Oh man people are scared of things that can kill them. How unreasonable of them.
Doesn't the US have more car deaths than gun deaths? Ban cars.
If you think that that's a common enough scenario to mean anything in a real policy discussion than you are the one outside of normalcy.
What "policy discussion?" I'm not talking about banning open carry, I'm talking about restaurants. It's clearly common enough though because 5 different national chains have asked open carry folks to keep their shit outside because the vast majority of their customer base doesn't want to see it.
I mean, the thread is about the NRA talking about it as a growing phenomenan. It's clearly more common than you think :v:

Automobiles are required for a modern society, government, and economy to function.

Main difference being that the entire use of a car isn't killing people. It's transporting people.
The only use in guns is firing projectiles, often to hit things. It's a weapon designed to kill.
just rate this dumb because it's the truth and you can't deny it.
I would give up open carry in every state if we got concealed carry in every state.
Open carry is unnecessary, and while I don't have any hard evidence to prove it, I think CC is more effective than OC when it comes to their purpose: deterrence.

I would only give up open carry if I didn't need to get a permit for CC.
I would only give up open carry if I didn't need to get a permit for CC.
I'm for permits, but only because I think they should make sure you are competent to use the gun how it is intended to be used. If you aren't strong enough to pull the trigger, or have absolute god-awful aim, then it really isn't helping you and is more of a risk of being stolen than anything when it comes down to it.
I don't think this is a requirement anywhere, and IMO it should be. I think getting a gun should be looked at in an impartial, fair, and logical way. Collectors, go ahead and collect all the guns you want, but if you are to be trusted to carry a gun in public, I believe you should at least prove that you are capable of using it as intended.
Permits for CC users are nice because you know from the permit alone that they are responsible gun owners.
I don't really care about the issue of open carry. Most people who do it just make themselves targets at worst or are just socially unaware at best and if someone is going to shoot up a school or theater the distinction between having a gun on their hip or under a jacket doesn't really matter.

I understand. I went through the course and all. I just never got the permit itself.
To be honest I feel sorry for you if you live in a country where you fear for your life everyday so you have to carry a weapon around to defend yourself
And if you don't why the fuck are you walking around with a gun like it's a fashion accessory
This reminds me of an incident that perfectly illustrates the problem. The "Nose Hill Gentlemen" episode back in 2012.
In short, a Michigan cop and his wife were on vacation in Calgary during the annual Calgary Stampede, and were on a walk in Nose Hill Park when they were approached by two guys who insistently wanted to say hi. What they were actually doing was going around handing out free passes to the Stampede and just wanted to offer the tourists a pair of passes.
The cop was paranoid as fuck, felt heavily threatened, and felt really scared because he wasn't allowed to bring a handgun with him when he came up to Canada. So much so that he wrote a letter to the Calgary Herald bitching about the experience:
"in Canada, only the criminals and the police carry handguns."
He was widely mocked for being such a poor paranoid scarebaby. But just imagine if he had been allowed to have a pistol in his pocket and he pulled it out on these guys.
