probably get them smaller framed guns in the same caliber it'd certainly be cheaper than a £70,000 lawsuit
I think they use Glock full size pistols, based on that lawsuit article. There are smaller ones, but they have pretty much the same grip dimensions.
The problem is Glock's double-stack magazine that necessitates a thick handgrip. Magazine holding around 15 cartridges is only useful in an extended firefight, and how common are those in UK anyway? This isn't sexual discrimination, but discrimination against small people, if you can even apply that to police. In Finland there is minimum size requirement to be a police officer.
I still think police should get into researching arm mounted weaponry, you'd have to be literally disarmed to drop it, you can pull it out faster, and there's no chance of wrist damage.
This is actually a good thing in certain respects. If women are cautious with firearm usage, this would mean they would most likely try diplomatic channels regarding situations.
.. What? That's kind of a fucking retarded leap. If a situation calls for the usage of a firearm then it's usually passed long beyond the point of diplomacy. In the UK far from every officer is allowed to carry firearms, this is talking specifically about specialized units trained to carry firearms, not just trigger-happy day cops like the US. [editline]5th April 2014[/editline] Like, to elaborate, usually in the UK armed police are only stationed at areas which require armed guard (such as airports, nuclear facilities, areas where gun crime has been recent etc) and if they're called in it's usually for something serious, and probably has long flown past the democratic route.
I've only once seen a cop carry a gun, and at that point I was within 10 meters of the king of Norway :v:
The only I've seen were at Singapore Airport, those scary mofos walk around in pairs with either P90's or SAR 21's.

I see why you'd want a lot of women in the police force in general, but really don't see why it'd matter if it's a man or a woman once you get to the armed response unit. At that point, diplomacy has failed, and it's a very real chance that a trigger or two has to be pulled. Public relations and such are dead at that point.
"Diplomatic channels" don't exactly work when you've got a raving lunatic waving around a knife.
I was watching COPS once and they had a guy on PCP who literally lunged 20 feet at a group of cops. Never seen a guy get mowed down by that many guns before.
Why she isn´t joining them then.
she becoming a PSO officer

If you call the police because you see someone with a gun, the armed response will be the first to show up to try and talk them into dropping the weapon [editline]5th April 2014[/editline]
The problem is Glock's double-stack magazine that necessitates a thick handgrip.
I've never seen a gun in real life and I'm 22
Try taking a stroll around the american embassy in Delhi. Was pretty standard to see indian police armed with submachineguns standing around. And I recall seeing armed police at the borders of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Though this was in 2006 or so.
