Maybe only the teachers should have this. Since kids are dumb.
i did a report on this to my department as well as the local elementary, middle, and high school in my area. also this is ONLY for faculty. no student will ever have the ability to use this app to waste time or be a dick [editline]3rd September 2014[/editline]
So how is this going to improve response times? Unless they revise the department SOP's to say "hey go get the shooter" instead of "wait for swat", this is just a fancy 911 app. You'll get every cop in a 20mi radius to sit right outside the school.. and wait for swat..
plenty of local departments are being trained in dealing with school shootings from grouping as 3 and drills on how to enter a room to clear it.
Did you find that it would actually improve response times? Or that the improvement was incidental?
regarding the app or the training drills? for the app, it pretty much does have some impact on response time because instead of relaying the message from the dispatcher to radios, officers are directly buzzed in through their phones of the location. for the training drills it allows officers to go in without waiting for swat because they don't have the necessary training.

That would cut off probably at least a minute or two on the response time.
