What wait though? I know the time saved is so insignificant it's not even worth thinking about but you could roll back each time saving idea in small increments all the way to when computers were the size of libraries.
There goes my hopes of Battlefield 2142 being on Steam.
Seeing how EA likes to fuck everything up and screw over the cutomer I'm gonna just go buy whatever games that are good from them on disc.
I usually do that anyways since I have some semblance of social skills. Except for the Sims. I'd feel damn awkward walking up to the counter with the Sims 3 in hand.
You don't have to click anything to update your games on Steam.
Uggggghhh, clicking mouse, too hard.
There are legitimate concerns about removing games off steam/ea steam games becoming inaccessible on steam. That isn't one of them.
Is Origin just a download manager or is it effectively trying to be Steam?
Provided EA doesn't make the downloads expire, I can add the games to my Steam library, and I can play them without installing some program I don't want then I really don't care.

do you mean when making a computer fart took 3 minutes of processing time
i think we've advanced past that
Also I'm sure EA is going to backtrack hard once they see lack of sales. This hurts everyone rather than benefiting anyone.
Ohhh I'm trying to be optimistic for these people. I must be the scum of the earth.
Yea keep getting mad. ITS JUST A FUCKING DOWNLOADER. Once you install the game you can DELETE IT. Then you can add BF3 to your games list in STEAM.
More than likely their going to make it like steam where you need to use their client to start the game up.
More than likely their going to make it like steam where you need to use their client to start the game up.
True, but i doubt they would do that. You already bought the game. No point of making you forced to use Origin.

Its essentially a glorified download manager with a few extra things if you so choose to leave it on. You can play the games without Origin on though.
Someone said earlier in the thread there was a 1 year download limit but that seems kind of weird since they tried it before and later removed the time limit.

Oh no then it will be exactly like steam what a horrible fate

Your just missing my point again.
yes the time saved is insignificant but equally there's no reason to make it any more difficult.
I honestly don't see myself buying BF3 on release if it's not on Steam, unless they require me to preorder if for some stupid exclusive crap, then I might have to because I don't want to lose out on stuff because I wasn't an early adopter.

well i guess it's a good thing every recent EA game has automatic patching regardless of what dd system you use so this entire argument is moot

Oh my god... Is it so hard to just BUY a game in Retail then.
What the poop

Just wait till like the week before. While I'm not buying it on steam to begin with, if old trends show they'll put it on about a week or so before release.

Tis indeed. Still holds in general though.
Oh my god... Is it so hard to just BUY a game in Retail then.
Most facepunchers are lazy and don't want to go to the local store to buy retail. That and its also more convenient. Also a fair few lack the social grace of walking up to the counter and asking to buy a game.
Oh my god... Is it so hard to just BUY a game in Retail then.
this, what the flip is wrong with retail
To be honest, I think the real reason why people who are against Origins is because it'll give other publishers ideas to withdraw their games from Steam and make their own Download Distribution. It happened with EA's DLC and their anti-second hand games.
I just don't want it to potentially get rid of Steam, if this becomes a trend for all the game publishers. :saddowns:

I don't want to? I CBA to play 2142, UT2k4, TDU2, Guild Wars, and any other game I own retail because it's much more convenient to use Steam.

Get it off Amazon. It's usually cheaper and you get a physical copy. Apart form games that require you to register them on steam (in which case you may as well buy them on steam if they're cheaper) I much prefer physical copies, though not retail itself, as high street stores stock less PC games than fucking PS2 games.

Well its time to get off your ass and go retail. You would be pretty fucked if Steam never existed then.
A few things about my perspective on this:
Firstly, I never acted this way about steam, hell I didn't even know it existed until 2008 at which point I was really excited about all the cheap games and joined up straight away.
Secondly, the reason I don't want to use origin is because it's an inconvenience. I don't want to launch steam to play half my games and then when I want to play, for example, BF3 I don't want to have to launch some other bloody program just to load up the game, or anything similar to this.
Thirdly I don't see any advantages of origin to steam. More expensive, I get a worse download rate with them and they don't have as many games, plus none of my friends use it. Frankly, being forced to use this piece of crap would massively put me off buying a game.
Doesnt really matter for me. For such a epic game, im buying the CD so i have a hard copy.
How does buying a DVD on a Valve game change anything from not having to worry about Steam? What makes you so confident that Origin won't be installed with all new retail EA games?

Then googling for a few minutes every patch that comes out, or unknowngly launching the game after a patch and discovering there's a new patch out when you want to play, having to quit and find the download, oh man it's a 500MB patch, looks like you'll be waiting ~10 minutes, oh the game no longer sounds fun. You have 55 games on Steam, I have 250. There's also the benefit of every single game on Steam being portable, useable on partitions other than the System default, having Steam integration by default (This is BF3, mind you, it will have punk-buster that probably won't let you play with the steam overlay if it's not on Steam).
I also switch systems a lot, I've built three PCs since this December, having all my games on Steam makes it way easier to play them all whenever I want to. Retail might work fine for you, but imagine having to reinstall 250 games from retail, it's not fun, even on Steam it takes a long time. From now on, though, I will be keeping the HDD with all my steam games on it.
Also: this is my system tray:

I don't want to have another crappy thing there for a single game.
I remembering hearing on this forum that EA Downloader (Origins) doesn't let you download the game that you bought after an X amount of years. [sp]I think it was 2[/sp]
I guess that's a good enough reason. Not to mention EA is greedy and they will screw me over someway or another.
It was something about them guaranteeing that you'll be able to download for at least 2 years after you buy it.
it's pretty much saying that if they decide the whole origin thing was a bad idea and shut the service down, you'll be able to download the game for at least 2 years after the purchase date, even if they decide to shut down origin.

Origin requires NO client, steam requires you to have an internet connection to log in and play games, if your friends don't play the game then why are you complaining about them not using it, pre-orders have never been cheaper on steam

Hey, you don't have to launch origin to play your games. You need it to download and install them, then you can have it off while you play. At this point you can still make a steam shortcut for them anyways.
Second part, doesn't matter if you have friends that don't use it since you can steam shortcut the games and play them while using steam. Download rate is subjective, mine is about the same for both and they both cost the same amount, the only difference being that Steam actually has sales and a better library.
I really don't see the fuss about it right now unless EA does something drastic with Origin which I doubt.
