DICE: 'We should be slapped' for Battlefield 3 unlocks

Or how about you just remove progression systems all together?
noshahr canals, kharg island, caspian border, operation firestorm and damavand peak were fantastic, it was only operation metro, grand bazaar, seine crossing and tehran highway that were bad.
Metro and Bazaar were perfectly fun 16 player maps. It's just that most server owners but every conquest map in their rotation despite running a 48+ player server.
There is nothing wrong with battlelog.
nobody wants to open god damn facebook to start up battlefield. Not having in game menus is by far the stupidest thing ever.
battlelog is the most fucking annoying server browser i have ever used
if you get kicked from a server or disconnect you have to boot the game up all over again
pisses me off so much

I've had the same or more issues with every prior Battlefield game going back to 1942.

Yeah but at least those were in game browsers and you didn't have to boot and reboot the game when all you wanted to do was switch servers. Battlelog was probably the worst thing about Battlefield 3.

Maybe it's just my personal experience but getting booted from a BC2 server, refreshing the server list, then joining a new one was at best marginally faster than doing the same through Battlelog. It's hard for me to say which system is better because they feel the same.
Though I will say Battlefield 4 Battlelog looks snazzy as hell.
you should be slapped for a lot of things, dice, and unlocks are far from the worst of it
also, apart from that it shouldn't fucking exist, there's nothing wrong with battlelog
"We’ve added a test range where you can learn to fly the transport helicopter
Yes
Oh god yes
I hated how there wasn't a way to learn how to fly the helicopter and kids usually crashed that thing
What's wrong with Tehran Highway?
Everyone would hog the transport vehicles, tanks and quad bikes and you'd be left on your own pacing only to get shot by a sniper, but you had no clue where they fucking were cause it was too fucking dark
the bf3 unlock system was complete shit
you had to grind on shit maps over and over again to get unlocks, and if you wanted to play honestly you would barely ever get any unlocks.
really? I found it was really easy to unlock stuff in bf3, maybe its because I was used to it taking ages in bf2 and bf2142
[editline]4th October 2013[/editline]
also I dunno if it was just me but the helicopters and jets were super easy to fly

Most gun unlocks were fine, up until the DLC ones where you had to play certain maps or do certain things to unlock them (IE: Get 25 headshots in mid air after jumping out of a jet that you stole from an enemy that you've taken dog tags from at least twice), but the vehicle ones were a pain in the ass because you couldn't actively unlock them unless you played the same map with that vehicle over and over and over while only playing that vehicle and pretty much being useless to your team. It was super fucking tedious to unlock shit you should have had from the get-go.
The Premium/DLC weapons had such bullshit unlock requirements. Win 5 matches of Squad Deathmatch? Who the fuck plays Squad Deathmatch? It's shit.
Battlelog was an abomination and all, but I don't think it compares to
"Oh whoops, I couldn't take cover and got killed, looks like I don't have my prone button bound to the correct key (probably because it's hard-coded since porting a game to PC is hard), I'll go reset LOOK AT THE GUY THAT KILLED YOU WOOOOOOOOO STARE AT HIM FOR THIRTY SECONDS OH YOU WERE IN THE MENU TOUGH SHIT BATTLEFIELD THE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE DRRN DRRN DRRN D-DRRN DRRN
While I loved BF3, there was one aspect that really got me.
The fact apart from BF3 itself I had to run Origin and Battlelog.
I've had a terrible experience with battlefield3- from the launcher to the core game itself. No matter what BF4 will be like I'll definitely pass.
The unlocks were a terribly frustrating aspect in particular, I swear the game felt no different from any other f2p military shooter to a new player- join a server, get mauled by people dozens of level above you with weapons you'll likely never get to try, rinse, repeat.
I universally hate unlocks in every game
Just let me play the fucking game casually please, I don't want to have to spend 800 hours ingame just so I can get the full functionality of a few guns
I skipped BF3 completely and kept playing Bad Company 2 over Battlelog and Origin.
To this day, I still think I made the right choice. BF4 better fix a lot of shit.
so far in the beta the netcode is still just as bad, if not worse than bf3. its really REALLY shittly optimized with you requiring to have an SSD to download it on or you will get studdering issues and 5 min loadtimes. i mean shit my GTX 670 has problems running it on medium let alone on high. the gunfights are still like insta killed randomly with no warning. All i wanted was for them to switch the damn netcode from client side to fucking server side, but no, got to keep it client side for DRM.

I like unlocks in video games, they add a sense of progression and meaning, makes things addicting. But I don't think they belong in Military First Person Shooters like Battlefield and Call of Duty :v:

Well, I don't know about only RPG's. I like it in games like War of The Roses and Payday, I also thought it was pretty cool in Rainbow Six: Vegas.
[editline]4th October 2013[/editline]
And to be honest I don't think it's terrible in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, I just hated that you literally had to spend like 100+ hours to get everything - and it felt like they just made the game and then slapped on the unlock system as an afterthought. Games like Blacklight: Retribution and other such (usually free-to-play) FPS games it works, but in those games (atleast with Blacklight) it's handled pretty well in my opinion and it felt like they were built around the system.
All this talk about battlelog being the worst thing to happen to BF.
Did people forget from old age what BF's multiplayer menu experience used to be like?
Here's a reminder:

Fuck you punkbuster, whenever i hear that song all I can think of is all the bs you put me through when I just wanted to play
Punkbuster is shit, battlelog is shit but Battlefield is just so good :c
TBH BF4 isn't on a great path either. The defibrillator should not even be an unlock in the first place for instance.
The only reason they finally claim that their unlock system was shit in BF3 is to glorify their upcoming game.

Yeah punkbuster sucks but again, once you solved those problems they didn't require you to shut the game down and reboot it if you wanted to switch servers. Battlelog makes punkbuster look like a damn saint.
battlelog is great because it loads straight to the level - effectively removing the main menu/boot time
also it lets you go on the internet while the game loads and notifies you once its done loading
Haven't had any issues with Battlelog whatsoever. It's fast, it works, and it isn't the horrid server browser that we put up with in BC2. The filters work just fine for me. And now in BF4 you can even use it as an extra mini-map on a second monitor with the Battlescreen option. Because it's a website it's bloody easy for DICE to update, and for users to mod using plugins like Better Battlelog. I really don't see how previous options were superior. The game didn't load faster at all in BC2.
[editline]5th October 2013[/editline]
Plus BF3 / BF4 has some of the smoothest alt-tabbing short of playing borderless windowed.
I wouldn't mind 10 seconds more loading time for in game menus if it means not having to deal with the battlelog perma Co-Op bug ever again.
The BF2 menu music still gives me mental anguish because of punkbuster
[editline]4th October 2013[/editline]
When that music start's up you know it's game over because apparently you're a hacker

That's probably the biggest problem with something like Battlefield 3's unlocks. Every class can contribute in their own way to the warzone, but individual players? One might have an unlock that makes their gun more accurate and deadly, or another player might have flares unlocked for their helicopter that allow them to shake off missiles. I think unlocks should be either cosmetic or side-grade, things with different advantages and disadvantages alongside the base material for everyone's personal playing style - not distinct upgrades or buffs just because you killed a lot of people with a single gun or grinded levels a lot. That just unevens the field and makes things feel cheap.
