There's gay rights, then there's the 'stuff we right-wingers warned you about'. There's no need to make everything too gay, or at least so its out of context.

(G)A(y)mazing SpiderMan 2 [editline]11th July 2013[/editline] like first movie wasn't enough gay
Fuck that. Leave Spider-Man alone. If you want to have a gay superhero (or a superhero movie with gay elements) then just produce a Midnighter movie.
Why is this such a big deal. What the fuck.
There's just no point in it really. I know the message would reach a wider audience through a Spiderman movie. But really, why not create a new superhero with his/her own story? Hell, a new character who has a lot struggles based on modern day issues would get mad respect, I'm sure. Spiderman and Mary Jane is a classic coupling, and while I'm not going to argue about cannon (because I know it's basically nonexistent at this point), that seems to be one thing that stays true for the series.
Why is this a problem with everyone. Or am I crazy? I mean shit I guess you could do a side universe. I just feel like it'd be forced.
good use of homosexuality in film Brokeback mountain Weekend this would be no such thing
Why not have her be a trap. The rule 34 community would have a field day.

Their backstory, their personality, costumes, where they live, how their powers work, sometimes what those powers are. Sexuality is an extremely minor change, especially when romance isn't at the forefront of superhero movie plots.
this is such a dumb idea. it would literally just make them like the old spider man movies in how bad it would become.
The only way I'd be happy about this if it were Toby Maguire
Larry Jane? Barry Jane? Harry Jane?
Gary Kane Gary Bane Gary Payne
The whole "let's turn random super heroes gay to endorse gay rights" is getting a bit out of hand. I mean it's fine but you don't have to make it a plot point, let alone retcon parts of a character for it. im all for this
I'm pro gay rights but come on, this shit is starting to become a little forced.
i don't think any right-wingers were warning people about superheroes becoming gay unless they were getting oddly specific in their slippery slope arguments
It was sarcasm involving their slippery slope arguments involving the corruption of youth and all that crap.
Gary Jane should be played by tobey mcguire then.

That's some tumblr fanfiction shit right there
Ah come on film makers, I want a live-action Mary Jane that was portrayed accurately for once because Raimi's MJ was more like Gwen Stacy and that Gwen Stacy was more like MJ. Obviously there is nothing wrong with gay superheroes and an elseworlds universe where Spider-Man is gay and/or bisexual gets a greenlight from me but the movies are mostly following the source material from the main continuity and maybe some from the second most popular universe. It's the reason why Man of Steel didn't have a Soviet Superman or an aged Superman with a bitchin black and red S shield who was mourning the death of Lois Lane. Unlike Superman, Spider-Man's character has remained fairly consistent throughout his history and Mary Jane Watson is one of the most if not the most important side character to his stories and I just want her to be done right. Maybe you could a little 'exploring sexuality' subplot with Peter but to make Mary Jane Watson into a guy? Nah, it'd be too much of a waste of an opportunity to show off MJ in a more accurate/'true' form for me.
at most they'd probably just hold hands because i can see it being a huge unnecessary shitstorm otherwise
Mary Jane should be a weed needle and spidey should be a strung out junkie and it should be a story of addiction. But all of the trailers should be standard super hero trailers.

they can do this if they do it right (which they won't because this is Hollywood we are talking about) and since these are adaptations of comic books, well this can just be the more unusual adaption/interpretation. After all the movies are only for more mainstream/casual audiences, it won't be like it changes the comics or all future spider man related things
I don't see the point in spiderman exploring his sexuality when in the first movie he's had a raging hard on for Mary. I mean, did you see the night rain scene where he kissed her? Tits were showing through the shirt. I don't think many o men would suddenly explore after that.
You're thinking of the other series of movies. I don't think I would mind them doing it honestly, but I highly doubt they will and I'm betting that if they do it's not gonna work very well simply cuz they will probably shoehorn it. I don't have a problem with filmmakers trying new things with the characters, I mean think about Batman. So many of his memorable moments were because of changes and additions made from Batman The Animated Series. It's worth trying new things with characters, especially since the films and tv shows generally are never direct adaptations.
Honestly, it bugs me when they warps concepts of a character like that. And it only seems to happen with comic book characters. Was Spiderman written at the comics as homosexual? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he wasn't. So why would you write him to be. If they made an original character and made him gay? I don't care. But don't change aspects of a character to suit you.
