Shock new bestseller in Norway is… the BIBLE! Secular nation turns to religious reading http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2337582/Shock-new-bestseller-Norway-BIBLE-Secular-nation-turns-religious-reading.html
Well it's certainly an interesting read, even if you have to skip the "begets".
Released in October 2011 by the Norwegian Bible Society, the new translation replaces a 1978 edition, with the goal of improving readability and accuracy. For example, in the older version, Mary was called a 'virgin.' In the new translation she is referred to instead as a 'young' woman.
Well that's nice. I wonder what they did to the parts where Jesus walks on water.

Doesn't changing "Virgin Mary" to "Young Woman Mary" kind of ruin the point of Jesus being born from a woman who never had sex until later.
Doesn't changing "Virgin Mary" to "Young Woman Mary" kind of ruin the point of Jesus being born from a woman who never had sex until later.
scholars think that virgin was a mistranslation, and that mary was, in fact, just a young woman
scholars think that virgin was a mistranslation, and that mary was, in fact, just a young woman
Don't tell the Vatican :v:
scholars think that virgin was a mistranslation, and that mary was, in fact, just a young woman
Damn religion, always changing its mind and shit. How do they expect me to trust them when they're always changing things around? It's very confusing!
I hope I'm not the only person whose first thought for "Norway", "Bibles," and "new best-seller" was something along the lines of this: [t]http://blog.thephoenix.com/blogs/blogs/onthedownload/Marduk_old-lineup.jpg[/t] + [t]http://thefreeman.net/journal/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Bible-Burn.bmp[/t] Because stereotypes are fun, right? :v:
In a surprising move in what is one of the most secular nations in Europe, a new Norwegian language version of the Scriptures has become the country's best-selling book.
Wait, so it's only in "Nynorsk"?
scholars think that virgin was a mistranslation, and that mary was, in fact, just a young woman
The literal translation is young woman, it was just a phrase that was used to refer to a virgin. So people of that language would understand it to say that she was a virgin but in another language would read it as simply, a young woman.
Wait, so it's only in "Nynorsk"?
I think you misunderstood. it said ''new norwegian language version'' meaning new version of the bible, not the language. I'm pretty sure it's in Bokmal, otherwise it wouldn't have sold this well.
Wait, so it's only in "Nynorsk"?
Græmmær ain noll ain, means a new translation of the bible in Norwegian has become the best selling book. [editline]7th June 2013[/editline] Jævla ninja.
SPOILER: JESUS DIES
SPOILER: JESUS DIES
I'm gonna write a fanfiction where he comes back to life. This isn't really surprising since Norway has been getting more conservative for a while now. Hopefully we see a Norse revival instead of a Christian revival.
I'm gonna write a fanfiction where he comes back to life. This isn't really surprising since Norway has been getting more conservative for a while now.
Well it's certainly an interesting read, even if you have to skip the "begets".
I remember as a kid picking up the family freemason bible, totally down to actually read it, but just sighing the hardest I've ever sighed as I went through the begets until I just left it.
I wonder, how many people on this forum are religious?
SPOILER: JESUS DIES
Not really, he gets retconned later on. Fucking fanfics.
I wonder, how many people on this forum are religious?
Probably very many that aren't vocal about it.
SPOILER: JESUS DIES
We have spoiler tags for a reason you pie hole!
I wonder, how many people on this forum are religious?
I believe in Gaston, the god of sleep. My holy trinity is the couch, the bed and the holy recliner, and I make sure to pray for 8 hours every night.
I believe in Gaston, the god of sleep. My holy trinity is the couch, the bed and the holy recliner, and I make sure to pray for 8 hours every night.
I pray to Atheos. That makes me an Atheist.
I'm gonna write a fanfiction where he comes back to life.
He did that. in the bible.
Damn religion, always changing its mind and shit. How do they expect me to trust them when they're always changing things around? It's very confusing!
Its not religion changing its mind. Its just a revision conducted by scholars on the translation. This way they can determine the 'truth.'
