he wanted to get happy. The station doctor then ranted about how we bring in every drunk guy, we play taxi and stuff, waste money on people who get thrown out the next day. But... That's our system. Everybody gets help. Hell the driver even told me how he reanimated somebody who hanged himself for 15minutes, only that they brought him to the hospital where he got intensive treatment with all kinds of machines and medicine only to die 4 hours later - again. With the money that cost, there could have been saved many people's lives in other countries like India or Africa. I'm glad the way it is here. People tend to abuse the system, coughing 2 times and going to the doctor, getting some medicine and pumping stuff in their body. But it's better than letting people pay for basic treatment. Medical treatment is expensive as shit. Not having an insurance to cover for you are medieval conditions, people suffering from unnecessary illnesses or even dying because of some random stuff that shouldn't even happen in industrialized countries. Oh, wall of text, sorry
So you're justifying the wasteful spending of my money on those who have nothing better to do then get drunk?
Yeah it's been crazy down here. I haven't seen too much since I work in part of the White House complex, but there's more police around for some reason... I don't see what all the fuss is about. Obama cleared up lots of concern from the yahoo's that are bitching about the bill...
Personally I'm proud and happy about these protests. This is the freedoms we have given to us at work.
the freedom to be retarded? Something about cleansing, exercise camps and showers.
I really hope you're not comparing Germany and Obama. [editline]08:34PM[/editline]
If this passes, people the don't already have health care provided by a employer will be given the "option" of getting government provided health care. If the they chose not to take the it, they'll be taxed an amount near the cost required to get coverage. Coverage won't actually start until 2013, but you'll still have to pay coverage/taxes on it despite that fact that it will be several years before you actually gain any benefit. Other problems include higher taxes blah blah blah... It's just not a very well designed bill. Also, our military spending don't get us into trouble, our politics do.
uhhhhh not really [editline]08:37PM[/editline]
'MERICA has been fine for the past 80 years.
I'M PERFECTLY FINE!
Then you and republicans have a lot in common.
Not really, Republicans are pretty god awfully horrid. Boba Fett comes in, sings the theme music of the Republican party as it lays dying.
I'm not sure, where's the problem with American health care? [editline]03:01PM[/editline] Please enlighten a non American.
Making money is bad, we shouldn't do it. Explains why America is capitalist, for now anyway.
Not really, Republicans are pretty god awfully horrid. Boba Fett comes in, sings the theme music of the Republican party as it lays dying.
Yeah. I'm pretty sure that's a bit... off.

Wow, never saw those figures before... that's insane.
Wow, never saw those figures before... that's insane.
do you know what those numbers mean? Even if the entire world was about to invade America, we'd still be spending more money than we needed to

No, but having no universal healthcare does have people live like they might in a third world country, dying from sickness and unable to do anything about it.

You want to fix the economy right? THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY TAXES. People don't understand that the government raises taxes to pay the fucking bills. People expect the government to pull money out of their ass. These tea parties are just bullshit whipped up by the douchebags at Fox News. You can't fix the economy if you have no money. If people legitimately want to get through this then they will have to face the facts and give up eating out every night and spending shit loads on pointless crap so that they can put more towards their taxes. And if they don't like it they should shut the fuck up about how much they want the economy fixed. It's a fucking disgrace that they are equating these bull shit propaganda driven rallies to the noble Boston Tea Party that actually had a good purpose.
from an economic standpoint, no, taxes won't fix the economy. That's not their purpose. They can help by giving money to the government who can use that money to promote new businesses and more jobs, but that's not what they're using it for now. The reason we need to pay taxes now is not because of the economy, it's because of our racking debt. It's getting bad, and now Obama is adding another trillion on top. I want universal healthcare, but face it we cannot fucking afford it right now. What's actually going to fix the economy is doing exactly what you said not to do, go out and spend spend spend spend spend (preferably on shit that supports the american economy, such as restaurants and US manufactured products) Personally I think we should enter martial law for a year and have an income tax of 100%, and then the government allocates resources to individuals only to maintain their current economic standing. Basically, cover the bills - mortgage, food, electricity, what you need to survive. Cease all economic expansion and focus on paying off the national debt. Martial Socialism for one year (it'll take about 36,000 USD from every person in the United States to pay off the current national debt). Sadly that would be incredibly unreasonable (in addition to the obvious) because other countries rely on us for our trade, so if we're not buying shit we're screwing over other people Since that's not going to happen Obama needs to man the fuck up and raise the taxes on the middle class. The upper echelon (the top 3% of taxpayers) pay about 60% of the tax dollars that go to the govt, and the upper echelon and middle class combined pay 90%, with the working class paying the last 10%. Middle class doesn't need to be babied, they don't need multiple houses. Fuck the bourgeois, they can handle to have their standard of living to go down a little bit to save the fucking country conservatives always talk about protecting america and yet they seem to ignore the fact that we owe China trillions of dollars in United States bonds, and if we don't pay that shit off soon china isn't going to be very happy

Just imagine it, there will be a riot, and people will be like 'Take me to hospital!' But they can just turn round and say 'No, you opposed health care, you WILL pay double, or you get nothing' Thats not a bad way to make money actually, they should try it. 'Free' health care for those who choose to pay the tax, and an increase in charge for those who want to stay 'private'. I believe this would sway many minds. However, i do not understand this idea of paying taxes and sharing the cost for a nationalised health care service can be comparable to a corrupt communist dictator. (For a start communism has a bad name because those with power become corrupt, sadly the same happen in capitalism) - I do believe if people stopped to think about it, they would find this would be a step forward to helping their nation. Sure there are some who would prefer to pay for specialised treatment, but surly the majority of people can see doing this will benefit the whole rather than the individual. =/ Just my idea on it anyway.

Christ almighty. They can keep their sodding expensive healthcare, but allow the poor to be payed for by the government. That's how the NHS works in Britain, and it's saved hundreds of people's lives.
