EA Games Chief: "We Are on the Offense," Working on Mirror's Edge 2

A few years ago I would have said that EA is terrible. Ask me now and I will say that they are quite great. They have been shaping up nicely these past few years and I as a gamer appreciate it.
mirror's edge 1 was terrible i'm surprised they actually decided to revive the sequel.
EA to quit peaking into their customers wallet and start producing fun, quality games? I have to see to believe
eh
crysis 2, dead space 2, battlefield 3 (perhaps), bulletstorm etc
Yaaaaaaaaaay!
I love hearing that. When a game company that isn't an ominous blob of pure evil is on the offense.

Disagree for the first comment.
Agree for the second one.
We need a agreedis rating.
We're just trying to figure out how to bring Mirror's Edge back
I can see something really silly coming out of this, like "Mirror's Edge - the Facebook game" or something stupid like that. For God's sakes man, what is there to figure out? Mirror's Edge 2, on Frostbite 3, after DICE has finished BF3. Do it.
If this is a turn-around for EA, then I am extremely pleased.
now bring back maxis and bullfrog you cunts
I miss Bullfrog too... I wanted Dungeon Keeper 3 and another Syndicate game. But I doubt we will see them :sigh:
I hope there should be level editor in mirrors ledge 2
There's one in Mirror's Edge 1, you just have to copy some DLL's from UDK / another unreal game and go into -editmode or whatever.
All I could produce were fullbright ugly maps
Mirror's Edge was a pretty shitty game, so I don't particularly care either way if a new one is released. The concept for Mirror's Edge was neat, but the execution was terrible. Awful story, abominable voice acting, and revolting level design and art style. If Mirror's Edge 2 is in the works, I hope they'll have enough decency to buck up for a real development team.
Wow, I think this is the first time I've ever seriously disagreed with BDA on something.

Revolting art style? Really? It's one of the few games where I can just stand around and admire the visuals.
now bring back maxis and bullfrog you cunts
Or at the very least Bullfrog.
Hi ho demons, awayyyy!

This.
only buying if:
multiplayer
more than 60% of the game above ground instead of all that underground bullshit

i agree with you on every point except the art direction

yeah this really annoyed me too.
how they put you inside office complexes for most of the time
I hope it's set before the city got all cleaned up. Would be nice to free run through a gangster filled ghetto.
YesyesyesyesyesYES! Frigging knew it that they were going to continue it eventually, but to so soon? My, this is worth celebrating for! Top hats, top hats and tea for everyone!
yay, EA!

did you just say..
that mirror's edge's..
art style..
was bad?
raaAAAGHHGGH
Nice to know.
My idea of Mirrors Edge multiplayer would be a 'Runners versus Blues' style mode.
Runners have advanced maneuverability, speed, and agility. However, they can only wield a single handgun with no spare clips. They can also use their runner vision to spot enemies from afar or behind thin blockades.
Blues on the other hand, are slow and cannot jump as high or climb over obstacles. However, they can wield two weapons at once, have the ability to reload, and have armor protection. The Blues also have access to locked doors, halls, etc. to be able to get from one section of the map to another.
Other than that, I can easily imagine a Runner vs Runner deathmatch gamemode. Or maybe even a, 'Capture the Bag' mode.

I disagree. While I don't necessary dislike the "simple, clean" art style itself, that sort of style in conjuction with the level design totally interfered with the implied point of the game: fluid running mechanics. The art style, solid colors flooding entire areas, often made it very difficult to determine where one thing ended and another began, especially in areas of bright sunlight--the bloom just went crazy out in that all-white landscape. Not only did this make it difficult to see where you were actually going, it was often a major eyesore. In addition, the level design was contradictory to the point of the game in the sense that it often forced you to stop, turn around, backtrack, and just generally waste time trying to figure out where the hell you were supposed to be going, which is death for a game that's supposed to center on speed, reflexes, and intuition. This was especially the case in the later levels of the game.
It's like I said: the concept of Mirror's Edge was cool and unique, but the execution was very sloppy. If Mirror's Edge 2 is actually in the works, the developers need to focus on smoother level design and a modified art style in order to avoid the problems I described above.
I don't think anybody's disagreeing with me on the story or voice-acting though. Embarrassingly bad.
Thank god. They just couple months ago said they canceled mirrors edge.

Concept for the story wasn't bad, just as you said, horrible execution. Probably half the reason they are spending so much time faffing about is because it's a hard thing to get right. It's not as refined due to how few games have been similar to it so they are treading new ground.
They seem dedicated enough to it to take the risk so it's less likely to be shit, plus the extra time spent in planning is exactly what it needs. Hell, given Brink is pretty much putting everything from Mirror's edge into an actual shooter it'll be a good experiment for them into how the free running works alongside traditional shooters.
Didn't they say that they will be dropping ME2?
I'm glad they didn't.

Don't think they ever said they were dropping it completely, just said it was not in active development. Many people interpreted it as cancelled but apparently they just put it on the backburner for a bit.
They better bring back the PhysX effects.
i liked mirror's edge
i find the free running in the game
satisfying

Artstyle was great, sure if you had the brightness of your screen turned up in a dark room you'd be blinded, but most of the time it wasn't an issue, I had no problems understanding were I was going.
As for level design, it wasn't that bad, it can't all be a straight line were you always know where to go, might as well have a movie if you are just going to hold down W and press Space a few times. I agree that the level design wasn't all that great though (but level design=/=artstyle).
Voice acting was pretty bad yeah, cutscenes sucked, and story was... uhh well there barely was a story.
You may not like the artstyle, but it's all opinion.
"ideas in the Mirror's Edge universe" doesn't mean "Mirror's Edge 2". If anything, it means more iPod Touch games.
Mirror's Edge 2 isn't coming back for a long time. It's time to face reality.
So Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim aren't sequals to each other and aren't new ideas for the elder scrolls universe/nirn?

I agree even though I have hardly played the game, though I got a pretty good view.
Supposedly good attempt at a parkour game, which turned out to be sloppy at a times.
Tbh I just never liked the idea of just simply parkour game, so was never a fan of mirror's edge
