Kickstarter is very strict about their terms and our project will not be funded. Obviously, we are very disappointed. We have invested 10 months and over $60,000 of our own money into this project. It is so frustrating to come so close, but clearly there simply isn't that much interest in building the kind of game I envisioned. I have already invested everything I have getting my dream this far (twice!) and now I must feed my family and focus on projects that will pay the bills. Thank you all for your support and help and I am sorry that we came up short. Perhaps we will try again at some future point once I have attended to my personal and team's immediate financial needs. I have been trying to build this game for almost 14 years so I doubt this is the end for Alpha Colony, but I do have to be responsible business owner and father and accept the reality of where we are at the moment and what the world wants.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1547218311/alpha-colony-an-exploration-building-and-trading-g Not really news, but kinda. This must be the worst feeling ever, probably the equivalent to being kicked in the nuts 200 times.
thats pretty fucked up
Well shit, why didn't they send an email to backers or something in the ~20 minutes before the deadline? That's terrible, but honestly I feel like they could have found other means to alert people about it.
This must be the worst feeling ever, probably the equivalent to being kicked in the nuts 200 times.
I wouldn't say that much, more like 28 times.
So what happens? Does the money get distributed back to the people who donated?
That is so fucking depressing, and kinda stupid on Kickstarter's part. But, why didn't he just put in that last $28 using a separate account?
This is hilarious, you'd think they'd donate the $28 themselves.
Kickstarter is very strict about their terms and our project will not be funded
This is gonna be massively bad PR for kickstarter, since 28$ is a drop in the ocean compared to 50,000$ I hope this gets spread around, along with a list of alternative websites are are more flexible when it comes to goal terms.
Um, could they not have just asked a friend? And pay them back? Presume this is against some TOC though?
So what happens? Does the money get distributed back to the people who donated?
Pretty sure if funding fails the money gets returned to the people.
I feel for them, but the game looks pretty fucking boring IMO. Also if you really have passion for your project you shouldn't completely rely on kickstarter in order to make it.
I think they should just email or message all the people who pledged to the kickstarter (if they can still talk to them through kickstarter after their project failed), and ask for the same amount on direct donations with the same reward tiers. Having 99% of your goal is enough to encourage people to invest, even if it is through a non-kickstarter avenue.
Um, could they not have just asked a friend? And pay them back? Presume this is against some TOC though?
Even if it was, they wouldn't ever know about it.
The money only gets taken if funding is successful.. But yeah this is dumb.
Couldn't of he say, made a paypal account and deposited some of his own money just before it ended? I know that's probably against the rules, but still, he could of at least of gotten one of his friends or family to do it.
I would of donated the final 28 if I actually knew
This is why i prefer indiegogo's flexible campaign. They get whats donated immediately
Surely the person could of asked someone on the internet ATLEAST to donate it, and then give it back?
Kickstarters tend to speed up near the end in terms of people backing the project, so they probably didn't have enough time to get another account sorted before they realized what was about to happen.
perhaps kickstarter should have an auto-extend where there's an amount of pledge-time added that's inversely proportional to the percentage of money still required.
So what happens? Does the money get distributed back to the people who donated?
The way kickstarter works is that the backers are only charged once it hits the deadline. If it fails no money changes hands.
The way kickstarter works is that the backers are only charged once it hits the deadline. If it fails no money changes hands.
So what happens if it makes the goal just barely, but some of the charges get denied?
Didn't look all that great anyway
Didn't look all that great anyway
he put 60,000 into that??
he put 60,000 into that??
You can't really judge a game on a single screenshot with no information regarding gameplay And 60,000 is pittance when you factor in living costs of yourself, wages for your team, commercial software licensing, office space rental and the purchasing of the rights for audio and whatnot
Didn't look all that great anyway
Still, you can't help but feel bad for em.
Didn't look all that great anyway
from the thumbnail it looks like an amiga strategy game

If you spent 60,000 of your own money and needed another 50,000 you are doing something wrong
You can't really judge a game on a single screenshot with no information regarding gameplay
You kinda' can when it looks like a bloody flash game. [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline] Hell, it seems more like an iPhone game. I looked at this Kickstarter a while ago and it seemed like it wasn't that good so I simply didn't donate. I guess others felt the same.
