Mary Jane should be a weed needle and spidey should be a strung out junkie and it should be a story of addiction. But all of the trailers should be standard super hero trailers.
Weed needle?
while we are at it lets make Captain America gay!
I'd be here to see Chris Evans and Downey Jr. kissing each other in the next Avengers.
Wasn't there that new Spider-Man comic that made Peter Parker a black kid and he was also gay?
No, it was part of the Ultimate universe. Peter Parker actually died in that world, and a new kid named Miles Moralez took the Spider-Man title. It was rumored he was going to be gay, but he's not. Ultimate is basically their experiment universe where they try riskier things, it's pretty much the whole reason Peter Parker's dead as a doornail in all the comics now. I mean i guess he's technically alive in the main universe, but it's Doctor Octopus in his body so
while we are at it lets make Captain America gay!
Dude Civil War was just Captain America and Iron Man having a huge break up. Hell even Marvel admitted it was a Breakup Story.
You're thinking of the other series of movies. I don't think I would mind them doing it honestly, but I highly doubt they will and I'm betting that if they do it's not gonna work very well simply cuz they will probably shoehorn it. I don't have a problem with filmmakers trying new things with the characters, I mean think about Batman. So many of his memorable moments were because of changes and additions made from Batman The Animated Series. It's worth trying new things with characters, especially since the films and tv shows generally are never direct adaptations.
Yeah but some of the things would better sometimes if you did an accurate portrayal of a character in a film, especially if that character is a very popular one. It's the reason why Jor-El wasn't a talking bagel or a green animated suitcase.
I can understand when you do that with a reboot from the get go but this is the second installment of the rebooted universe and he's already had a female romance so what's the point ?
Sounds like he slings both ways.

Is everyone pretty much forgetting that Electro is black in this? Despite never being portrayed as such in the comics? Does that really make much difference to his character? No, he's still Electro. Making MJ a guy wouldn't kill her, in my opinion, if he was still basically Mary Jane. You know, except with a penis. Granted I doubt it would end up being done well in the movie if they tried it, but as a huge fan of spider-man and his comics, I don't really see the fuss in it.
Are people really upset about this? An off-hand comment by an actor, not the producer, writer, or director, an actor. A comment that really comes down to; you know would the story of spider-man really be any different if he was in to guys? (Hint: it wouldn't) Not only that but Mary Jane has already been cast so there is literally no reason to be remotely upset about about a movie changing a character who already has been changed several times and will continue to change.

Also, the thing about Jor-El is that the purpose of his character wouldn't be changed even if he was a talking bagel but comic book accuracy in a movie is something that the film makers shouldn't shy away from doing. EDIT: Plus, Electro isn't Mary Jane. Their levels in comic book relevancy and popularity (both within mainstream and comic book fandom) are drastic in comparison. It's harder to make big changes to characters that are high up in that chain.
The big issue with actually making gay characters is that right now the comic book industry can't handle writing good homosexual characters without making them walking stereotypes, and making their sexuality the entire center of everything concerning them. See Northstar and Ultimate colossus. Or rawhide kid. Oh god rawhide kid.

She's pretty much already casted for the movie so I wouldn't worry about them making her a dude. I'm kinda impartial to the whole thing, I mean if they made Marty Jake have the same character as Mary Jane and did him well, I don't really see it as a big difference. I mean, gay peter would still be peter wouldn't he? I dunno thats my opinion on it anyway. Edit: It's harder but it's certainly not impossible. It's been done well occasionally in the comics. Currently the Miles Moralez spider-man in the comics has actually turned out to be a really good character in the Ultimate universe. So, seeing that, big changes with good results are not impossible to me.

I guess I'm a bit more emotional to this because MJ is one of my favorite characters. Peter would be stil be Peter even if he were gay/bisexual/straight but I would prefer some more accuracy in these films before other films having bigger changes with important characters such as sexuality and gender. Edit: Yeah but main continuity=/=alternate continuity. Same thing with Soviet Superman in Red Son and Superman in All Star Superman being very different characters to Pre-Flashpoint Superman. Other examples being Earth 2 Superman being dead and that universe's Green Lantern being gay. They can work great but making Superman soviet or making him sick with sun cancer in the main continuity within the New 52 would not have gone well with the fans at all.

