well personally i feel that the bay of pigs invasion was a mockery of what america (and its flag i guess???) stands for, so his participation invalidates his opinion in my opinion! but mostly i was just saying he's an asshole so who cares what he thinks. plus he's like 100 years old why do people give a shit about crotchety old timers? they complain about EVERYTHING of course they're gonna cry about a flag being different than it normally is.
I hope you have a long life.
Because I want you to get old. Then I want you to have an opinion or complaint and have some smug teenaged asshole like yourself tell you that ...
"Dude, you're like...100 years old. Who gives a shit about you and what you say."
Then see how you feel.
Respect your elders. Especially veterans. They have been through a lot more shit then you have been in. Maybe if you had a little more respect, you would learn a thing or two.
Yeah, this is really dumb and everything but the thing I don't get is why literally everything seems to be "insulting" when it comes to the US flag. To me it seems like a lot of people over there subscribe more to the flag than to any actual ideal. Like, if some one flew a flag over here with Cameron's face on it, I'd think it was really fucking stupid but I wouldn't be actually offended by it or really do anything other than laugh at how dumb it is, much less throw a fit complaining about it.
Wow it's just a flag..

i'm not a teenager mate. and pfft, i respect people when they earn my respect, not just by virtue of being old and as a pacifist i certainly won't respect someone especially because they're a veteran. and yeah man i bet i could learn heaps from old-man-angry-about-flag yeah gee whizz i bet he's got the wisdom of falcon to share with me
Every time I read one of these articles, I keep getting this underlying sense that they are blaming Obama for what happened, like he was somehow directly involved.
Of course he was involved, he personally appeared on the offending flag.
As silly as what she did was, she didn't have to take it down. It violates the flag code, but the flag code isn't law and cannot be enforced, because it violates the first amendment.
where did i say that?

You do realize picking and choosing are the same damn thing, right?

This just got better, didn't it? Seriously, that single post just went and swooped towards full-blown idiot.
The man put his life on the line for his country and another, has experienced his fair share of the world, and knows way more shit than you probably will at his age. His opinion matters because he's been one to give up for it, to see others give their lives for it, and his age doesn't hamper his experience. He has the right to complain if he damn well pleases, so don't even bother criticizing him for it. The way I see it, he earned the right to complain.

i meant he can't pick and choose because the army doesn't let you pick and choose what you do, but he can CHOOSE as in he can choose to not do something. and uh, for his country? how exactly was the bay of pigs invasion beneficial to his country in any way? and for their country? last time i checked the revolution in cuba was a POPULAR REVOLUTION meaning the people WANTED it. of course he has the right to complain, just like i have the right to call him a piece of shit for being a part of the bay of pigs invasion and a crotchety old man for complaining about a flag. you don't earn rights mate, you kinda just have them because they're rights?

If you sign onto the military, you can't refuse orders. That is, unless you want to be dishonorably discharged and be treated like shit for the rest of your life.

i guess that's their fault for choosing a job that steals your rights then huh? and i guess i'm a moran for thinking there are more important things in life than a job and a paycheck, you know, like honour, integrity and human decency. you know, those things the army claims to uphold?

He really didn't have a choice because he can't refuse orders without getting sent to prison or possibly worse because they may have seen him as a Communist sympathizer at the time. Also, he was fighting for his country, because that is the country he belongs to. If he were a Mexican soldier, it would be the same thing. It was beneficial because it was seen as a chance to control an area that the Russians could use to nuke the U.S. into oblivion.
And look at Cuba now, one of the most corrupt governments in the world where doctors can't even get ahead in life without being a Communist or willing to deal in illicit activities. It may have been popular once, but it sure as hell isn't now and the boys back then probably knew that.

Sometimes, you have to give up what you hold close for what you can see as either a greater good, or something less evil.

ahhahahahaha wait NOW you're saying you have to give stuff up for the greater good or a lesser evil after just saying he can't refuse orders because he could get put in jail or be thought of as a commie sympathizer? bay of pigs invasion... greater good... lol..... and your statements about cuba are ridiculous, the boys back then didn't know a fucking thing, all they knew is that they had a hard on for fighting communism and overthrowing popular regimes so they could install pro american ones.
Couldn't he have found another place for his face, besides where the fifty stars are supposed to be?

i highly doubt that obama had anything to do with this.

Wow so your a grown man eh? Quite mature for a "grown man". Here lemme earn your respect...oh wait no I'd rather not earn the respect of someone so disrespectful. Anyone here could give a crap less about how ya feel about a veteran who was present at the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Also no one should expect you to learn anything from this "Old Angry man". Get off your high horse boy.

wow maybe you shouldn't take such a condescending tone when you're trying to call someone else disrespectful? and don't mock my maturity when you can't even structure a sentence properly 'anyone here could give a crap less about how ya feel' lol.
They should have just done this.
i've got no reason to respect someone who partook in the bay of pigs invasion, in fact that seems to me a good reason NOT to respect him. i also see no reason to respect angry old men who look for anything to get pissed off about.
Holy shit Lachzor
Can you share with the class how old you are? Honestly? Maybe with some verification? Because I can't picture anyone over the age 16 being as hilariously short sighted and willfully ignorant as you are
instead of being stupid, respond with a reason to respect people who partook in the pay of pigs invasion?
I actually find it funny that they did that, it's their property, learn to have a sense of humour Florida. Also Lachz0r I don't like you, that comment about the Bay of Pigs, yeah, you're a dick.
Perhaps if people were more concerned with their country than it's flag they would realise it's going to shit and do something about it.
Did these men fight for a flag or their country?

I'm sensing you lack the ability to see this in the greater political scope of things. You realize sympathizing or supporting Communism at that time in America is the kind of shit that would get your entire life derailed and torn apart, right? Hollywood suffered for that so bad that most actors were afraid of the government. Hell, The Crucible was based off that situation. The point is that certain connections get you into trouble, no matter where you go, and especially America.
To put it in terms you might just be able to understand, America didn't have a "hard-on" for fighting Communism, but a good amount of the leaders in America were afraid of it. You've become an incredibly powerful country through Capitalism, and then Communism shows up. Obviously someone's going to get a bit afraid of big change occurring that isn't guaranteed to work.
By conducting the Bay of Pigs and attempting to install governments that were pro-American, they were building a defense network. By taking away places that missiles could fire from, they were lowering possible losses in the event of the nuclear war that almost happened. Try to understand that the people who participated thought they were protecting their families and the ones who approved the operation were trying to do what was best for the country.

they died for neither.

i'm not seeing the connection between "try to understand why did they did it" -> "now respect them and shut up".
It's stupid to put anyones face on the flag, but Obama sure looks thug as fuck. (not insulting)
"The discussion finally got a little bit heated."
Considering it's Florida, I'm guessing he called her a negro-loving pinko-commie dyke.

20 and i'm turning 21. how am i short sighted and ignorant? sorry that i don't automatically respect someone for being a soldier or being old.
i mean being old is just something you naturally do.

what are you trying to prove here? i know why these things happened, that doesn't mean shit though. the why is irrelevant. the why doesn't stop an act from being any less reprehensible or less deserving of respect.
I'm against this flag just because it looks so dumb.
I'm an Obama supporter. The flag looks ridiculous and it is stupid. I mean, it's got a big blue retarded Obamaface on it. It's fucking ugly.
