He will be locked in a padded cell for the rest of his life.
Someone didn't read the article. [editline]24th May 2012[/editline] People who think this guy should be in jail disgust me.
Actually when someone's getting beheaded in front of you, you get frozen in fear/confusion/surprise. Bystander effect doesn't really apply here. PLUS the man was dangerous.
probably a bit of both, even if I could think in that situation I probably wouldn't be too eager to disarm the guy beheading someone
imagine a schizophrenic guy/girl with alzheimers, would the alzheimers like cancel out the schizophrenia
My grandma actually had both, believe it or not. She had a case where she thought the FBI was tapping our phones and had our landline marked as Unlisted, but she eventually forgot and it kept appearing then going.
I still think not guilty by reason of insanity is some bullshit, even if they don't know what they're doing at the time. They most likely know they have insanity in some way or shape; they should adapt their life to it if possible (which is probably hard).
and that, kids, is how you go full retard
Does anyone have any links to evidence that schizophrenia is actually physically observable as a difference in the brain or it's chemical configuration and not just based on the observation and moral judgement of psychiatrist/psychologist? Just curious.

They most likely know they have insanity in some way or shape; they should adapt their life to it if possible (which is probably hard). That's just my stupid opinion, and I feel it's biased as hell. [editline]24th May 2012[/editline] He could've gotten some help before it got out of hand.
Well you clearly don't know you're ignorant. And that's easier to fix what with the largest source of information in the world - the internet - in front of you.

Just curious.
observation is a gigantic part of diagnosis and moral judgement doesn't even have anything to do with it what causes it is quite irrelevant until you get into actually curing it, all that matters for now is that this guy has a dangerous mental illness and that he doesn't entirely know what he's doing
you should probably snip that, image macros are bannable
Now he is fucked because you quoted him.
Does anyone have any links to evidence that schizophrenia is actually physically observable as a difference in the brain or it's chemical configuration and not just based on the observation and moral judgement of psychiatrist/psychologist? Just curious.
are you retarded
Schizophrenia is associated with subtle differences in brain structures, found in 40 to 50% of cases, and in brain chemistry during acute psychotic states.[2] Studies using neuropsychological tests and brain imaging technologies such as fMRI and PET to examine functional differences in brain activity have shown that differences seem to most commonly occur in the frontal lobes, hippocampus and temporal lobes.[52] Reductions in brain volume, smaller than those found in Alzheimer's disease, have been reported in areas of the frontal cortex and temporal lobes. It is uncertain whether these volumetric changes are progressive or preexist prior to the onset of the disease.[53] These differences have been linked to the neurocognitive deficits often associated with schizophrenia.[54] Because neural circuits are altered, it has alternatively been suggested that schizophrenia should be thought of as a collection of neurodevelopmental disorders.[55]

are you retarded
He isn't retarded he is just uninformed.
He isn't retarded he is just uninformed.
yeah you're right i mean is retarded even a real thing???? all those people with down syndrome are just faking it, theres no real proof of any difference in the brain!!!
yeah you're right i mean is retarded even a real thing???? all those people with down syndrome are just faking it, theres no real proof of any difference in the brain!!!
You completely misunderstood what I said. Congratulations.
Funny, I'm in the middle of writing a paper about the insanity defense.
You completely misunderstood what I said. Congratulations.
no no, i understood. i just used it as a opportunity to mock him.
Funny, I'm in the middle of writing a paper about the insanity defense.
what is your opinion on it my brother is a paranoid shizophrenic so I always love to hear peoples opinions about how they are sub-human and should be thrown in padded cells for the rest of their lives [editline]1[/editline] being sarcastic by the way
imagine a schizophrenic guy/girl with alzheimers, would the alzheimers like cancel out the schizophrenia
no depending on how severe you could have a much more dangerous person on your hands.
what is your opinion on it my brother is a paranoid shizophrenic so I always love to hear peoples opinions about how they are sub-human and should be thrown in padded cells for the rest of their lives [editline]1[/editline] being sarcastic by the way
I'm writing a generalized research paper that fails to include my own opinions. Personally I believe that, in terms of criminal justice, they should be tried and persecuted like everyone else. It's not really an issue I feel too strongly about though, and I'm fairly certain I could be swayed to either side given the circumstances.
Personally I believe that, in terms of criminal justice, they should be tried and persecuted like everyone else. It's not really an issue I feel too strongly about though
this attitude is why they are treated as sub-humans good job
this attitude is why they are treated as sub-humans good job
Please, do explain. I don't believe that they're sub-humans, which is why I believe they should be treated like regular adults in accordance to the law. If we're going to argue, I'd like to request that you refrain from such sensationalist and childish accusations.
REALLY? The guy is hearing voices in his head and he, apparently, doesn't go to get help?
The point of things like paranoid schizophrenia and psychosis is that you believe the voices and delusions are real.
So is the guy completely free? I understand that he obviously doesn't have control over his illness but is it really alright just releasing him? I would hope at the very least they would be providing him with some therapy.

He just recently got the privilege to go out into the community on supervised trips.
Please, do explain. I don't believe that they're sub-humans, which is why I believe they should be treated like regular adults in accordance to the law.
that isn't something that should be blamed on the person who's unwell, that's like yelling at someone for getting ill and sneezing if getting ill involved having severe mental trauma
If you read the article you would know that he is supervised. He just recently got the privilege to go out into the community on supervised trips.
Oh I read the article, completely missed that line.
that isn't something that should be blamed on the person who's unwell, that's like yelling at someone for getting ill and sneezing if getting ill involved having severe mental trauma
Using the example of a homicide case, if a mentally impaired person causes the death of a person because of their psychological affliction, shouldn't it be considered third degree murder?
that isn't something that should be blamed on the person who's unwell, that's like yelling at someone for getting ill and sneezing if getting ill involved having severe mental trauma
But then should someone who poverty-ridden man who robs a bank be blamed for his actions? What about a sociopath? I think it's pretty hypocritical to say a schizophrenic man needs treatment versus prison without saying that just about everyone in prison needs treatment versus prison.
