Also am I the only one who's hoping Hollywood tries to take this guy on just to see the public rally around this awesome dude? Seriously this reads like the plot of one of those cheap-but-heartwarming January movies. And he'd probably pirate the fuck out of it.
I feel kind of bad for him, losing his wife and all. But its good that hes helping out people over there.
this is the US army we're talking about dude, dr seuss books don't go 200 pages long. hahahaha just kidding guys
But imagine a Dr Seuss book with 200 pages. Pure deep story and thought :v:
print them out i guess i think paper is cheaper than blank dvds but jeez maybe the government should be doing this anyway? they should be responsible for the morale of their soldiers not this old guy he should be able to enjoy his pension or whatever
I agree. but the thing is the old guy is trying to keep himself occupied since his wifes death. Which is really sweet.
Fuck hollywood.
The only smart way Hollywood can stop this guy is to start sending free movies themselves, but that won't happen.
I'm of the opinion that he's created the perfect situation for himself. Sure, he's literally pirated thousands of movies, but if the MPAA were to attempt to take him down legally, they'd go even farther towards absolutely destroying their reputation by suing a man that's been sending movies to the men and women of our Armed Forces. [editline]28th April 2012[/editline] In an active combat zone, no less.
The real news story here is that a 92 year old actually knows how to work a computer and copy DVDs.
Now I really can't figure out why my mother can't.......
That clock looks awesome
The clock on the computer, right?

I agree with you though, if they were to try to take this guy down their name would be even closer to dirt than it already is.
This is great. The MPAA must be extremely pissed off, but they can't do anything about him without pissing off half the military.
This is great. The RIAA must be extremely pissed off, but they can't do anything about him without pissing off half the military.
The RIAA is the trade organization for the music industry in the US, the MPAA is the one for films. I don't think this guy was pirating music.
I believe the US Postal Service offers heavily discounted/free shipping for gifts to overseas soldiers.
Our mailing addresses are actually stateside addresses for us overseas folk. Mail is shipped there before it goes over seas(the military takes care of that part). There's no 121 Afghanistan way address.
how does he afford to send so many movies and dvds to burn them onto? well he seems nice i hope they don't throw him in the hoosegow [editline]29th April 2012[/editline] i mean, i had something shipped to me in nz from usa and that was 46$ american dollars for international shipping surely it would be more for usa to afghanistan and he must have done it so often
46 dollars for shipping alone? thats a rip off man! I get stuff sent to me from america to nz for like 12 NZD shipping
46 dollars for shipping alone? thats a rip off man! I get stuff sent to me from america to nz for like 12 NZD shipping
the site only allowed one kind of shipping my dog [editline]29th April 2012[/editline] and that cost 46 bucks
aaaww what a lovely story. [sp]give him the chair[/sp]
The MPAA studios send reel-to-reel film. It's hilarious.
I'd love to see them charge him. They'd be losing soooo much money from the court case.
I'd love to see them charge him. They'd be losing soooo much money from the court case.
They would win, and easily. He openly admits to copyright infringement and would be taken for everything he has, which likely isn't much. Just because he's breaking the law in support of soldiers won't get him off the hook if it really comes to court.
