Well when you own a small business and you have to use that $660,000 to pay employees, maintain an office building or a warehouse or whatever, and that doesn't leave you with much.
yeah it does
[editline]10:16PM[/editline]
Doesn't stop people from doing it.
yeah but its illegal therefore you cant really use that as an argument

im still curious about the no taxes at all comment
I've got nothing to really say. The sheer stupidity of the protest is mind boggling.
:psyboom:
Nothing but some ignorant bandwagon-hopping.
Stop acting like I'm still arguing with you.
I'm not.
you never refuted my earlier argument.
You're spending 34% of your working hours working for free.
as opposed to the working class? They're somehow less needed now?
Fuck rich people. You're exactly that, RICH. It won't affect you.
I love how you conservative fucktards whine about how "unfair" it is to tax
No tax at all would be the ideal solution.
that's a retarded idea.
Wait? When did the thread turn into Flat Tax v. Progressive Tax?

At the same time every news thread derails. half way though the third page.

America did reasonably for 200-ish years without an income tax. The entire country was founded on not paying taxes essentially.

200 years? I'm pretty sure the civil war saw the first form of an income tax get instituted to help fund that war. Also, I'm pretty sure they also got cash through property taxes and tariffs.
I got a letter from my Congressman for some reason over the healthcare debate. He mentioned Big Brother.

Things are different now...
America did reasonably for 200-ish years without an income tax. The entire country was founded on not paying taxes essentially.
no not at all,
income tax was established in 1861 but there were still taxes before that, there were taxes in the 18th century
the country was founded on representation and being a government for the people and what not. the people chose whether they want taxes or not.
Things are different now...
Yes, how else would we pay for constant wars if we didn't have taxes?
The two other biggest things the federal government pays for is Social Security and Medicare/medicaid.
Social security is just a way to take from the young and give to the old. The problem that I see is that if young people were allowed to save that money instead of having it taken away, they could save enough to retire without needing social security. If they choose not to save, that's their problem. I shouldn't be responsible for old people who didn't have the sense to save money for retirement.

at least we are still on the government and not on religion or civil rights or other very far off topics

Congressmen who refer to themselves in the first person should have their heads examined.
On the congress free-health-care plan might I add.

uh ok so no taxes is the solution to that?
no money for defense or health programs or paying the interest on our debt, we can just say fuck it and let the country run its course
hey lets just get rid of government totally
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

They worked for their money, the same as anyone else, why should they lose more? Because some drugged up idiot wrecked his car and broke his legs?

I thought the Income tax was in the early 1900 (I guess I'm not so good at math either :v:)
But from what I've done after a quick Google search is that the income tax was initially 3% if you made over $600. And then in 1865 after the Civil War, the tax was lowered to 2.5% on incomes of over $2000.
Nowadays, 20% is pretty average, if not lower than average.

what's your point besides you being wrong about the 200 years comment
The federal government of the United States imposes a progressive tax on the taxable income of individuals, partnerships, companies, corporations, trusts, decedents' estates, and certain bankruptcy estates. Some state and municipal governments also impose income taxes. The first Federal income tax was imposed (under Article I, section 8, clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution) during the Civil War, then again in the 1890s, and again after the Sixteenth Amendment was ratified in 1913. Current income taxes are imposed under these constitutional provisions and various sections of Subtitle A of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, including 26 U.S.C. § 1 (imposing income tax on the taxable income of individuals, estates and trusts) and 26 U.S.C. § 11 (imposing income tax on the taxable income of corporations).
where did you get this idea?
Taxation without representation... As quoted from the people that refused to pay their taxes to England.
Yeah.
They worked for their money, the same as anyone else, why should they lose more? Because some drugged up idiot wrecked his car and broke his legs?
i love how all liberals think the upper echelon is trust fund babies who never worked a day in their life and get all that money for nothing and how all conservatives think the lower echelon are welfare sitting unemployed lazy drug addicts.
Taxation without representation... As quoted from the people that refused to pay their taxes to England.
Yeah.
but the thing is, we HAVE REPRESENTATION now and you cannot use that stupid argument
the whole reason they cranked up the tea taxes in the first place was to pay for the french and indian war in which the british DEFENDED our asses and once we didnt need em anymore we got mad that they needed money to pay for the war so we threw a hissyfit and won the revolution
[editline]10:47PM[/editline]
think about that while im in bed for 10 hours :allears:
what's your point besides you being wrong about the 200 years comment
Reminiscing about the good old days.
Reminiscing about the good old days.
Oh yea, nice days they were. Workers were accessories, blacks were slaves, poor people couldn't vote, and all the injun you could shoot.
But I still don't see the point of these protests. They complain about liberty and freedoms being squashed... but on the flip side they don't mind controling the way people live by telling who they can't marry, what they can't drink or smoke, and preventing them from joining workers' unions...

Hey, if we implanted you into those times, given your Socio-Economic Status into account, life WOULD'VE been kick-ass.

As I wouldn't have been of English descent, I highly doubt that.
I also watch as some of these people glorify Reagan and talk about how things would be different if he was in office. My take.
