I didn't think EA could get any stupider, what could they possibly gain from removing a game from Steam?
Steam has millions of users, potential buyers of your product, and you remove said product so you can put it on some crappy reskin of EADM, this makes absolutely no sense to me.
It's like if you put TV commercials for a product on every TV in America, but than you get enough money together to open your own TV station in a third world country, so you rip the commercials off air in America even though you didn't have to, just so you can put them on your brand new TV channel watched by five people. [/longwindedspeech]
Well you'd want some exclusive stuff on your new TV station or nobody would use it
Is EA's main incentive for doing this just to get more profits and not give any to Steam?
I assume its to not have to pay royaltys to steam, and to have more control over the distribution of their games
How long do you think it's going to be before you're forced to have Origin installed to play those games?
If this becomes even remotely popular EA is going to milk it to death, don't be surprised if you start seeing ads everywhere on your computer after installing it.
Holy shit are you even aware that you have the steam client installed and it needs to be running to play games

yes EA is extremely well known for DD services evolving into adware
I remembering hearing on this forum that EA Downloader (Origins) doesn't let you download the game that you bought after an X amount of years. [sp]I think it was 2[/sp]
I guess that's a good enough reason. Not to mention EA is greedy and they will screw me over someway or another.

pretty much this, bought 2142 when it first came up for download on the site, wen to DL it recently and it wouldn't let me, contacted support, THEIR FUCKING DOWNLOADS EXPIRE AFTER A YEAR, UNLESS YOU PAY MORE SO THEY EXPIRE AFTER 2 YEARS.
if thats how they're gonna run that shit, I'm getting it for console, not gonna put up with EA's BS DRM shit.
Found it, it's only one year. Fuck that shit.

Ill uninstall Origin then. Origin is EADM except with a different name.
I wouldn't be surprised if EA did this to stop complete idiots from playing online to enhance the multiplayer experience
Ill uninstall Origin then. Origin is EADM except with a different name.
Won't Origin be needed to update games?
Yes, I was replying to his post, maybe you should read his post.
Im sure he read it. And it's true. Im done here, im turning into an asshole by arguing with you guys. My opinions no good here.

Im sure you can download patches from somewhere.
This isn't how you earn money EA.
Here's a fun fact, how will our Steam saves for ME/ME2 transfer if EA restricts ME3 to Origin?
Here's a fun fact, how will our Steam saves for ME/ME2 transfer if EA restricts ME3 to Origin?
um excuse me that's a question not a fact
Im sure you can download patches from somewhere.
Downloading patches via a Digital Distribution system is much more convenient than downloading through your browser.
Here's a fun fact, how will our Steam saves for ME/ME2 transfer if EA restricts ME3 to Origin?
Yeah changing the way the game is distributed is going to somehow change the save files right
You know what I just realized, Crysis 2 has an upcoming patch that supports Directx 11, how much you want to make a bet that it's going to come out in a week or so, and people on Steam won't be able to get it since Crysis 2 isn't supported on Steam anymore.

People were literally doing this 2 years ago it's not a hassle

You can register steam EA games on Origin
Won't Origin be needed to update games?
It doesn't have that capacity from what I've used of it. It literally just downloads a standalone game. Then installs it. The game should handle updates itself like most recent EA games do.
People were literally doing this 2 years ago it's not a hassle
Are you referring to digital distribution or browser download?
oh man i have to go on the internet download an exe file and click it!!!!
oh man i have to go on the internet download an exe file and click it!!!!
You don't have to click anything to update your games on Steam.
Doesnt really matter for me. For such a epic game, im buying the CD so i have a hard copy.
oh man i have to go on the internet download an exe file and click it!!!!
What a hassle this is my prime gaming time being lost why must the internet be so fucking inconvenient??
You don't have to click anything to update your games on Steam.
Holy shit are you trying to save calories
Seeing how EA likes to fuck everything up and screw over the cutomer I'm gonna just go buy whatever games that are good from them on disc.
People were literally doing this 2 years ago it's not a hassle
So pretty much all advancements in software/technology designed to make our user experience more convenient are pointless if they aren't at least 2 years old?
You don't have to click anything to update your games on Steam.
Really who cares. 1 simple tap of the mouse button won't kill you. What you are doing right now is TYPING.
Which is more time consuming then downloading a EXE.
So pretty much all advancements in software/technology designed to make our user experience more convenient are pointless if they aren't at least 2 years old?
It's still convenient they just aren't wiping your ass for you anymore
yeah but Steam won't be getting a cut of the purchase and EA isn't exactly an unknown company so i'm sure they'll more than make up for the loss
[editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
i'm sure EA reads this forum
I was playing it up. Is a bit annoying though. I know it just means another small download, but when does it stop? I don't want a different manager for each developer's games. It's bad enough with Gamespy etc.
Chucklenuts. You won't even have to browse the god damn web to update your games. Most recent(ish) games from EA update themselves with their launchers. You can run the games with no applications dependancies like steam, the game uses it's own (questionable) DRM and update manager usually.
Stop. Fucking. Whining. Origin really isn't horrible, it isn't ideal, but nothing is.
Now I see what they're doing. That's a very dirty tactic of them. :sigh:
Patching Battlefield 2 was such a hassle for me.
I'm sure Origins will have a patch-updater but I don't want to run it in the background just in case the only game I will ever buy from there needs a patch, if I don't and I do want to play it then I just lost potential game time because my ISP, or any other ISPs I can use, can't deliver a good download speed.
I hope Battlefield 3 is still going to be available on Steam and this is just a huge misunderstanding but I highly doubt it will be.
the best part of crysis 2 is the soundtrack and I can just listen to that on youtube, if they think that this is gonna get people flocking to Origin then they're mistaken
