Have you ever thought about how many American "fat/dumb-ass" or hyper-patriotism jokes there are?
Or Australian "upside-down land" jokes?
Or what about the whole "Russians are horrible drivers"?
Maybe even the "Canada is the land of maple syrup and moose" running joke?
Everyone has some weird stereotypes, people generally make jokes about their own country's all the time.
not that im defending france or anything, but all of these things you listed are partially true. canada has a lot of moose/maple syrup, america are statisitically one of the fattest countries, austrialia is actually upside down, etc.
france, on the other hand, dominated european affairs for literally hundreds of years. from the 30 years war, even until way after the battle of waterloo and into the 20th century, france was considered a great power. the french army had a huge impact on other european countries, and the french had some huge military victories. the idea that france is a bunch of whimps is some contemporary thing based on their performance in WWII, it's not really that historically accurate.
although to be fair the french are a bunch of whiners if they still care about waterloo.
You mean we shouldn't do anything if some countries want to make fun of us? I don't see what's wrong being against this kind of stuff.
The English and the French have always engaged in friendly ribbing. I mean yes sometimes it was less friendly esp. when your Catholic asses got together and we had a big war for like a hundred years or whatever, but that's all in the past.
Just make some jokes about sausage eating and bad teeth and fat red-faced Welsh farmers getting too friendly with their livestock and it'll be fine

what I'm saying is don't raise the white flag just yet
Of course; I already did that before. I'm just getting fed up of all those sheeps making "jokes" like these:
We should, of course, get over this defeat.
But it's okay if these kids STILL make these "white flag" and "lol being french" kind of jokes? First time I saw this white flag joke was in 2008.
At this point, these "jokes" has been run to the ground; they were fun once, but now this is just insulting. I don't go on all german topics to write "ahah hitler country!".
To be honest, any country that's relevant gets made fun of. The day the french stopped being ridiculed is the day you're no longer important to the rest of the world. That's when you should be upset.
Imagine being France and thinking your relevant.
The Lion's mound is a dope monument, one of my favorites:

The funniest thing about this debacle is that the monument is not to celebrate the defeat of the french but to commemorate the location of William the second when he was wounded in battle. Oh those French.

super serendipitous that William the Second was wounded at the top of an impressive hill that makes his monument visible for miles around

I can't tell if it's good luck or bad luck

bloody french

Honestly if anyone is the butt of the jokes over here, it's the Belgians. Many French jokes involve Belgian people doing something stupid. In comparison, foreigners demonstrating a lack of historical knowledge shouldn't be much of an issue.

And that's not even taking into account the French resistance, the Free French Forces, and so on. You don't see people calling the Polish cowards just because they were steamrolled at the beginning of WW2.

This is how wars in Europe go, two sides fight, the winner gets to take the piss out of the loser.

The Germans won? That's news to me.
The monument of Waterloo is one of the few Belgian monuments we can put on coins anyway. What else we gonna do? Put Manneken Pis on our coins? Putting the King/Queen on your coins is pretty boring.
The Germans won? That's news to me.
France lost, therefore the piss gets taken.
Even though this isn't actually taking the piss out of the french, but you'reg getting pissy and approaching dead sea levels of salt about it.

There are alot of monuments in Genk that could be put on our coins. We also have so much Middle Age monuments in Wallonia and Flander that deserve to be put on the coins...

If in two thousand years of history, the only significant event you can think of your county doing is something done by the British, you might have a problem.

Am I? The post you quoted from me says that the Belgians have it way worse than us, how is that being pissy?
I think you have me mistaken for someone else.
Imagine waking up and remembering that you're French
Don't salt the wound

I meant the french people who got mad at Belgium for their original plans for the original coin (and subsequently getting mad at this coin being made) not you specifically.
It's ok guys, they'll surrender soon anyway.

None quite as well known or memorable as the Waterloo Lion, Manneken Pis or the Atomium, though.
I want to buy these. They'll be pretty good collectibles in a few decades.
Well I gotta thank the frenchs. If Napoleon didn't try to get to the prince of Portugal João, they royal family would never come here and we would never evolve from colony.

And now I have another reason to curse the French

I hear that Leopold II fella was a pretty big guy in Belgium, im sure everybody would love him on a coin.

No, he was an asshole.
I hear that Leopold II fella was a pretty big guy in Belgium, im sure everybody would love him on a coin.
I'd rather have Albert I. Leopold II was a good king for Belgium but an asshole to everyone in Africa, which means it's kind of mixed feelings.
It's a shame that nobody gives love to Leopold 1st
:(

Portugal will rise again.
So this Belgian coin is offensive but this French silver €1,50 commemorative coin from 2005 celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Austerlitz (1805) in which Napoleon fought and won from the Austrians and the Russians is perfectly okay. Weird standards.

Now all we need is for Austria to make a commemorative coin for the Seige of Namur (1914) in which the Austria and Hungary defeated Belgium to finish the circle and make everyone happy again~
