This is always a great point.
It's like blaming porn for having a sex drive.
Then again, people do do it.

judging by your posts
so do you
this is the one thread that i need sanius to be in, the comments about girls being retarded are ridiculous
I bet most of you males also feel bad about yourself when you see slim muscly handsome hunks in movies or tv shows too. For some reason though guys don't like to say they do though.
Well I can't speak for every other guy, but I myself am not that bothered. I know that if I want to look like that dude it's going to take time and effort but I can pull it off. I don't expect things to change for me just because I'm a lazy cunt and can't be bothered to start working for it (that's for all you girls out there).
Many girls I know are like "Why can't I look like THAT?" and its some anorexic model who looks 5 lbs from death. The media has ruined peoples perception of how they look.
Edit:
I bet most of you males also feel bad about yourself when you see slim muscly handsome hunks in movies or tv shows too. For some reason though guys don't like to say they do though.
I already accepted that I'm below average years ago and by this point I don't give a fuck
I find this rather ridiculous, surely if you don't like the content then don't read it.

Thanks for telling us. Everyone on this forum wants your dick now, you sexy hunk. Even me. Especially me
She might be onto something: don't like it, don't buy it
Though to be fair it's kind of hard to avoid these model images plastered on every ad, cover and in every clothes shop.
But protesting to companies ain't gonna change that; the free market decides what's shown, and a lot of women fall for buying these magazines thanks to these images.
If you want change, you've got to incite the change in people's views and opinions, not in the companies.

First panel.
(Clicking it shows the full comic, and whatnot.) I find it to be fairly accurate. The made up, airbrushed models honestly look ugly to me. They are "too perfect".
As a guy it's just as easy to feel bad after reading a magazine filled with Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren ads.

women have a legitimate concern about the fashion industry because they are being held up to an extremely unhealthy standard. men are not
women have a legitimate concern about the fashion industry because they are being held up to an extremely unhealthy standard. men are not
You mean a standard that you could only find in a 1000$ purchase of Adobe CS6. That's right you too can look like the perfect teenage girl/pretentious bitch and learn a skill that is useful in the world just for a slim payment of 1000$.
Isn't part of the reason that the bar for women seems so high isn't because it keeps moving up but we keep falling back with social health issues like a 66% Obesity rate. Vogue obviously isn't helping the matter but they are a company they have to keep up an image women want to aspire too. I don't think anyone want to aspire to Average.

no woman in their right mind wants to aspire to be a stick. the fashion industry manipulates people to sell products
these cunts are dumb as hell, they can petition all they want, it's not like they can do anything to change a private company. and are they really that self-concerned that the first thing they think of after seeing a model is how ugly themselves are? there's no "oh wow look how pretty that is", only "wow this company seriously wronged me". they all need to be taken down a notch. same with their belts too.
fucking teenage girls
women have a legitimate concern about the fashion industry because they are being held up to an extremely unhealthy standard. men are not
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm getting the impression that you think men are holding them up to this standard.
Thing is, I've never seen it.
The only people that seem to hold them to this standard are women. And they're the ones who are buying the magazines. The problem is a deep sociological problem that has to do with biology and how society views women.
[editline]14th July 2012[/editline]
I'll agree that the fashion industry has been manipulative, sure.
I prefer my woman imperfect.
I prefer my woman imperfect.
I wouldn't consider airbrushed people perfect.

yeah bitch keep going on rating people dumb for having a different opinion. any industry manipulates people to buy shit.
the 21 visitor message pages of people telling you how stupid you are seem extremely warranted.

I would say that this is a pretty decent argument, actually.
The fashion industry thrives off selling makeup and clothing to make somebody look better. If people think that they already look top-of-the-line, then why would they be pushed to purchase these products?
Every other industry tells you that whatever you have at the moment is shit and that their product will make your lives 100x better.
Is it moral? Maybe not. The fashion industry isn't unique in this regard, however, and people should be educated on this matter instead of having the fashion industry destroyed for it.
women have a legitimate concern about the fashion industry because they are being held up to an extremely unhealthy standard. men are not
You could argue it's unhealthy in its own right to be as obsessed with your body as male models are. You'd have to spend hours and hours and hours each week and mould your life around getting perfect pecs etc. Plenty of dangers inherent there, even if it isn't as bad as anorexia.
But anyway I wasn't saying it's comparable health-wise. The article talked about the mental and confidence degrading effect reading these magazines has. I was just saying it's easy to have that feeling as a man, too.

being athletic and fit is healthy. being a stick is not
no man is going to suffer psychological trauma because they are held to a healthy standard in the fashion industry
The reasoning behind the "Dont like it dont buy it" argument doesnt really work. Its not just what this kind of imagery does to expectations on a personal level, its what it does to the expectations of society.
the ammount of times ive seen pictures of a healthy and attractive looking Women posted, on this website alone, followed by a whole bunch of posters saying "shes too fat for me" is shocking for me, becuase , the woman in question was alwas no-where even close to being fat, she just didnt have bones pressing up against her skin.

"It's not the biggest problem in the world so it's not important."
Take your username and heed it as a suggested course of action for your self, as well as add the words, "and at least enough brain cells to reach zero" and you should be good to go.

I don't know why you can just rule it out, but in either case there's a big possibility of injury or illness from over exercising. It's not that radical to suggest the current fashion body image standards for both genders aren't helpful
People are only ever a product of their environment. It's understandable that some humans feel insecure or pressured into looking "beautiful" as our environment has shown us that characteristic is a very important one unfortunately.
It is sad to think that a lot of mentally and physically damaged people out there would be living healthy lives if someone just made them see that superficial qualities are barely qualities at all.