I've just been more okay with change in general I guess. I've always been okay with changes in general cuz I like seeing what people like, come up with for the character I suppose? Heh, fun fact about that, they actually killed Peter off in the mainstream continuity. Doc Ock legit became the new spider-man, and they call it Superior Spider-Man now because he's basically trying to be a better spidey than peter was. EDIT: The comics honestly fuck around so much in general in the main continuity of spider-man besides that though, I mean peter's gone through college, he's taught at college, he's become a science professor, shit like that. I think that's one reason why I dont really find issue with changes cuz I read the comics a lot and they've REALLY deviated from what people consider the base canon for it. It just kinda happens when you have such old characters. Hell, Flash Thompson became Venom and he works for the government. And THAT'S MAINSTREAM CONTINUITY (to be honest I actually think it's pretty cool though)
Gary Jane should be Peter Parker's long-lost brother. Then the internet would have a field day.

But if Parker could come out okay out of the clone saga, he can come out of this. Besides, as a Superman fan I had to deal with the Death of Superman, Mullet Superman, Superman Beyond and eugh...Superman Red and Blue. I know that the Spider-Man I know and love will be back...somehow. Plus I believe that one of the main appeals of Spider-Man is that the lack of a definite status quo to his character and his universe. He was created to be relatable to the young comic book reader during his era. And like them, he grew out of high school, went to college, needed to find jobs, got married and etc...
because having a gay spiderman is "hurr durr SHOEHORNED hurr durr NOT FITTING" because spiderman has never been gay, i guess [editline]10th July 2013[/editline] there are like 50 different universes with spiderman how could having one of them be gay NOT be a thing?
I dont know about you but Peter was craving for that Gwen Stacy pussy in the first movie.
I dont know about you but Peter was craving for that Gwen Stacy pussy in the first movie.
If MJ was a guy, we would need to have that scene from the comics. Except MJ being a guy. Peter tries to avoid the 'nice kid' next door Aunt May wants him to meet but eventually he meets a guy that makes him question his sexuality. They could easily work it into the Marc Webb films if they really wanted to but...I've stated my reasons before.
Aww come on, Stick to the comics man. I rather have Mary Jane than having the director doing something that would risk losing a lot of fans. Show the original source material some respect.
I wouldn't mind this. Not at all. [editline]11th July 2013[/editline] Especially if it's Michael b jordan.
now i'm all for gay rights but the 30 minute gay gangbang scene in the dark knight rises was a little bit much [editline]10th July 2013[/editline]
good use of homosexuality in film Brokeback mountain Weekend this would be no such thing
"good" use of homosexuality? does this imply there are good and bad uses of heterosexuality? wtf
Normally I'd be pretty bothered by this since I was a huge fan of spiderman growing up, but after seeing the first movie I'm not really interested in it anyway. So what the hell, it would at least peak my curiosity enough to get me to go see it.
I see nothing wrong with this, as long as Spiderman is SpiderWoman To be honest, the only time I've really seen a good use of homosexuality, despite my stance one the issue, was in a MLP Fan fic called Fallout Equestria. Anything Mainstream, blows as they usually get it wrong and possibly make things worse for all sides

why does there have to be some weird justification for gay people in movies? why can't gay people just exist like they do in real life
why does there have to be some weird justification for gay people in movies? why can't gay people just exist like they do in real life
I think the 'justification' argument comes from the idea of changing a straight character into a gay character, especially with a big film that should ideally follow most of the basic source material.
why does there have to be some weird justification for gay people in movies? why can't gay people just exist like they do in real life
because they don't stand out enough unless they explisivly do something. Sexual orientation doesn't stand out like race and gender do.
