great but syria is still butchering their civilians and those rebels will just join other groups that are less west friendly.
Honestly the best thing to do is let them do their thing and wait for a lutharian style reformation/revolution in islam to happen on its own when people get sick of islam's shit Let's not forget that Persian and Ottoman culture was once the intellectual center of the world. Because at the time, the europeans were the religious fundies with the endless internal wars, and the islamic world was the one reforming their religious rule, forming secular societies and rejecting traditionalism. Turkey was specifically founded to be a secular islamic state. That sure ain't the case now, but to say that this is how it always has and always will be is forgetting some important history. Also i'd like to note that while looking up the name of the islamic reforming in the ottoman empire, the very first result on google was "why islam doesn't need reformation", from a leading english newspaper.
Unfortunately our wonderful ally Turkey will never allow it
Well Trump apparently wants us out of NATO so that wouldn't matter.
Hey, he's doing something good. Nice.
great but syria is still butchering their civilians and those rebels will just join other groups that are less west friendly.
And we aren't helping with airstrikes and giving weapons to "moderates" who then use those weapons on civilians or other rebel groups. If deposing Assad was the original objective of our intervention we should have dropped a Tomahawk on his head and landed ground troops to pacify the area and maintained an occupation until a sufficiently stable state could be established. Instead, as with Libya, we have taken this policy of using air power and supporting groups on the ground that we are told are trustworthy then, surprise, turns out they are the same or worse than the assholes we wanted to get rid of. Either intervene and do so with overwhelming military force to accomplish an objective or don't intervene at all and let them sort out their problems the old fashioned way. [editline]12th November 2016[/editline]
There is no evidence that a rebel victory will result in a Syrian democracy, just and transparent.
The overwhelming evidence of states toppled by violent revolution has shown that a stable, fair democracy almost never happens. Even less so when you have several outside players trying to influence events.
I wonder how CroGamer would have reacted to this.
Honestly, this is great but I feel bad for the chance of there being an independent Kurdistan dying along with US support to rebels.
.01% improvement on my opinion of Trump. Let's see if he can make it to 100% by the end of his term.
maybe Trump's strategy is to hit rock bottom before his presidency even starts, that way the only way he can go is up.
maybe Trump's strategy is to hit rock bottom before his presidency even starts, that way the only way he can go is up.
Working so far.
Working so far.
Bitterly, reluctantly, I agree.
Only thing this policy of constant foreign interventionism for the sake of brownie points has earned France was a bunch of terrorist attacks and mass psychosis. Let's just get the fuck out of this cesspool and actually focus on helping ourselves before we help them.
great but syria is still butchering their civilians and those rebels will just join other groups that are less west friendly.
And you give a fuck about this, why?
Is US contribution even that big to begin with so that its absence will have an impact on rebel's offensive capabilities? I mean, Saudis aren't gonna stop just because America stops, they'll continue sending weaponry and ammunition. But I think it's one nice thing that Trump has promised to do, hopefully more will come since he seems to back away from some of the terrible-terrible shit he's said.
About fucking time, I hope he also understands that applying restrictions and sactions on countries that are under a war, then bitching because food and medicine not being available isn't a good fucking idea
Honestly, this is great but I feel bad for the chance of there being an independent Kurdistan dying along with US support to rebels.
Pretty sure Trump is a big fan of the Kurds, during one of the debates he called them our best allies in Syria and Iraq, at least as far as fighting ISIS goes. Whether he'd support them all the way to statehood (and the shitstorm it'd cause with their neighbors) is another question altogether though.
