Adam Fisk, 22, posted a five-minute clip of his adventure titled "Lone Man Gets Towed for Miles in Kayak by 11 Foot Hammerhead Shark." At one point, Fisk dunked the camera into the water and recorded the shark swimming ahead of the kayak. A student at Florida Atlantic University, Fisk set out in a kayak on Sunday with several poles to go fishing before the shark took his bait near Boynton Beach, Florida "I threw my bait out and went to reel my other one in so I wouldnt get tangled, and I just had time to pick up the rod before the other one already got picked up by that hammer," Fisk wrote on the YouTube site. "It must have been sitting right under me and I had no idea." Fisk is a member of Team Rebel Fishing, a group of extreme anglers, according to its website. The group estimated Fisk was dragged by the shark for 12 miles. Fisk told Reuters that the ride started out smoothly but turned frightening when the shark twice reversed course. Why not... you know... let go?
Why not... you know... let go?
A man and his bond with his pole; I guess
Why not... you know... let go?
No fisherman I know would ever give up his rod.
^ They are a group of rebels who fish for extreme anglers, why would they give up when they're that hardcore?
I would definitely feel a bit vulnerable doing that without an outrigger...
Just cut the line?
Fuck that, joyriding a shark sounds a lot more fun once you are finished with the fear-shitting that will obviously occur.
Just cut the line?
Depending on what you're fishing for, some of those lures and hooks and such can be really damned expensive.
young man and the sea
Depending on what you're fishing for, some of those lures and hooks and such can be really damned expensive.
Yeah, good luck recovering your hook after it got tangled in a shark's jaw
that fucker forgot to pay me
That's a pretty common thing when you catch a fish the size of your boat.
"A whole new wooooorld!"
Imagine how painful that would be. A hook stuck in your mouth, and you're pulling a Man + Kayak by it
Shark rights are human rights. I for one, welcome our new shark overlords.
Yeah, good luck recovering your hook after it got tangled in a shark's jaw
The hook isn't the spendy part. Depending on what you're fishing for the ideal setup is generally lure/flasher and bait/hook a little farther down the line.
I wonder if that shark got bored at that time.
Just cut the line?
and lose your lures, line, and have your reel turn into a birdsnest? Fuck that. You hold onto that catch until your drag runs out or your gears lose their teeth. [editline]31st March 2014[/editline]
Imagine how painful that would be. A hook stuck in your mouth, and you're pulling a Man + Kayak by it
I've always heard that fish can't feel pain. Donno how true that is.
Its entirety possible to retrieve your hook from a shark. Might be difficult on a kayak with a large shark like that. Many kayak fishermen I've seen on youtube just cut the hook off if its too big. Never been shark fishing myself so I can't say for sure.
What if the Shark just decided it had enough of that shit, turned around and tried to wreck the Kayak?
What if the Shark just decided it had enough of that shit, turned around and tried to wreck the Kayak?
We wouldn't be having this discussion then.
Fisk is fish in Swedish. The more you know!
Holy shit. Imagine if this happened at night
Why would you be fishing in a kayak at night?
Why would you be fishing in a kayak at night?
"They are a group of rebels who fish for extreme anglers" hardcore fisherman
I've always heard that fish can't feel pain. Donno how true that is.
Sharks are elasmobranchs. they don't have many unmyelinated nerves. Basically, even though they've got all of the fancy lateral line electrodetection shit their nervous system is really way more simple than a human's, and they don't really posess the ability to feel pain. They're scary fuckers.
Why not... you know... let go?
Some of those poles can hundreds of dollars
Even the sharks are nicer than the people in Florida.
And that's a good reason to bring a knife so you can cut the line.
And that's a good reason to bring a knife so you can cut the line.
or be a fucking man and fight the shark
The ability to feel pain is essential sensory feedback to keep the body safe from harm. I have no idea where this "X animal can't feel pain" crap came from but it's, well, crap.
Only certain species feel pain, but for the most part: Telegraph Fish be dumb.
