It depends on the state. But most of them are a background check and a week or two waiting peroid.
So, if I went to live in the US, and tried to get a gun, I'd have it in a week?
(clean record)
That's even more retarded than the retards who shoot up schools holy fuck...
How is this dumb?
So, selling guns to possibly demented citizens without background checks or proper training and inspection isn't dumb???
obama
i thought you were smarter then this
learn from past mistakes, people will just find a way around it.
party appeasement
Horrid example.
Your talking about a completely different culture in an area notorious for violence and instability.
Except it proves an exception to the rule that "well armed populations can easily remove tyranny".
Like, Tunisia managed to boot out their ruler despite having one of the lowest rates of gun ownership on the planet.
Interesting. Thank you
However, we still have a gun crime rate much higher than most of the first world, unless someone can provide info stating otherwise
Dude. Look at the big picture. Most first world countries have populations between 10 and 80 million people.
We have 320 million people here.
Different from state to state. In Texas you can buy a gun and walk out with it. In my state of Massachusetts, I have to be 21, get a license, get permission from my local police department, and take a class.
Pretty much this. Getting a pistol legally in Mass takes some time. Subsequent pistols after you get your licence take less time to get, but you always need to have your licence, and it is checked against the database whenever you go to purchase a weapon.

Some states you wait 20 minutes.
I don't see how its so retarded in your eyes though

They didn't boot shit. The guy stepped down.
Sure. His palace was under siege, but it's not like it was the citizens who were placing siege. It was his own damn army.

I mean as in crimes per 100k people, not crimes overall.
I hate the phrase "assault weapon", I know its defined and referring to a certain thing but anything could be an "assault weapon". If you whacked someone over the head with a table leg, that's an assault weapon.
Not unless that table leg has a collapsible stock and foregrip!

Murder's illegal, what more can you ask for? We can't stop those few random people that choose to do this stuff every once in a while even with Big Brother-esque surveillance.
The chance of it making through congress are extremely slim, and the chance of people taking it seriously are smaller.
I mean as in crimes per 100k people, not crimes overall.
And the world and culture are very different here. We haven't seen the effects of war first hand for 150 years, Europe had two major and extremely toiling wars on their soil, and it seems that they do every generation.
Unless a person is a psychopath, exposure to violence and experiencing the viewpoint from over there leads to different opinions on weapons and war. Americans as a whole, are quite more jingoistic than any western european country.
Well a semi automatic rifle is not an assault weapon. Define assault weapon?
Enjoy wasting time and effort on legislation that will never pass, and here I thought he'd end up having a productive second term.
LOL @ The misleading title. The article clearly states that he BACKS a ban, not that he IS going to. It has to get through congress first and such. Fantastic sensationalism.
Well a semi automatic rifle is not an assault weapon. Define assault weapon?
By the AWB:
This is retarded.
We don't need weapon bans. We need weapon education.
Yeah because if Adam Lanza was taught how to properly handle a gun who knows how many kids he could have killed!
Oh god this is a funny joke, Look at all the registration and insurance and inspections cars require, yet they still kill three times more people than guns do per year. If you think that stuff is going to affect gun crime then you truly are a fool in the most literal sense of the word.
Car fatalities are usually accidents. No one is going to accidentally conduct a mass killing.
"Yeah we care about regulation just like you!"
Clearly they don't care about regulation at all. Is this supposed to please everyone?
Ban things that can be used as weapons
Ban you from facepunch because you make bad posts.

Wait. Seriously. A barrel shroud? It's literally a circular piece on the end of the barrel that has no purpose other than to prevent contact with the barrel :v:
This attitude I really take issue with. Regardless of whether you think weapons bans are the way to go, the people proposing them are just trying to save peoples' lives, and they think this is the best way to do it.
To say they're terrible people exploiting a tragedy to push their agenda is ridiculous
I would agree with this sentiment if the legislation wasn't universally fucking retarded. It's completely meaningless legislation. It wont accomplish anything beyond making things more complicated and idiotic.

Isnt it great when politicians vote on stuff that they have absolutely NO understanding of?
even better is when they get called on it and they get all confused
Stop production of bullets, reward people handsomely for turning in bullets, eventually guns become harmless.
