Yes people willingly parting with money to help support other people also makes me frown.
You took what I said way out of context.
Well it kind of does, if someone donates a large sum of money to this one woman they are unlikely to donate much to the wider cause.
No it doesn't, and no they aren't. Additionally this logic could be followed anywhere. Why donate money to tornado victims when malaria kills thousands more?
You took what I said way out of context.
You said it made you frown when people gave other people money. How did I take anything you said out of context?
You said it made you frown when people gave other people money. How did I take anything you said out of context?
Reread my post again. You're either incredbly dense or you're trolling.
Reread my post again. You're either incredbly dense or you're trolling.
At least I'm not alone... I won't argue whatever he believes in, but that does sound like trolling.
Reread my post again. You're either incredbly dense or you're trolling.
It's funny that you want to call someone else dense when you are entirely missing the point of this story and interpreting it as some kind of religious discrimination. I'd recommend reading your post over again, perhaps editing it so it makes more sense.
At least I'm not alone... I won't argue whatever he believes in, but that does sound like trolling.
So you will just argue by proxy. Why even post?
Glorification of atheism is just as stupid as glorification of any other religious beliefs. I'm sorry to break the news, everybody, but the status of your belief in a God or Gods does not make you intellectually or morally superior to anyone else. It's all well and good that you're comfortable in your religious stances, but don't go acting like a big dork about it.
But what will people do to feel superior now ?
Calling charitable people selfish on Facepunch.
The religious aspects of it are actually quite secondary to the fact that someone who lost a lot in a disaster is about to get a lot of charitable donations because someone took the time to responsibility to help raise the money.
Let's do a quick rundown. The campaign is called 'atheists unite'. The subheading says 'Atheists unite and come together for our own community'. The phrase 'atheist community' gets dropped about 4 times in the description. Said description has quotes like these:
Let's show the world that you dont need to believe in a god to have human compassion nor does all charity fall under the banner of religion.

It's important that our community shows that we have your back when you come out publicly as an atheist.
And you say the religious aspect is secondary? How on earth
So you will just argue by proxy. Why even post?
I'm not arguing anything, I'll let ya fill up 50% of the posts of this thread, thinking you're right, I'm cool with that. My day won't worsen cause I might be wrong on the internet in your eyes, you're way too rude for me to give you that kind of credit. You're right tho, why do I even post.
Ok it's cool that you made sure to patronize everyone but this post has nothing to do with the news article posted.
So raising money for someone who was 'brave enough' to publicly out herself as an atheist has nothing to do with glorifying it?
Ok it's cool that you made sure to patronize everyone but this post has nothing to do with the news article posted.
Um. What? He's made a charity called "Atheist's Unite" that is specifically providing relief to atheists based on the fact that they are atheists, especially in the case of providing relief to this one particular woman because she announced on television that she was an atheist. In what way is that not glorification of atheism? [editline]28th May 2013[/editline] I'm laughin' here. Are you really that dense?
[editline]28th May 2013[/editline] I'm laughin' here. Are you really that dense?
Just ignore. Seriously this thread is just about him wanting to crush his opinion into our skull.
I'm going to start a Charity for Oklahoma but only for white Christians who suffered oh and they also have to read the KJV Bible only I really care.

How on earth
Entirely secondary to the fact that a woman who lost everything to a tornado is being supported by the good will of other people. Their motivations, whatever they may be, are collectively outweighed by their charity.
Um. What? I'd have absolutely no problem with a Christian one, or a Muslim one, or one for people who wear blue jeans on a regular basis. You're using the motivations of people willingly letting go of money to help someone else in need to mock the concept of charity and that's just terrible. And when I said your post had nothing to do with the news article, I meant specifically your unbearably unnecessary moral pedestal about how religions don't matter because that specific point doesn't even have to be made, but is made in every single thread about atheism that crops up in this section. It was a complete waste of thread space that contributed nothing to the conversation.
I'm laughin' here. Are you really that dense?
idk I'm not the one filling up the thread with garbage posts.
idk I'm not the one filling up the thread with garbage posts.
Now that's trolling! :v:
Their motivations, whatever they may be, are collectively outweighed by their charity.
Now that's being dumb!
I'm going to start a Charity for Oklahoma but only for white Christians who suffered oh and they also have to read the KJV Bible only I really care.
I know you are trying to make a joke but plenty of church groups raise money that goes exclusively to other churches so it's not like this isn't something that happens already. Except for maybe the white part.
doug stanhope is a real person?

You're seriously going to sit there in your computer chair and argue that because I think it's an ugly thing to exclude people from charitable organizations based on their religious preferences that it's because I hate charity? This woman isn't the only person who lost everything, nor is it only atheists who lost everything. This was an event affecting people from all demographics, and it's pretty hideous to offer help to one group of families, and then tell another group that they can't have your help because their religious beliefs are different from yours. I mean, that's sick. And your strawman of my being anti-charity? Jeez, how embarrassing. http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/daily-news-article/st-louis-parade-honors-vets/
You are being completely ridiculous right now, you know that right?
I'd like to put myself atleast one rung higher than the people calling this selfish atleast.
You're seriously going to sit there in your computer chair and argue that because I think it's an ugly thing to exclude people from charitable organizations based on their religious preferences that it's because I hate charity?
"Charitable organization" Did you even read the article? Are you even aware of what thread you are posting in? Your opening post makes it seem unlikely but this isn't about a charitable organization and their donation policies. Some dude started a crowdsourcing campaign to raise money for one woman and her family and a bunch of people donated to it. They aren't excluding anyone, nor are they encouraging people not to donate to any other cause.
This woman isn't the only person who lost everything, nor is it only atheists who lost everything. This was an event affecting people from all demographics
again thank you for the completely unnecessary and redundant realization that people who believe in god and people who don't believe in god can be equally displaced by tornadoes, I had never considered this before.
and it's pretty hideous to offer help to one group of families, and then tell another group that they can't have your help because their religious beliefs are different from yours. I mean, that's sick.
They never said another group can't have help because their religious beliefs are different. In fact, none of this is even about religious groups. It's about two people. You would know this if you knew what thread you were posting in.
And your strawman of my being anti-charity? Jeez, how embarrassing.
I'd be embarrassed too if I started to whine about strawmen after propping one up myself.

Ad hominem? Really? How am I even trolling?
Ad hominem? Really? How am I even trolling?
If you aren't actively trolling right now, then you are so offensively ignorant that I am embarrassed for even taking the time to attempt to rebut the shit you've been selling.

i reckon rather than having a charity that only gives to atheist people, it'd be better to have an atheist charity that gives to everyone. like red cross and red crescent but run by atheists
i reckon rather than having a charity that only gives to atheist people, it'd be better to have an atheist charity that gives to everyone. like red cross and red crescent but run by atheists
I agree, this would be a good idea and win a lot of credit for the atheist community in the US.
