LONDON (AP) — Britain isn't divulging the exact reason behind its decision to raise its terror alert level from "substantial" to "severe" -- the second highest level.
The new alert means the government considers a terrorist attack highly likely. Home Secretary Alan Johnson says while Britain is heightening its vigilance, there's no intelligence suggesting an attack is imminent.
Johnson isn't saying whether the move has anything to do with the failed Christmas Day bombing aboard a Detroit-bound jetliner, or what intelligence it's based on.
He says the decision was based on a range of factors, including the "intent and capabilities of international terrorist groups in the U.K. and overseas."
The move comes just days after Britain suspended direct flights to Yemen's capital in response to the growing threat from al-Qaida-affiliated militants there.
You're right, a potential terror attack on the uk is absolutely hilarious, no really.
Oh look, the Government are trying to fear monger the people of the UK into thinking that there was a major terrorism problem, and then the Labour Government somehow fixes it and looks like heroes and so they have a better chance of getting voted in again in the upcoming general election which Labour will lose if they don't do anything about it. Nothing to see here, nothing to worry about, move on and worry about Scientology or something actually dangerous.
Is there an election coming up?
Zee gamez....Zey begin :drac:
fucking ninjas

That's a very convoluted way to get votes.
We'll win.
edit; labour will win
many votes
Frightening news.
I don't see how.

I stopped understanding you after the first comma.
But yeah, it's probably just fear mongering.
Compare to swine flu and the like. Judging by how that thing was pushed by the media and governments we'd all be dead by now.
I don't see how.
Because you live in California :smug:
Nothing is going to happen, just watch.
Are you sure it's not the Nazi Vampire alert?
...we're all fucked
Is there an election coming up?
Yeah there is and I hope Labour get kicked out.
I don't see how.
I was making the semi-obligatory In The News pun. Plus, genuinely, it's concerning to know that some people think there is a risk of a terror attack of course.
Nothing is going to happen, just watch.
No, most likely something in The UK will be exploded by Muslims who are being paid by the Government, in order to start a war with <Insert Middle Eastern Country Name Here> to steal the Oil and look like heroes.
Its only gone up because Gordon Brown dropped his pork pie, he is stomping around west minister like a troll.

There is always a risk.

Well, yeah. But even if there WAS a terrorist attack you'd be more likely to die in a car crash, probably.

Or just muslims bent on taking over the UK e.g. Islam4UK
Well, yeah. But even if there WAS a terrorist attack you'd be more likely to die in a car crash, probably.
It's true, but realistically I'm more likely to die of almost anything then be killed in a terrorist attack, the fear is in that it might happen to someone you know. Anything that increases your risk of dying you should be scared of. So in future, run from fast food, it's the only way!

I swear it seems like every other post you've made today has the phrase "fear mongering" in it.
