Ghostbusters Reboot in Negotations with its Four Female Leads
I really don't see a problem with this. If they do a good job, great: we get a funny movie to watch in a couple of years. If they do a bad job, also fine. Just another movie to throw onto the ever-growing pile of shitty, ham-fisted remakes. It's not like we've never seen one of those before so why get all up-in-arms about it now? They're taking all the risks here and we're the ones who may or may not benefit. Let them reap what they sow.
The problem is that humans care about what other humans do, and as such will criticize when others make bad decisions.
I'm sure most of the "humor" on Melissa McCarthy's end will just be about her weight. She's like the female Zach Galifianakis, but even he's taking on more serious roles now.
I'm looking forward to not being able to complain about this to a certain circle of friends because "so you're sexist HUH?"
Just make your own IP. If it's a completely disconnected reboot, you might as well.
Why.
Who in Hollywood could possibly think this would sell well.
Awful. Just awful. As someone (most of us) who are big Ghostbuster fans this just the worst. You know its just going to be stupid fart jokes and Mcarthy making fat jokes against herself.
whenever i think hollywood can't fuck up anymore old franchises, they find a way
"Why all male cast though? Cant there be a mix?"
you think the backlash boils down to sexism?
I have a feeling in my gut that this is gonna be a Ghostbusters-themed chick flick.
Im fine with a female cast.
But this cast sucks.
the other 3 can be the funniest people alive and mcarthy still drags it down to the dredges
I wish they would use actual acting talent in a new original series if this is some sort of stand on women in the movie industry otherwise it looks like they using an already successful series to create controversy for more profit.
A Ghostbusters reboot, who genuinely thinks that's a good idea, regardless the gender of the cast.
you think the backlash boils down to sexism?
I've not once said that, it's just that it's utterly stupid to question why they're all women. It's a reboot, they can do whatever they want with it.
i can see the trailer now
"There are no ghosts! PERIOD!"
*dubstep or some shit cover of the ghostbusters theme song pauses*
THIS SUMMER....
"Why all male cast though? Cant there be a mix?"
Because Dan Aykroyd originally wrote the script with him an his SNL buddies.
This is going "What if we did it over but now all female just because we need to use this property again for reasons (money)."
Some details about the movie have been revealed by HitFix, but this is early stuff that could change at any time.
Not a terribly revealing tweet, but HitFix has the dirt. The site breaks down the new ghostbusting team:
- Erin Gabler is an academic on the tenure track at Columbia. Her former colleague and co-author is…
- Abby Bergman, who’s more on the pop parapsychology side of things, and pursues ghosts for a living.
- Jillian is Abby’s ghost hunting partner.
- Patty is an MTA employee who comes across the main ghost.
HitFix guesses that Wiig is Erin, Jones is Abby, McKinnon is Jillian, and McCarthy is Patty, but as of now we don’t know for sure. It’s important to note, however, that these aren’t just gender-flipped versions of the Ghostbusters from the 1984 film, but entirely new creations.
Other key characters include:
- The primary antagonist, a “creepy mechanical genius.” Peter Dinklage is wanted for this role.
- Martin Heiss, a professional debunker of the supernatural who goes after the Ghostbusters after seeing their videos online. He’s sort of the counterpart to William Atherton’s character from the original, and the guy Feig and his team want for the part is Bill Murray.
If Feig actually manages to get Murray, that’d be huge. Murray’s lack of interest in returning has been a sticking point for previous incarnations of the film. For what it’s worth, though, Murray seems into the all-female Ghostbusters idea. Moreover, while Murray may be done with Venkman, he’d be playing an entirely different character if he joined Feig’s reboot.
But that’s a big if. The site cautions that Ghostbusters is still in the early stages, meaning a lot could change between now and the (as yet unannounced) release date. Which might be a good thing, since they also comment on the “awkwardness” of Feig and Katie Dippold’s attempt to craft a new film on an old property.
Yeah but that's changed, it's a reboot now, so I don't see how character consistency matters
Male? Female? Without Bill Murray, it's still not Ghostbusters.
You know, I haven't seen a movie yet with Melissa McCarthy in it.
This movie doesn't make me want to change that.
Edit:
Holy shit FP doesn't like Melissa McCarthy lol
I just read all of the posts :v:
Aaaaand Rosie O'donnell as Slimer.
i don't care that it's all women, i care that the gimmick is that they're all women
they're very obviously selling it on the fact that the cast is all women, busting ghosts seems like it's taking the backseat
Sounds like some tumblrite shit fest to be honest.
Like the post above me said, the gimmick is that they're all women. Way better casting choices could of been made.
On a side note, Peter Dinklage could of made a cool ghost buster
This can't be happening, wake me up from this nightmare
Ugh, I hate McCarthy. Every one of her jokes has her doing a obnoxious laugh after it like it was the most hilarious thing ever. She's the Adam Sandler of female "comedians." Even then, Adam atleast had a high point in the 90's, McCarthy...nothing.
wait, if there's a jump scare on the main ghostbusters and one laughs, then that would be seen as sexist right?
Why not make it 2 men 2 women if you really want to bring in a new crowd?

what
This is probably going to be stupid. It'd be better if they made something new at the very least instead of milking a famed entity. Better to make new ideas and concepts inspired by the old, tried, and true ones.

It would have to be an obese pansexual hermaprodite black furry to stop political fallout nowadays

Where is the asian and the hispanic member of the team?
[editline]28th January 2015[/editline]
Can't wait for it to bomb at the boxoffice and the producers calling us all sexists because of an all female cast being the reason it bombed

Is this where SH is at right now.
Complaining about black people in movies.

I am not complaining about black people, I am complaining about the lack of hispanic people.
