$1400 is still far too expensive for the machine IMO. Then again, this is geared towards developers, not really bringing Ubuntu "to the masses."

sounds like she just needs some cheese with her Wine
Pretty shit PPI, not really worth it in my books.

what the fuck is a verizon internet CD? They can compress the internet into a CD?
Seriously though, what the fuck is a verizon internet CD? I have Verizon and I never had to install the internet on my computer.
Just wondering, are Dell laptops really that good? I'm thinking of getting XPS 15.
Every Dell, Laptop or Desktop, I have ever used has been terrible.
If you're a hardware-selling business, you don't jump software every 6 months, you stick to LTS.
Windows works fine for OEMs because they bring out a new version at like a minimum of every 3 years, but Linux grows exponentially every 2 months, so they literally have to stick with the LTS releases.
I know that much but then it becomes a misnomer to say "latest and greatest". It is understandable.
Every Dell, Laptop or Desktop, I have ever used has been terrible.
That's why MacBooks are so popular, most PC's OEM's make are so bad and the past experiences are so poor that to the desperate for a good experience consumer, Apple is a godsend at a price premium
is 1366x768 really a bad resolution for a 13" laptop screen?
I have an 18.5" monitor of the same (native) resolution connected to my tower and I have no problems with the resolution (well, the hud mini-map in Total War games is all blocky as a result but that's it). But it has meant my HD5830 has lasted me quite a while.

The Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S3 have that resolution.
Linus Torvalds (the guy who made Linux) said that if a 400$ tablet can have a 2560×1600 display, it should be standard in laptops and computers.
http://www.apacinter.com/2012/11/19/linus-torvalds-laptops-should-have-better-resolution/
The only company that pushes out those insane resolutions on some of their laptops is Apple, with their 15" MacBook Pro 2880 x 1800 res @ 220 ppi and the 13" 2560-by-1600 laptop @ 227 ppi.
Dell has been offering ubuntu for some PCs for quite a while.

It's barebones minimum these days. You can't go any lower.
Annoying shit is that they're sold for size and who gives a fuck about size if it's the same resolution.
If that's the cost of a good solid laptop, then I see why people pay it.
I'm fucking sick of:
* Shitty trackpads
* Shitty keyboards
* Shitty build quality
* Shitty materials (shitty glossy plastic spray painted so after 2 years of wear and tear half your laptop changes colour)
* Shitty bloatware
* Shitty drivers
* Shitty displays that are outperformed by fucking mobile phones.
* Shitty battery life, holy fuck is windows inefficient, and Linux is no better either.
exactly, the entire Ultra book scene was Intel's attempts to make other OEM's match the quality of Macbooks, and it still has a ways to go (it seems every hyped up Ultrabook ends up having some sorta of glaring flaw that a Macbook doesn't have)
Its as if Apple are the only company that has a bit of pride in their products, nobody else gives the slightest shit.
Apple has pride in making their product aesthetics nice looking and the hardware they choose.
However iMacs idle at around 40c to 50c which is terrible and not healthy for it's components. They inevitably fail and have to be kept on a applecare plan.
Why is this anything special? Do you get a price drop for using Ubuntu? Because if I ever wanted Ubuntu or whatever Linux flavor on there I'd just install it myself.
Worst offender I've ever seen though was a 17 inch laptop with that resolution.
Wasn't a laptop, but I saw a 29 inch LCD monitor at this resolution a year or two ago at staples. I think I sprouted a fully fledged neckbeard in rage.

I think I'd almost pop an artery if I saw that.
Now if it was just a TV screen then that's somewhat acceptable, because low-end TVS are just 720P or 1366x768.
