The holocaust and Second World War would have still happened, and would have been just as bloody.
Well the Jew example isn't exactly the greatest but there's tons of other examples of gun control involved with tyranny throughout the world.
And if I was a Jew I'd probably rather go down fighting/running than be willfully herded onto a train
This won't pass, and if it does. Oh boy.... I can't wait to hear the crack-pot allegations that come out in regards to it

My cousin plays football. All he's doing is throwing balls around. Does no one think of the injuries?
Ban sports so our children don't get concussions.
Obama why

While I still don't think this is a very bad idea, I think we need to think of a new system for this. There needs to be some kind of mental checkup every now and then. Also:

What?
This isn't already a thing?!
Just how fucking easy is it to get a gun there?
My two cents: If we have to go with gun restrictions:
heavily restrict pistols because 95% of firearm crimes involve handguns.
Ban automatic weapons period, no ifs, ands, or butts like we have now
Ban the AR-15, and include a very detailed description of what an AR-15 is so gun manufacturers can't just make a slightly different version and keep selling. Why AR-15? because its the easiest 'assault weapon' to acquire, and is very easy to rapid-fire, as the psycho in Conn. proved
Put a lot of money into rebuilding the mental health industry.
Contrary to belief, an recent investigation has proven that Adam Lanza did not use an AR-15 in his shootings. He used four handguns, all of which he stole from his mother.

Such as?
Yemen, Iraq and Saudi Arabia have high rates of gun ownership, but aren't well known for being bastions of democracy.
I normally never reply to threads like these, very debatable objects here.
But I'd like to politely inform you that there are many recreational purposes for these weapons, that include not harming any thing at all. Many people are also firearm enthusiasts, they enjoy firearms in general, also not shooting up people shit.
Owning a "assault weapon" does not mean your going to shoot someone, and that is not their only purpose.
Yeah... I'm starting to see why this is a difficult subject after watching the video above. I edited my post though, because I realize I wasn't being entirely correct.
Contrary to belief, an recent investigation has proven that Adam Lanza did not use an AR-15 in his shootings. He used four handguns, all of which he stole from his mother.
Further evidence proving that ARs are just a scape-goat to tackle the problem without any real meaningful effort (i.e. address the lack of mental health care that enables crazed individuals to attack)
That's really vague.

so retards can kill more people with less bullets?
Gun Education is more than just "hurdur, I kill people gud."
More gun owners need to go through classes about properly storing their weapons. I constantly read about people going into their fathers end tables/desk. And getting their handgun out and hurting someone, or themselves.
We need more understanding about it, not restrictions.

It depends on the state. But most of them are a background check and a week or two waiting peroid.

Horrid example.
Your talking about a completely different culture in an area notorious for violence and instability.
Just a quick question[because I don't know this myself] why wasn't any alarms raised when is 4473 was turned down?
He tried purchasing firearms/ammo, and surely that should be more then enough to raise an eyebrow with the local police department.
What?

Varies from state to state. Suffice to say, quite easy in some places.
Contrary to belief, an recent investigation has proven that Adam Lanza did not use an AR-15 in his shootings. He used four handguns, all of which he stole from his mother.
well then what about the reports that say he was using it?
You know what, fuck this. Until I can get a straight story I am not commenting on the subject. Goodbye
If this passes Canada would essentially have better gun law than the US.

Different from state to state. In Texas you can buy a gun and walk out with it. In my state of Massachusetts, I have to be 21, get a license, get permission from my local police department, and take a class.
omg this must be republican lies!!1!!!!!!
gret obumo would never do that!!!1!

The 4473 is a notoriously atrocious piece of paperwork for anyone without any former experience to fill out, if his got turned down in the state of Connecticut, it wouldn't be that unusual.
imo
we don't need restrictions but proper information.
isn't it alarming that in the near VERY close future we might not be allowed to own any weapons at all.
makes it easier for criminals to target unarmed civilians

Oh god this is a funny joke, Look at all the registration and insurance and inspections cars require, yet they still kill three times more people than guns do per year. If you think that stuff is going to affect gun crime then you truly are a fool in the most literal sense of the word.
If you really want to do something about deaths of children and other people ban cigarettes. 50,000 deaths per year due to SECOND HAND smoke. Most of the people who are affected by second hand smoke are the children of the smokers.

Because the media is notorious for providing accurate coverage on guns and gun-related incidents, right? They even omitted the fact that the Portland mall shooter was confronted by a CCW holder

so people don't have to google it. Video in the link.
How will this change anything? The Sandy Hook shooter had attempted to acquire a weapon legally and was rejected, so he stole the guns.
America should just become a full time police state. A cop on every street corner, a swat officer in every school, or work place. Cameras outside everyone's homes, and inside everyone's work place. CCTV centers monitoring with constant 24/7 staff. Increase the officer's pay grade and dump infinite money into law enforcement. We need convictions, prisons, and monthly mental health screenings.

Interesting. Thank you
However, we still have a gun crime rate much higher than most of the first world, unless someone can provide info stating otherwise
"My weekend hobby is more important than people's lives"
Nice work putting words in my mouth.
Even if my, "Weekend hobby" was banned, it wouldn't stop people from obtaining guns or using another weapon to kill each other.
Hell, the shooter in Sandy Hook was denied a gun. Didn't stop him from stealing one and killing people.
This is incredibly useless, more restrictive gun law doesn't equal less crime. In fact, its the opposite since criminals usually get their guns illegally anyway.

obama
i thought you were smarter then this
learn from past mistakes, people will just find a way around it.
I think the problem with the USA is that banning gun sales doesn't help much because everyone and their mum already owns one. Gun control is very strict in Belgium (retardedly so) but mass shootings are very rare.
That's the basic problem with banning anything really. Someone, somewhere out there is making it. If someone here wants it, guess what? The producer is going to supply it to the buyer for a price. Making it illegal does nothing but affect the cost of the product. Case in point, drugs.
I can't speak for people in other countries, but I can tell you that many people I know here WANT guns. They like guns, like having guns, like shooting guns, like talking about guns. If those guns were made illegal, that desire would not go away.
People might say "Well, they'd get arrested when caught". HAHA!
We don't have the prison space now for today's criminals. Here in California the sheriff of LA county has to periodically release what are deemed less dangerous criminals to make room for the new ones coming in. It's insane to propose flooding the courts and jails with a new wave of criminals. You can't tell that to the gun control people though.
I hate the phrase "assault weapon", I know its defined and referring to a certain thing but anything could be an "assault weapon". If you whacked someone over the head with a table leg, that's an assault weapon.
