I get that they're trying to establish themselves on the PC by trying to challenge Steam, but it's not wise to suddenly pull games out games that were already on Steam just so they can make them exclusive for Origin.
You can't get Valve games on any other digital distribution but Steam. So big whoop of an argument there.
I wouldn't mind Valve games being on other digital distribution platforms. And that still doesn't change the fact that it's really inconvenient.
I mean... most of us will agree that the EA guys are pretty dumb and they're doing no good with their Origin service, but do you think they're dumb enough to let the horde of Steam users buying BF3 go?
Do you think it wouldn't be the best market move to force people to move to Origin to buy BF3? EA's Origin is gonna succeed by holding hostages such as ME3, BF3, etc because people will be forced to move to Origin to buy those games. Look at how well L4D2 and MW2 boycotts went, people will give up and move to Origin to buy these games. And none of us know yet that buying retail will avoid Origin all together. EA could require it installed just like Valve does with their games.
Well, was hoping that Alice and BF3 would be coming to Steam, but I see that is impossible now. Still going to get those games though, in retail, so I hopefully won't have to put up with that Origin stuff.
im still buying battlefield 3, dont give a shit
Here you go guys: http://www.ea.com/crysis-2/pc-download Note what it says on the download page: "Buy Now - Only on Origin" Whelp...
How do we actually know Origins will be shit?
How do we actually know Origins will be shit?
EADM failed hard. I find it hard to believe they've fixed it.
This thread has turned into a constant bitch fest.
I don't know what else you expected. Don't get in the way of a Facepuncher and their Steam. I for one don't give a flying shit if BF3 isn't on Steam, because I'm not lazy and have more than 10 extra seconds to open up "Origins" and play the damn game.
EADM failed hard. I find it hard to believe they've fixed it.
How the hell did it fail hard? Beyond being what you prisses call, "another application that needs to be opened" You guys are jumping to conclusions on something, YOU'VE never fucking used.
I thought it was exclusive. Wasn't that already confirmed?
It is. http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/html/pbPage.me3_US?easid=Origin-MassEffect3_Web_Right_PreOrder
Will the retail versions require/use Origin to run?
I wouldn't mind Valve games being on other digital distribution platforms. And that still doesn't change the fact that it's really inconvenient.
Indeed.... Wait, doesn't steam not convert US dollars to any other form of currency? By the way, I had to upgrade from EADM to Origin to keep playing the Sims 3, surfing through, a lot of their stuff is on sale right now.
Will the retail versions require/use Origin to run?
http://www.battlefield.com/uk/battlefield3/buy It was going happen since Mass Effect 3 is going Origin-Only. Oh and if someone brings up "WELL IT'S ON DIRECT2DRIVE" I'm sure they WILL make you install Origin and put in the key to even play it.
damnit, I didn't expect the large black thing on the origin page to be the download.. :v: [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] could as well check it out right away. [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] hurah, no personal avatars the orange button says "choose avatar" [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] It's like steam, but then for EA only, and somewhat crappier.
I found it really pathetic how they just slapped the Origin logo at the end of every trailer in E3, made them look so miserable, I had stupidity chills after the 3rd one.
hahahaha They just lost a sale
I dont care if BF3 doesnt come on steam, games I really like I buy from the store so I can have the boxed edition.
Silly EA, this is not how you make users use origin. You're supposed to provide cheaper pricing and a good service, not pull your games from steam.
It deleted my bad company 2 key from their database, had to go talk to live support for two hours to get a new one
Anecdotal, is this a documented issues that has happened all the time.
I'll be fucking pissed if I can't buy Mass Effect 3 on Steam. I bought ME1 on Steam and I also bought ME2 on Steam.
What i don't understand is why can't it be on both................surely they'd make more money that way anyway? and not piss off as many customers......i guess EA is really that stupid.
I'll be fucking pissed if I can't buy Mass Effect 3 on Steam. I bought ME1 on Steam and I also bought ME2 on Steam.
Your saves are in the mydocuments section of your computer, you should be fine. It is Origin only too.

I want the retail version to just install on its own, not cram an additional program to play my game down my throat. I hate how newer retail games always shove Steam down my throat, if Origin does it too then I'll be disappointed.
That's what Half Life 2 and the Orange Box did :v:
yeah, but I kinda expect that from Valve games but when I get New Vegas and see that it requires Steam, eh I just want to install my game and play it. And it'd be nice if I could lend my copy to my Dad so he can play it on his computer, he loves Fallout.

And most people didn't expect that when they first got Half Life 2.
GameDevs should stop using EA to publish their games. Crappy DRM and copy-protection and now this useless client. All that bullcrap like Origin or Games for Windows Live have no chance to survive against steam. Steam is more or less lightweight and offers thousands of games. Not only "EA" titles only. Also it offers a lot of customizability like SteamWorks, good and transparent copy protection like CEG and an AntiCheat ouf of the box (VAC). And the game-account is portable between different PCs. Furthermore it's very well protected (Authentication account and SteamGuard). Also when do those people finally learn that having 10 different programs on a computer which do the same is useless?
So are they stupid or do they think this will get them more money? I WANT SOPME ANSWERS!
