Uh They do, don't forget EA sells everything.
Origin only sells EA games.
Uh They do, don't forget EA sells everything.
Umm no
Retail
None of my Valve games have an EA logo on, not The Orange Box, not Portal 2, not Left 4 Dead.
Are they ps3?
No everything but Portal 2 is PC with Portal being 360.
How are they meant to compete with a rival service when that rival service sells their product oh enlightened one? Pulling Crysis 2 allows them to sell the game for themselves, if they want people to buy it, they have to start offering it at a decent price to draw people away from other games valve might have on sale right now. Having it up on both services might gain more sales, but they lose a chunk of that in royalties to Valve.
Putting slightly more value behind the service than just the weight of the games library, since switching libraries wholesale isn't evidently enough to make magic happen - again, being petty, not actually focusing on what needs to happen to actually compete with Steam. All this is doing is generating acrimony.

If anyone wanted to get their games cheap, neither Origin nor Steam would be an option. [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] And I'm not meaning pirating

Maybe we should ALL move on to Origin, ditch Steam and Valve altogether. Then Valve would panic, which would force them to invest their hat/Steam service/etc money into creating Half-life and the likes so good they get all their fans back! How's that for a plan to fuck with the gaming industry, huh? huh? :smug:

Yeah well
I can't wait for BF3 guys, I'll have no choice but to buy it from Origin for about 65 US dollars, good thing the service and support are amazing! And if anything goes wrong, i can buy it retail on my lovely country that is controlled by EA, and retail has the same awesome price! Man i love EA so much! they're a really great company, i remember when i contacted them about something silly with BC2 and they totally told me to fuck off! I mean... no other company does that right ? Really helpful and caring, it's companies like these that i like to throw my money at. Anyways... while typing this i realized that D2D has a decent deal on BF3, hopefully i can find another service that doesn't suck and has decent support by then.
I guess this won't affect me too much personally since I was going to buy Battlefield 3 on PS3 since my computer isn't too good, but best wishes to all of you that were getting BF3 on PC.
Battlefield 3 will be a lot less successful if it's only on Origin.
Battlefield 3 will be a lot less successful if it's only on Origin.
Nah, it will earn it back on consoles
If Origin can offer: Good sales, low prices, high quality servers and no intrusive DRM... Then I'd still tell them to fuck off, because that won't happen.
Battlefield 3 will be a lot less successful if it's only on Origin.
Something tells me that despite it looking really great and fine-tuned, people are gonna lose interest faster than ever because whole video game industry is growing fast and more money is getting pumped in
Nah, it will earn it back on consoles
It's going to hurt Dice's support for the PCs. They'll expect to make a lot of money through Origin just because Battlefield 3 is on it, but they seem to ignore the fact that a large number of the PC community supports Steam, and nothing else.
If Origin can offer: Good sales, low prices, high quality servers and no intrusive DRM... Then I'd still tell them to fuck off, because that won't happen.
Origin isn't even a DRM itself. It is literally just a distribution platform. It is then up to each game to handle the DRM itself, the servers itself and so forth. Origin has fuck all impact on the game once you have downloaded it and installed it? How do I know this? I actually tried the fucking thing before throwing a bitch fit like a self-entitled kid.
EA will learn the hard way when they notice their sales not being remotely as successful as it was when their new games were on Steam. Though some people don't care about the distribution platform and will get it on Origin anyway. Which is understandable since in the end, you still get to play your game. But Steam is the only online gaming distribution system I really trust.
I have no problem with Origin's existence (despite what my previous arguments may have sounded like), but how can any of you NOT have a problem with them pulling games off of Steam even though people have already bought it? What if someone uninstalls Crysis 2 and can't reinstall it on their steam games list? Does this mean people who bought it on steam can no longer get support for it? What the hell's going to happen with that big DX 11 patch that's coming in, does that mean steam users won't get it? Fuck that shit. I want my game's support back! Besides, exclusivity is a horrible way to promote competition. Making it so that games on your platform are cheaper than the very same games on another platform is much better, because either way you're making money.

You can still play the game, install the game, etc. You just cannot buy a new copy of the game from Steam. [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] God damn you act like games haven't been removed from the store before.
This is the first time for me. Hell, it's the first time I even heard that it could happen. So... yeah.
I think it happened a few times in the past, due to low CD keys or something they suspended the game. These articles are worded badly anyway, the game is only being removed from the Store from what I can tell, but people who own it should still receive full support.
Oh come on. Future EA games will only be on origins. I guess Origins would just be EA only games
Origin takes up twice as much memory as Steam. Oh and it takes 20 seconds to open anything.
It's a beta. Christ, you people are like a bunch of babies crying over a service which is not required to be running whilst you are playing your games. All I see in this thread is "cancelled my pre-order" and "fuck, EA have lost a bunch of sales thanks to this." Shut the fuck up whining and get over it.
