I'm afraid the global threat of their actions is rael.
As long as Europe stays out of this.

Wow I'm a cognitive drunk, this is great!
Do any of you think that Israel (or any other country) should not act to prevent the chemical weapons from falling into the wrong hands?
Why can't we fight on the same side as Russia once or twice. It would be nice if they would reverse their policy and join the US in a joint operation in Syria. I don't particularly want to get into another conflict, but the Syrians could use a hand, better relations with Russia will make future conflicts in the region easier to resolve, and financially it seems like increasing trade with Russia would be lucrative on both sides.
Russia has their own minor states to fuck around with.
I think Russia would prefer their influence go down in flames now rather than embarrass themselves and try to pretend they never meant sell Assad weapons just so that they can compete with America for the favour of post-revolution Syria.
It's like the OP didn't even read the fucking title of the article.
He was busy writing Tom Clancy fan-fiction.
Russia WILL help Iran, if for nothing else than the simple geographic fact that they share a border and don't particularly like Israel.
russia is actually sort of pretty cool with israel
not nearly to the same level as the us is, but then again, who could beat that
To clarify some large political issues:
Israel attacks Syria. Syria is backed by Iran. Iran is backed by Russia. Russia is backed by China. Israel is backed by the USA. USA is backed by NATO. For anyone who took a history class in high school, the term 'Powder Keg' is an apt description for whats happening right now.

this isn't WWI
very sort of
Honestly seems like people here want WW3 happen, what with damn near every military event in the Middle East being seen as a catalyst for it. Am I the only one who think that, no matter how much the US and China+Russia dislike each other, they'd never go to war (which, considering they're the 3 largest military powers in the world, would be utterly devastating for everyone) over some loony Middle Eastern despot?
What have they got to gain from it? Assad staying in power? Like they couldn't find another buyer for their military hardware.
What have they got to lose from war with each other? Damn near everything.
everybody on FP wants the world to end so they can crete their own post-apocalyptic utopia
one that will collapse immediately once gun control is mentioned

Like that Tom Clancy novel where China attacks Russia and Russia becomes a full member of NATO?
I'm afraid the global threat of their actions is rael.
Now now, let's not go russian to any conslusions.
It's funny because they hated each other's guts. Cue Mao and Khrushchev at the pool story. They would never back each other over Iran. People don't realise how close they were to nuking each other.
It went so far that the Chinese actually armed and trained the Mujahideen in Afghanistan to fight against the Soviets. It's funny how people think they're friendly with each other when the United States was working hand-in-hand with them to wreck the Soviets in one of their first foreign campaigns in a long time.

Times have changed.

Russia is also it's main arms supplier and supplies over half of their military. There's also the fact that China gets a majority of their energy and fuel from Russia.

China will most definitely not attack us. We're their biggest economic asset. And Russia is unlikely to even get involved because they don't want to fuck with NATO.

You know whats an even bigger economic asset? Becoming the most militarily powerful nation on earth. Who needs money when your military can take whatever you want? Look at the USA, that's how we've been doing it.
If something DOES come of this, here's what will probably happen between the U.S. and Russia.
Obama: Putin, do you want to get involved?
Putin: Not really.
Obama: Same.
Putin: Do you want to watch them slug it out?
Obama: Sure.
Putin: Want any popcorn?
Obama: Yes please. Extra butter! :v:
Hey, I have no issue with Congress doing something useful for once (leaving).

The USA is surpassed by the far less militarily capable rest of the first world in just about everything important.

Let me contain my laughter as you proceed to outline what the important issues are.

Yeah, we see how the US is defending itself across the sea.
Reminds me of Peter Struck "Wir müssen Detuschland am Hindukusch verteidigen". Hahahahahahahahaha oh god

don't forget the miracle weapon JSOWs
it isn't like a proxy war would result in nuclear war. several proxy wars happened during the cold war and we lived through it.
But there were several really, really, really, REALLY close calls that sometimes did depend on one man to prevent the world going down the road to third world war.

Was it Mason?
Was it Mason?
There were several people in different times.
Like that one russian commander who didn't report to moscov when he saw several nuclear missiles incoming in the radar (which, afterwards, was proven to be a malfunction). And one british commander refused to carry out an order to attack a soviet-held airport in one certain conflict etc etc.
During the Cuban missile crisis, one Russian sub commander almost nuked the US based on incorrect information.
Yeah we learned from WWI, otherwise we might have had a WWII-
Oh wait
EDIT: War makes for strange bedfellows. If the USA got involved in a global conflict, don't you think it would use that opportunity to kill the people holding its debt?
It's blatantly clear you're just dying for another war.

What about the people who almost ended the world? Like that bear that broke into a air base which ended up with nuclear-armed jets scrambled (and thankfully called off before they managed to leave the runway) :v:
