who cares? you still get to play the game as you would on steam, but because it's not on your beloved steam it's shit? it's the same thing
Origin is almost exactly the same as Steam, has an uglier interface, does not have nearly as many games as Steam, and does not have deals like Steam. There is no reason for EA to even THINK of taking on Steam with origin. And I don't want to have to have an extra process on my computer that will probably slow my game down more. It's a useless piece of shit program that will fail inevitably. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline]
Good I fucking hate steam.
I respect your opinion, but I really don't see what's wrong with it.
you know you can just get in your car drive down to your local store that sells games and pick up the game there I know it sounds crazy, but people actually used to do it years ago
The complaints about Origin are mainly because people, including me, are a little bothered by the fact that the only way to get Battlefield 3 without Origin is through retail. A lot of people like to buy their games from digital distribution and some people live far away from A Best Buy, Gamestop, EB Games, etc etc.
People like you are fucking stupid!!!!!! Just go buy the fucking game at the store if your so fucking worried about fucking EADM!
Well you sure sound smart with your amazing use of words. Personally, I probably won't be playing games that are exclusive to origin. Now, some of you are near crying en masse "go to the brick and mortar store to buy the game Jesus, fuck, bitch, whore," but in reality, doing such would just mean installing origin upon installation of the game. Now, the entire problem with origin is the fact that games are exclusive on it. At some point, we need to say "enough is enough," when it comes to just how many programs, logins, and passwords we need just to play a few games. And that is my premise for not buying origin exclusive games.
Origin is never going to catch on, anyways. After EA figures out that nobody wants to use it they'll go crawling back to Steam.
they will never manage to take steam down, at least it adds a little healthy rivalling to the market.
I doubt their plans are to take down steam. That is simply not possible if the only games you have are your own. But it will get a lot of members since it has hit games on it.
I doubt their plans are to take down steam. That is simply not possible if the only games you have are your own. But it will get a lot of members since it has hit games on it.
A lot of members who only launch it to play the game that they bought that requires it.
Except a program that isn't running can't slow down your game, and if it could, your pc sucks dick.
Actually, it doesn't. If you want I can post my specs. And it hasn't been confirmed whether or not you have to have Origin running in order to play BF3, has it?
Origin is digital distribution
Yeah but I'd rather be able to get it on Steam so that I don't have remember even more logins. I'm not entirely bothered by using, I'm just bothered mostly by how pointless it is.
Actually, it doesn't. If you want I can post my specs. And it hasn't been confirmed whether or not you have to have Origin running in order to play BF3, has it?
If your pc doesn't suck, it won't get slowed down by origin. And yes origin is 100% optional and is not required to be on to launch a game.
If it was steam, kind of a preemptive thing or is it because they want to show EA that they mean business?
Uh guys. I don't see the point. You're all acting exactly as how people acting how steam came out.
There was no big companies doing the same as Steam. I also see you joined Steam in 2005, so how did you know what everyone was acting like? To me, Steam changed PC gaming for the better.
Steam has Definitely changed PC gaming, and mac for that matter, for the better. I don't disagree with EA trying to create some competition, but like a lot of others, I think they're going to have to put up a serious fight to make me think of it being anywhere near as good as Steam. I don't like the exclusivity idea, It's much nicer to have things in one place, such as most games on Steam, as opposed to some on Direct2Drive, a few on Origin and some on Steam etc. It's a shame really, it seems like a lot of people might actually go to buying BF3 via retail because of this :(
And I don't want to have to have an extra process on my computer that will probably slow my game down more.
do you have a pentium 3 and 64mb ram or something?
I would probably not buy any of those games anyway, but I will now not do and use Origin as my excuse. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline]
do you have a pentium 3 and 64mb ram or something?
Maybe he just doesn't like having lots of shit running at once? I nearly had a fit when I found out that punkbuster tries to start itself at launch and run itself all of the time.
Shit they are trying to pull off a monopoly. I guess its easier to make you buy from them then it is to give a good service like steam.
I doubt their plans are to take down steam. That is simply not possible if the only games you have are your own. But it will get a lot of members since it has hit games on it.
they try to sap steam though, keeping it from getting it stronger in a short time.
they try to sap steam though, keeping it from getting it stronger in a short time.
Nothing wrong with that
Has it been confirmed Crysis 2 and all future EA games will not be on Steam? If you didn't know, Crysis 2 is on sale through Origin. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test Origin out instead of complaining about it. I can then decide whether or not to buy BF3 and ME3 through Origin or to just go retail. My only worry is EA will see their mistake(at least for Crysis 2) and they'll make a deal with valve to get that and possibly other titles back on Steam. I'd like for that to happen, I just don't want a lot of games on one account and one game on another account if I'm never going to use it again. [editline]17th June 2011[/editline] Big surprise, experiencing major problems just trying to purchase the game. It's not letting me buy it. Well it was fun testing Origin for 30 minutes. [editline]17th June 2011[/editline] Well guys, EA isn't the big bad company you think they are. At least not as big or as bad as Activision or other companies like them. I went to the live chat support because I could not purchase Crysis 2. And they gave me a copy of it for free. (Actually the first support guy screwed up and gave me Crysis 1 for free, so after another 30 minute chat I was given Crysis 2.) Now I have a legitimate reason to give Origin a shot.

Why are they doing this? Is it because they have to pay Steam to have their games on it? Surely not. This is why we can't have nice things. >:(
Somebody should change the title to clarify that it was Valve's decision to remove it for whatever reason.
Eh, I'd probably care more about having to download from Origin if I didn't already have EADM installed from a previous EA game. As long as it doesn't charge too much, and as long as I'm not forced to run it to play my games, I'm fine with it.
EADM updates itself to Origin.
Well if the boycott worked for the DLC, maybe it will work here?
Well if the boycott worked for the DLC, maybe it will work here?
It won't, they are holding hostages that people want. Look at the MW2 boycott, over half the members bought the game in end and dealt with non-dedicated servers. Buying retail isn't going to save people either, EA will just attach a origin installer with the game. Thus everyone on the PC will be using it.
Somebody should change the title to clarify that it was Valve's decision to remove it for whatever reason.
I'm sure EA wanted it off Steam. They're bragging about Crysis 2 being "Only on Origin." They also said no future EA games would come to Steam. If they wanted Crysis 2 on Steam they would be working it out with them instead of telling us that it was exclusive to Origin and that they were done with Steam. Sure Valve removed it, but didn't they willingly break a contract? Origin doesn't seem to be too bad in my opinion, my only worry is the fact they're switching all games to $60 games on release instead of $50.
Not buying BF3 if forced to use Origin.
Call me a dick, but I'm calling bullshit on that I'd be willing to bet money that 90% of you saying "fuck EA not buying BF3" are still going to buy it if it comes out and is as popular/big as any of the terrible COD series has been. [editline]17th June 2011[/editline] At this point the only real option is a boycott. Except boycott's inevitably fail because the vast majority will still dump their cash on the product with no second thought.
Well that email made me hate EA slightly less at least, at least they weren't the reason it was pulled so it wasn't just some scheme to get people to use their service instead.
