Sounds really inconvenient, especially if any other developer takes a similar route.
It won't stop me from buying BF3, it's not that big a deal, but EA has a history of terrible online distribution and making it exclusive to their distribution platform is really sleazy.
[editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
But then again, does anyone expect EA to not be a bunch of dicks?
How is Digital better then retail. Its the same thing.
Never going to be outdated and hard to get installed (well except for compatibility issues with the game itself) as it can always be updated to whatever new format we may end up with.
Will be available as long as the service is up, it's easier to ruin a CD.
Get it in an instant, the only thing that limits you is the download speed. No running around finding your old CD.
(Depending on the service) it's impossible to lose the CD key. (My friend bought WCIII and the expansion 3 times because he lost his key all the time :v:)
How to argue the Kondor way:
Take a quote such as this:
and over simplify it to something like this:
"I'm not going to support the industry because I won't stand to click more than 3 times to download games. "
Now, take that and morph it into some incomprehensible hyperbole.
Like this:
"Oh no, I need to click more than 3 times to download something. EA sucks."
And dispense argument as such:
Oh no, I need to click more than 3 times to download something. EA sucks.
Tah Dah!
How to argue your way:
Take a really small and simple inconvenience and blow it way out of proportion and then say you're not going to buy a game because you need all your wasted clicking energy to eat cheetos and drink pepsi
Looks like I won't be buying Crysis 2 then

You can't get Valve games on any other digital distribution but Steam.
So big whoop of an argument there.
Uh guys. I don't see the point. You're all acting exactly as how people acting how steam came out. At least EA is covering EADM's tracks and trying to start over. I'd at least give it a trial and see how it turns out before being all like "waaah I don't want to download extra crap to play games" even though you already did it with steam and you aren't even bothering.
I'm still getting Battlefield 3. Why? Because Origin isn't going to change my gameplay experience at all. Their servers are crap, but we've had to use them since Battlefield 1942.
That argument might work if we didn't already have a service where we could keep all of our games on one account. We already have Steam and it dominates the market, EA is retarded thinking this will work.
Crysis 2 is a shitfest anyway.
I really doubt they are going to make it Origin exclusive

Perhaps we don't want to have even more software running on our PCs
Perhaps we don't want to have even more software running on our PCs
then delete it after you download it
Looks like I won't be buying Crysis 2 then
why not
Perhaps we don't want to have even more software running on our PCs
Yeah a program that links your online account and your computer must be really bloated
then delete it after you download it
This is silly. Why do I have to have it at all? Seriously this service isn't filling any gaps in the market, it's just wasting my time.
Can anybody confirm that you will even need Origin running with newer games? I had a chance to test it out because I had my BC2 steam key registered on the EA store as well, and once it was installed, it acted like it was completely independent from Origin.
ITT monopoly supporters.
It's bad for the industry even if valve isn't taking advantage of it.
Digital distribution is literally the only market where a monopoly is good.

boo hoo
We ALL know this will crash and burn eventually, because Steam will always beat out the competition because Valve already has so much money they can make crazy-ass sales and STILL make millions. When Origin DOES crash and burn, they'll be forced to move their shit back onto Steam, and everyone will sperg about how it should have been on steam in the first place. Just buy the damn games on retail. You get you games AND you get to deny Origin any profits. Win-Fucking-Win.
As for Crysis 2, they still better be at least supporting the Steam version, because Steam installs games differently. They have those content.paks in the steamapps folders that contain shit not in the steamapps/common folders the games are installed into. I don't know if that'll affect a game's ability to be patched the usual, "run the .exe" way, but it might. Still, just cutting off all support for the people who bought it on steam is a really dick move.
It doesn't really effect me in any way since Steam is overpriced as fuck anyway.
boo hoo
I'm out, this clearly isn't a discussion any more.

you talk about origin as if it's its own company
you talk about origin as if it's its own company
You know what I'm fucking talking about. You're still denying EA profits from it's Origin system if you buy retail. There. Is that better, smartass?
Why would Crytek allow this to happen? I thought they were mainly PC game developers, it would be stupid to turn away from where most pc gamers are (Steam).
It doesn't really effect me in any way since Steam is overpriced as fuck anyway.
You do know valve/steam doesn't set the prices for the games that are put up there, right? Those prices are the fault of the developers or publishers.

What the fuck are you talking about.
I would never let my Neckbearded ass drink pepsi.
It's all about the Mountain Dew dawg.
i dont care so long as i dont have to use "origin"
so long as i can just buy the game and play it, im ok
Hm, maybe Lulzsec will step in and actually do something fucking useful instead of hacking Bethesda like a bunch of cunts.
I think Origin will flop. They're trying to get themselves into a position where the only way to buy the game online is Origin. I will buy it retail, even though I never buy PC games retail. I simply don't want to jump through EA's hurdles. Steam is already established, it has millions of users, automatic updating, steamworks API, and your games are always there no matter what. Who knows what EA will pull with Origin. Maybe the previously mentioned 'game expiration' from EADM. I like the idea of being able to download the game onto your hard drive and not have Origin running to use it, but I'd rather have all of my games from one place, Steam.
You know what I'm fucking talking about. You're still denying EA profits from it's Origin system if you buy retail. There. Is that better, smartass?
you're still buying the game regardless
guess who will profit

Usually the publisher receives a bloated amount of profit from sales revenue. But at least when you buy retail, you're still giving a bit more to the developers, rather than paying for it on the PUBLISHER RAN distribution system.

um
are you really...
you do realize that ea publishes the physical copy as well, right???

It's not about who's profiting, but where they're profiting from. Anyone at EA with common sense should be thinking "Wow, if they're so against our Digital Distribution system that they'd rather buy their games retail than digitally, when we're trying to get MORE sales through DD, something has gone wrong".
