Cool lets reinstate a ban that has been proven to do NOTHING.
Cause that will solve our problems right?
To source this, the Centers for Disease Control and the National Research Council both agree that it had a negligible impact on gun crime, both through lack of evidence and because the weapons banned were statistically rarely used in said crimes, and the National Institute of Justice has said that a re-institution of the Assault Weapons Ban would do little to affect gun violence, noting that rifles designated as possible assault weapons are rarely used in crimes

then, he took my private healthcare.
then, he took my guns.
now i am living in communism. obama's communist utopia.
send this on to 10 people before friday 10pm or you will wake up without a birth certificate
Fuck off, Obama.
The AWB did not work, it's proven to not have worked by three criminal study groups. Stop using the bodies of children to push your stupid fucking agenda.
This attitude I really take issue with. Regardless of whether you think weapons bans are the way to go, the people proposing them are just trying to save peoples' lives, and they think this is the best way to do it.
To say they're terrible people exploiting a tragedy to push their agenda is ridiculous
Also since there's been 8 years of gun proliferation since the last AWB how can this ban even be effective whatsoever?
These aren't uncommon guns, tons of people own them.
So punish gun enthusiasts who enjoy guns for collecting, target shooting, and hunting because of a few assholes misusing them?
That's like saying ban all knives because people stab each other with them.
Except knives have a worthy use to not ban them (cooking, etc)

appeal to emotion. I see past it and see that their plans are crap.
rip obamas presidency

The people proposing them are not paying attention to the statistics and facts, and are fucking banning them over polymer and tragedies which weren't even committed with a semi-automatic rifle.
Except knives have a worthy use to not ban them (cooking, etc)
Hah tell that to the UK with all their hilarious knife regulations/bans

Its not the best way to do it, assault rifles are less dangerous then pistols. You can hide a pistol in your coat pocket, you can't hide a assault rifle. This massacre would be NO different if he had stolen a pistol with a 17 round magazine.
That is why many places restrict pistols more than any other weapon.
Look at how much firearm crime California has, and they're notorious for their assault weapons policies.

Assault weapon bans do not work.
Hah tell that to the UK with all their hilarious knife regulations/bans
I live in the UK, you need to be 18 to buy knives, and some types of knives (i.e. stuff intended for hurting people and not cooking) are banned, and you're not supposed to carry knives on the street (which makes perfect sense if you ask me)
Just like last time right?

Yet another ineffective, feel-good piece of shit legislation. The people who author this have no idea how guns work.

You guys ban utilitarian knives because god forbid it folds out and is longer than 2 inches. Sorry not the society I'd want to live in with that type of attitude
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_High_School_massacre#Firearms
I don't see any assault weapons here except for the illegally modified shotgun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Tech_massacre
Same here, a 9mm and a .22.
Assault weapons bans are not going to shit to stop a school shooting.
I have several assault weapons that I have legally acquired and don't do anything with them except take them to the range.

Their good intentions are not an excuse for shoddy legislation.
Obesity is becoming an issues, lets make legislation that out-right bans all computer use to combat this issue. Their intentions are good right, so it is ok. Wrong you and everyone else would be up in arms and shitting yourselves.
Ban humans.
I doubt it's going to pass the republican controlled house. For once they'll stop something bad from passing.
This ban would basically be banning scary looking weapons and would most likely do nothing when it comes to stopping crime/massacres.
Hah tell that to the UK with all their hilarious knife regulations/bans
it's true, I had to apply for a license for a kitchen knife when I was 16.
all I wanted to do was make chilli con carne! this nanny state bullshit is ridiculous
You guys ban utilitarian knives because god forbid it folds out and is longer than 2 inches. Sorry not the society I'd want to live in with that type of attitude
i.e. any knife intended purely to hurt someone else and not for another practical use
Still makes perfect sense to me

Assault weapon bans do not work.
As a California resident. I can confirm this.
I could spend an hour, drive down the grade and buy a Machine pistol or a assault, brought across the border from Mexico, out of the trunk of someones car.
appeal to emotion. I see past it and see that their plans are crap.
Playing Devils Avocado (legal precedent set here) the gun advocacy groups in America appeal to emotion heavily.
It's an emotional topic so I don't mind people using that tact, I just wish they would do so intelligently. Not to say any of the people who want to institute another Assault Weapons Ban are dumb, just not really educated on firearms.
why are they going after assault weapons when the shooter didn't even use one
it's true, I had to apply for a license for a kitchen knife when I was 16.
That's complete bull, there's no such thing as a 'knife license' to own a knife, only to sell certain types
i.e. any knife intended purely to hurt someone else and not for another practical use
Still makes perfect sense to me

As a personal example, I'd be put in jail in the UK for having this.
Why.
why are they going after assault weapons when the shooter didn't even use one
See even when Sobotnik is asking questions like this you know it's silly
I hope to god they don't think banning assault weapons is going to stop school shootings. Handguns and shotguns are still in play. If they ban those there is plenty of other weapons one could use to cause harm.
why are they going after assault weapons when the shooter didn't even use one
The shooter didn't even acquire the gun legally. This will only affect law-abiding citizens, making them more prone to criminals who do have AWs.
Found an informative video at Reddit earlier that might add something to the discussion
