it is the same thing

Yeah this isnt racist at all
its ok though because white people are priviliged
You're right but I disagree with the way you justify the sins of the Qing. They were horrible rulers that were exceptionally brutal. Many people seem to hold the European Imperialists to a higher standard when for the most part, they were never as brutal.
Just curious but do you think that people should never learn to forgive? I think the world would be a worse place if the French, English and Germans still hated eachother to this day.
I wouldn't say I justify the sins of the Qing, I'd just make the point that every empire will inevitably commit some sort of atrocity. In China, largely, the Qing were very laissez faire when it came to the people and what they did, provided they weren't going against Confucian principles or in open uprising. Their brutality also notably softens as the regime ages and they move away from their nomadic conqueror roots. By the time of the Opium war you have emperors who haven't learned anything of the Manchu ways and are so intent on peace they appease the foreigners to avoid conflict.
I think you might have misread that quote btw. It's directly from my lecturer and what she means is that we should always learn to forgive, and that everyone is in some way culpable for the sins of the past (the Chinese example being that everyone smoked opium, even the emperor, and resultantly nothing was done to stop the trade). It's obvious that we should forgive people who have committed atrocities in the past, provided they've learned from it and are obviously making an effort to make genuine reparations.
Did I just read 7 pages of the most elaborate trolling in facepunch history?
Why is anyone even debating the value of the art, they destroyed property that did not belong to them, plain and simple. It could be the ugliest piece of modern art ever made and it'd still be wrong to destroy it if it wasn't yours.
I used to think I was left wing and liberal and I don't even feel that my views have changed at all but now I seem to hold the views of right wingers, how did this even happen?

And THEY would tell you "b-but racism."
I wanna make a joke about this but since that would likely come across as racist, I'll suffice to say that this whole situation is fucking retarded.

It happened to me too, albeit a year or so ago now. This rise of authoritarian liberalism has been going on for ages and most people have only really just started noticing.
This is just some class A vandalism.

That because your ideas failed the reality test. Right wing ideas don't hold up as well when put under the same scrutiny either.
Sobotnik however brings up an interesting point.
This might be the prelude to genocide.
That is a bigger concern over art being burned.
I hope this does not become a thing in the west. We've worked so hard to achieve the level of equality we have, would be a shame to see the scale tip around and everything gone to waste.

I am going say something unpopular. Equality is not possible, not as long there are differences.
I am going say something unpopular. Equality is not possible, not as long there are differences.
If you're going to say something unpopular, why not back it up with an argument or two?
I am going say something unpopular. Equality is not possible, not as long there are differences.
That's just the way things are. Some people are just better than others in different ways.
That's just the way things are. Some people are just better than others in different ways.
I don't see how that's relevant though? Having different skin color does not make you better or worse in any way. The whole point of equality is that you're judged based on your individuality, not factors that have absolutely no relevance like race or gender.
People are not equal, that's normal. But race should not be a merit to define if you're better or worse than someone else.

No one better or worse then other.
Not what I meant. What I meant as long people identify as "I am black" and "I am white" and can see the other group as "They are black" or "they are white", they will not identify with the whole.
Conflict will arise.
I have brought up the idea of encouraging multi racial marriages encouraged through tax incentives. This would encourage a higher chance of multiple racial children. People said no to the idea. However, this approach would erode the boundaries of the two groups. Thus no longer "I am black and them whities are the problems" or the reverse. They become one group, thus no more conflict.
Except until that mixed group starts to claim superiority over those who are not mixed.
It's just as dumb of an idea as when you first said it.

So you have a better idea?
I mean the current way seems to guaranteed to make racism come full circle.
If you're going to burn something, at least make sure it's not valuable, historically significant, or shares your SAME point of view...
"Don't join the book burners. Don't think you're going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Don't be afraid to go in your library and read every book..."

If they'll burn art, they'll burn people.

Reparations for something they never did?

Having institutions judge people based on their race and encouraging specific races seems like it'd inspire racism.
A lot of people, especially the "You can't be racist against Whites bruh" crowd don't realize that this isn't Europe or the United States. This is in South Africa, where Whites actually are an oppressed minority, like being Black in the 50's. There are people being murdered because they're white, I've heard that white farmers are in extreme danger because they're out of the law's reach when the lynch mob shows up. I used to have a friend who lives there, lost contact with him awhile back, but when I did talk to him he told me what a shit-show the place was. He also told me his mother whom he claimed was one of the few not corrupt police officers, was denied advancement because she was white while officers on criminal payrolls got them.
I have brought up the idea of encouraging multi racial marriages encouraged through tax incentives.
This is fucking stupid.
It's racist, it puts the government squarely in the middle of something they should not be a part of, and propagates this plebian idea that "I can't be racist because of my relations".
I can see why people said no. The idea is really stupid. It's like giving tax relief to companies for hiring minorities. It's bad practice overall. It fucks over people who do not match the criteria and gives bonuses to people who are already in the field who match that criteria.
And long term even if it was a success, I don't see how having mixed race people would solve anything. Unless you mean that everyone will be mixed, which will not happen, resulting in minority groups either way.

You have a very, very strange understanding of how humans work dude. This is like something an alien pretending to be a human would say lol

Whites are awful, and their rule is terrible. Just look at how awful rhodesia was before it became zimbabwe

I have read your statements and I assume your position is of the left. This denouncement of my idea is hypocritical of you if this is true. How was affirmative action achieved? Through judgement on race by the government. How was equality in south Africa achieved? On race and through the actions of the government.
My view is this, as long there are differences, there will be conflict and inequality. The key to ending this is through eroding said differences.

Any one who does not think exactly like me must not be human, thus worthy of derision.

You are a wonderful beacon of progress. My point is the current means of achieving equality has failed and is not working. At least I am trying to come up with new ideas. You are not.
who cares
...Did you just skip over seven whole pages of many people vehemently caring to go "Who cares"?
