I once was given one of these things by an anonymous Chinese man as well. They better not feed it after midnight like I did.
Best Gremlins reference of the year.
Hope they can find or learn a lot about it before it dies. I'm surprised there would still be mammals in a country like china that have not been identified.
It's like half lemur, half mouse. Cute!
Pretty smart zoologists... I did some research and it turned out to be a "Common Spotted Cuscus"
If they made a mistake like that its because it comes from austrailia, china probably doesent care for their species.
At first I thought it was some sort of Albino Eye-Eye, but when they showed a side view it looks like a ferret/weasel species. Wait... Cuscus... eh whatever still has a ferret like face.
Looks like a lemur crossed with a squirrel.
Why is this being disagreed with, they look exactly the same.
Just what I was thinking, look at some other pictures, I am 99% sure they are the same animal.
they would have mentioned it being marsupial though
Maybe it's an undiscovered species of chinese cuscus
What's going on here?
third eye
A new cuddly creature!
Maybe it's an undiscovered species of chinese cuscus
' Maybe it looks so different because its still a juvenile, who knows.
I would much rather have this than a cat.
If it's not a civet cat, then maybe it's really is a cuscus
I have a theory on why nobody has seen it before: It leaves underground, like a Mole. In fact it does have some Mole characteristics, but they don't seem to be completely adapted, kinda looks like a Lemur that tried to adapt to living like a Mole. It's definitely a mammal though.
The Common Spotted Cuscus lives in Australia, how would it ever get to China? Oh yeah, the mystery man
What's going on here?
Balls of steel.
New or not, I hope that it doesn't bite if I try to pet it. Those eyes, they're so awesome.
What's going on here?
Its tail is tucked between its legs and pointing up but that's the cage behind it
How much do you wanna bet this is some sort of mutation? Remember this is coming out of the same country that recently reported two headed babies.
Just what I was thinking, look at some other pictures, I am 99% sure they are the same animal.
because youre obviously a certified zoologist
because youre obviously a certified zoologist
If you look at some more pictures, you will see that they are the same.

What? Okay, you idiots, here. Obviously you're too blind to see these obvious attributes. Googled cuscus to see more pictures of it. Got this awesome picture. This species was only discovered a few years ago according to the article, in Papua New Guinea.

[editline]e[/editline]
I'm pretty sure people are just being overly optimistic that there's a possibility that it might be a new species. I can see the resemblance and I'm almost sure it's a cuscus, but it seems odd that since they're located Australia and not China. Seems very odd to me.
Pretty soon rich Chinese people will start paying $1000 a plate to eat it, and they'll go extinct.
