I think you're not giving the crazies enough credit. They usually illegally obtain the weapons from other people, not legally buy it.
And B. They spend months planning this shit, why would they fuck it all up by acting like the Joker in a gun store?
The ones who do acquire a gun through a gun store should be properly screened and trained instead of "oh hey tell us your name, give us the cash and wait 20 mins - 2 weeks"
Everyone should in fact. How is this not common sense?
If you need a bunch of tests to drive a car, which is a big responsability and a possibly dangerous thing to have in your hands, why would you not need a bunch of tests and proper registration, training and inspection for the possession of something that has almost the sole purpose of killing someone?
That's how capitalism works.
I don't know how a logical person could argue against some kind of process in regards to acquiring something so lethal.
Automatic guns aren't even good for massacres unless they're belt fed.
Aim would be fucked up from the recoil, and ammo would be wasted far quicker and with more damage done to the property, than to the people he is aiming for.
Contrary to popular belief, full auto is very rare, even in military firearms these days, for that exact reason. It does nothing but make noise and put lead in the air.

But, surprisingly enough, most people buy what you deem "assault weapons" for collections, or this amazing idea called target shooting. It's a simple hobby that millions love.
How long does it take someone to unload two thirty round magazines into a crowd vs how long does it take a driver going 60 to drive into same said crowd. Answer: Driver kills tons instantly, shooting takes time and aim.
Were talking about a crowd here, so I'm going to debate semantics. Judging from the amount of people, the force would be distributed different and along several people, so there would be less chances of it being fatal. Also keeping in mind the fact that people have legs and can get away from a car easier, and the fact that you just can't do that much if people are piled up.
Compared to a man with a semi automatic rifle, he can just adjust his aim and no one would stand in his way unless they were armed, or the cops arrived.
Hell, aiming doesn't even take that long. You don't need to worry about aim when you're trying to cause as much destruction as possible.

why do you need a computer

Having a bayonet for hunting is actually kinda useful if you're going up against boar. If you don't manage to down it and it's heading right for you, having something to stop it and put it down before it gores you is kinda helpful.
As long as "Assault Weapon" is strictly defined, I really dont have a problem with this. Although im more in support of blocking the purchasing of high-capacity clips (or magazines), along with the buying of bulk ammunition

as opposed to banning them all. *
Unfortunately, assault weapons usually describe firearms that look scary. Hell, the last one restricted shooting aids like pistol grips and telescoping stocks, which both apparently help someone kill a guy.
Even a fucking barrel shroud was prohibited. A fucking barrel shroud! The thing that protects your hands from getting burnt by the barrel! Because that obviously kills babies.
There's two common ways a government goes for gun control, and one of them is the restriction of weapons in increasingly arbitrary ways, which is way fucked up. Magazine capacity I can understand, (Although I don't support it) but some of this shit is ridiculous.
name 1 reason to have an assault weapon
Incredibly fun for target shooting, extremely practical for both sports shooting and hunting.
What are you supposed to do with your "assault weapon" if and when they're banned? Turn it in? I'm not doing that with mine. I doubt Obama's ever even held a damn "assault weapon". How is a pistol grip going to help me kill more people?
Incredibly fun for target shooting, extremely practical for both sports shooting and hunting.
There's always laser tag if you want to run around with guns.
Well I don't live in the USA but I can see that it's not going to work. It's the same as with all the "you can't have a knife thats x cm long" shit.
Yes, your everyday normal people will obey this law, but bandits/psychos don't give a shit about it so in the end it will be another law that's making everybody's life harder but the bad guy's.
Switchblades are illegal in Colorado and a few months ago I was able to buy one for $15 cash no problem. (And I did, for whatever it's worth.) I just use it for opening boxes and stuff though.
There's always laser tag if you want to run around with guns.
Nice job missing the point.
Why do people have hard ons for owning guns?
under the assault weapons ban you couldn't buy an M16 that was used to kill yellow people.
but you could buy an m1 garand which fired a large cartridge that used to kill people
There's always laser tag if you want to run around with guns.
Airsoft is a much more direct "descendant" and I personally love Airsoft since it lets me indulge my like for guns without having anything truly lethal. And I can shoot at people!
Why do people have hard ons for owning guns?
Why do some people have hard ons for taking them away?
I can see this isn't going to work on the same principle that people are using the "car and knives kill people, ban them" argument, and if enough of you think that is true, you haven't got a chance in the world.
The main purpose of a gun is to kill, it's not a tool, it's not a mode of transportation, it's a weapon. People who say they use it in self defense will use it to kill. If you want to scare someone out of your house, use a replica or a model, I wouldn't exactly take my chances if a gentleman started waving something that looks pretty much like a pistol around and I'm sure no one else on this forum would either.
I get that you're pissed about this, but don't be stupid and say it's like banning anything else because it's not. It's a weapon and it will always be a weapon.
Why do people have hard ons for owning guns?
Small penis disorder.
someone needs to ask a german WW2 vet if they think the M1 was an assault weapon

A car is a complicated machine to use and requires skill to use it. A gun doesn't need one, and if you'd even care to think about it. The amount of people who die by firearms is a puddle compared to any other form of death that had regulation on it. People die from obesity and health related illnesses brought on by over consumption, should we ration out food? Cars are prone to accidents, should we limit their maximum speed to the point where the momentum is so low that head to head impacts are merely light shellshocks? The way I see it, sure. Having some form of class to take on gun handling and safety aspects of it should be needed. A mandatory, one time lesson and a mark on a record would seal it.
If a person want's to kill people, they can and will. Did you know that you can buy poison? You could just crush it up and mix it in with a drink. There's infinite ways to die and frankly, we already have safety measures in place for most of them. Some shit gets through, but what can you do for that? Shit happens and unless you have a lobotomized population, incidents will always happen.
I'll support a ban on "assault weapons" regardless of your definition, if sports cars are banned as well.
Oh, and a gun that wouldn't fall under the assault weapons ban is the Mosin Nagant M-28/30.
The same gun Simo Hayha used to kill 500 Soviets.

Ha, says the one who wants to run around with a gun pretending to be a marine.
