• EA Pulls Crysis 2 From Steam Store

Someone on the Battlefield 3 forum pointed out that it might just be that Steam ran out of keys (which happened before with another title if I remember) and temporarily pulled the game from the store. I don't think we should judge until we get a more clear indication.
um are you really... you do realize that ea publishes the physical copy as well, right???
Yep, but they can still pull off tremendous feats of douchebaggory by forcing someone (citation Needed?) to distribute something on their own service. Which thus gives them more percentage of profit than a physical copy would. Think of it this way: If I buy a Yellow Belly John the Pirates Box of Fish Sticks at the grocery store, both parties receive a some what fair split of the revenue. Where as, if I buy from the Yellow Belly John the Pirates Parent Companies official store, not only am I paying the parent company more than I would the actual maker, but the Parent company also taxes the maker (Yellow Belly John the Pirate) for allowing them to use their store. Or, at least that's how I see it.
Yeah a program that links your online account and your computer must be really bloated
Like GFWL which is so streamlined and totally didn't make Fallout 3 unplayable for me until I manually removed it
Oh no then it will be exactly like steam what a horrible fate
Let's have a steam clone for every distributor then. That's gonna be fun. Especially if instead of buying games you rent them for "at least 2 years". Or some other bullshit like that.
How to argue your way: Take a really small and simple inconvenience and blow it way out of proportion and then say you're not going to buy a game because you need all your wasted clicking energy to eat cheetos and drink pepsi
How to argue your way: Don't give a fuck about publishers adding unnecessary inconveniences to games, and when people complain about it, call them whiny bitches and make an incredibly witty comments on how will they will waste their energy which they could use to eat cheetos, while going through the inconveniences that shouldn't even be there.
Good job you know nothing about anything, retailers buy copies of games in bulk from publishers, the developers get less-screwed in profit if they use digital distribution or self-publish because there's no douchebags (publishers) taking a huge chunk of all profits.
What I'm trying to say is this: Yes, buying via Digital Distribution saves the developers a buttload when it comes to publishers taking profits from them. But, when the only method of obtaining the game through DD is the publishers system, there's very little a chance that you're actually helping the developer.
http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/3970/ wow that might be right I would think that they would buy more keys, but apparently not.
Well someone at EA / Crytek just has to get of his arse and send the keys to Valve. For all we know it's just a lost memo.
Hmm, reminds me of GTA IV where the pirated version ran better than the legit version that forced you to run all that games for windows crap in the background. While I'm sure EA will make money from Origin, many people who would have bought the game may pirate it to avoide installing origin. This does nothing for the commuinty. It really can't be interpted as anything but selfish and greedy on EA's part.

Very bizarre, but it could be for a variety of reasons. As for EA download services... eat a giant ****. I swear to god, for everything good EA does for some reason they shoot themselves in the foot and take a step backwards. Hopefully the services associated with BF3 are their saving grace, but I ain't holding my breath. For me it's quite simple. I'll purchase a game wherever it is cheapest, but I prefer Steam and have at times spent more money for the sake of convenience and quality of service. If they force my hand, they'll find my money can be spent elsewhere.
It's not about who's profiting, but where they're profiting from. Anyone at EA with common sense should be thinking "Wow, if they're so against our Digital Distribution system that they'd rather buy their games retail than digitally, when we're trying to get MORE sales through DD, something has gone wrong".
um if they had common sense they would simply be thinking "wow another copy sold, keep up the good work everyone" [editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
Very bizarre, but it could be for a variety of reasons. They're killing/wounding BF3 PC sales if BF3 is going to be exclusively on origins.
I seriously can't believe that the gaming community is this dumb. Remember the days before steam? When you had to find game exe's on your hard drive or have shortcuts plastered on your desktop? Oh wait everyone here is 12 so the answer is no. Using Origin is not a big deal, fucking get over it. Or buy a retail copy.
Is it just me, or does everyone on the internet seem to love calling people 12 because it makes them feel bigger even though they are probably 14.

This thread has turned into a constant bitch fest.
so because of an online store that is optional if you buy the game retail, you're not going to buy a game?
Have to realize a majority of users prefer something they're familiar with, IE Steam, since its been around for so long and has delivered. When they're forced to choose one service for neat stuff and all that junk, IE Origin, over the other, conflicted views crop up and it becomes a pile of fuck. Personally, I'll just wait for the standard edition on Steam. No matter how long it takes since its still the same game. EA is trying their luck with this little service. Only time can tell if it'll succeed.
Just so you guys know, I have a few emails in to EA to try and get a response back about why it was pulled, be it for lack of CD keys or for another reason entirely. If I hear anything back definitive then I'll update the news.
um if they had common sense they would simply be thinking "wow another copy sold, keep up the good work everyone" [editline]14th June 2011[/editline] so because of an online store that is optional if you buy the game retail, you're not going to buy a game?
Until they took a look at where the hell the sales are coming from. What, do you think that their sales charts are just a big "number of copies sold" sign? No, they have different charts for this stuff. They monitor different trends and stuff like that, see what trend is getting them the most money. Currently on the PC Digital Distribution is their biggest trend and biggest source of money, but if they suddenly see a drop in DD sales and/or a raise in Retail sales right after they launch Origin, they'll drop Origin because no company in their right mind would support anything that fucks up like that. The best solution EA would have would be to have their games on both Steam and Origin, but having prices on Origin be lower than the prices on Steam (like, say, have steam copies cost 60 dollars but origin copies 50) so as to promote competition and make it so that whether more players are drawn to Origin or not, EA is still making more money.
can't wait when they try to pull battlefield 3 and gabe steps in and valve wins the court case due to a technicality, allowing it to stay up.
Guess I'll be buying it retail now. Between Steam and D2D I don't want any more digital distributors.
can't wait when they try to pull battlefield 3 and gabe steps in and valve wins the court case due to a technicality, allowing it to stay up.
This kind of shit doesn't go to court and valve have to accept what the publisher requests. GJ not knowing anything about publishers.
Pretty much confirms that Battlefield 3 will not be on Steam.
They haven't officially confirmed it so no, not really. Just means theres a really fucking good chance which means they will potentially lose people.
http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/3970/ wow that might be right I would think that they would buy more keys, but apparently not.
Can't be there wasn't a huge demand for the game recently.
If anything, they'll just keep all the neato stuff on Origin, and give Steam the standard edition, IE just the game itself with no perks. Don't bother me, though I'd like the pre-order trinkets, I don't need 'em.
I'm not going to buy Mass Effect 3 if it's exclusive to Origins. I'll probably still be playing it though
Don't care im still buying battlefield 3
Looks like I'll need to cancel my Crysis 2 buying plan. [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] And BF3.
I'm not going to buy Mass Effect 3 if it's exclusive to Origins. I'll probably still be playing it though
I thought it was exclusive. Wasn't that already confirmed?
They haven't officially confirmed it so no, not really. Just means theres a really fucking good chance which means they will potentially lose people.
I mean... most of us will agree that the EA guys are pretty dumb and they're doing no good with their Origin service, but do you think they're dumb enough to let the horde of Steam users buying BF3 go?
