Prototypes are already being tested with a view to launch by next year, the PTI news agency said. Indian authorities say millions of homes are needed in rural areas. The company is in discussion with state governments, the agency said. "It is [a] quick house built in seven days if you have a patch of land. Basic model of 20 sq metres, with flat roof will cost around 500 euros (32,000 rupees; £440)," Sumitesh Das, Tata Steel's head of global research is quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency. The company is also creating plans for slightly larger and more expensive houses, with facilities such as solar panels, according to the Times of India newspaper. The company says it is in discussion with state governments and village councils, but plans are at an early stage and it is unclear if the supply chain for building materials for the houses are in place or if the relevant authorities will find the models suitable. Pheh, there's already been one developed a long time ago. It's called a really big box.
Pheh, there's already been one developed a long time ago. It's called a really big box.
But that requires buying a fridge, and where would you put the fridge if your new house is no bigger than the fridge itself?
I'm going to buy one of these, and put it in my back yard. Then I will have my own little apartment. You guys are all invited to my housewarming party.
India, leader in making things dirt cheap.
India, leader in making things dirt cheap.
China's gonna hate.
China's gonna hate.
I think they're more like going to copy the houses then build their "own cheap houses"
Private sector saves india!
Seriously, Tata owns at least 1/3 of all of the molecules in India. From the internet to automobiles to hotels the Tata group has ridiculous amounts of money.
Holy shit, I could buy property in India!
Wow, I was in Inida not too long ago, those Tata cars were everywhere because of how cheap they were, now they houses are going to fill up the entire country.
Tata is an awesome company, they made the cheapest car and now the cheapest homes. and the founders had a great taste in art too.
I think they're more like going to copy the houses then build their "own cheap houses"
It'll just have a big red star on the roof, and the paint will peal off and the supports would be made of lead.
Didn't ikea do this, or plan to like 5 years ago?
