This makes me a little scared because I've got schizophrenia. =(
If anyone wants to know what its like to have schizophrenia I'd be okay with answering questions.

Since you know you have schizophrenia I assume you've been to a doctor, so what kind of medication are you on? When did you know that you had schizophrenia? Do you really hear voices in your head?
I had a cousin that suffered from some kind of mental problem. Might have been schizophrenia. He jumped off a house and killed himself.
Do you see aliens?
No, while I do see things-sometimes quite bizarre-I've never been under the impression that any of them were aliens.
what is your opinion on it
my brother is a paranoid shizophrenic so I always love to hear peoples opinions about how they are sub-human and should be thrown in padded cells for the rest of their lives

being sarcastic by the way
Well, if they kill someone, they should be.

Sorry to hear about your brother, he might have been, or he could have just been depressed?
I do frequently go to a psychologist and I was diagnosed 3 years ago with paranoid schizophrenia and dysthymia. I do not take medication frequently but I take a large pill every now and then. I'm not exactly sure what's in it and I don't get it from the pharmacy but through another doctor I see.
I've noticed it since I was 6 years old but was reluctant to say anything about it for a long time because I feared I would be put in a clinic and taken away from my family. I do frequently hear voices in my head and sometimes I hallucinate. My hallucinations are a very broad subjects I see many things and at times it can be hard for me to separate reality from what's just in my head.
I keep a journal, a sketchbook for sketching things I see and I attend therapeutic sessions to help keep myself together.
okay so I can behead a chinese immigrant, but all I have to do is be fucking insane to get off scott free?
Such fucking chicken shit

You know they have doctors evaluate the insanity right?
You know, those guys who spend ~7 years getting their title? I think they'd have a good idea of whether someone is sane or not.

the guy that beheaded the other WAS the chinese immigrant. they dont let you off with clinically insane unless you actually have had a mental evaluation, otherwise itd be abused left and right

Are you comparing someone who asked a genuine question to somebody with Down Syndrome?
What are you doing

Yeah ok. Go ahead and choose to have paranoid schizophrenia.

Heh, not brother, but cousin.
That's very interesting. What do you see? Does hallucinations have to be of negative nature? All the times I've heard about hallucinations connected to schizophrenia, they are depicted as horrible. But they don't have to be that way do they? I hope you don't mind my questions, I'm just really interested in human psychology and how the brain works.

Yep, being mentally ill enough to not be able to stop yourself from killing someone gets you the treatment you need, rather than jailed while still suffering from the delusions that make you dangerous to other people. Fucking hell, you're acting like you can just write down "I is not wise" on the police report and get away with killing anyone.
It's wierd how mental illness can rapidly change someone. My mum had a huge spike of depression, something which is seen as a 'minor' mental illness (or even a non-illness by some people), and her personality changed. She came out of hospital for a week (a bad idea), and then said that rather than going back to hospital, she'd prefer to go out and kill someone, so she could to jail so she could be away from everyone else and kill herself.
If someone does commit a crime because they suffer from a mental illness, they need help and support to get better. Throwing them in jail doesn't just solve nothing - it creates new issues!
Some people here seem to think that you hear and interpret these voices with a clear mind, which is wrong.
I don't understand how he's not guilty. He's obviously guilty, people stood there and watched him do it and he even admits to doing it. Just because he's batshit insane that doesn't excuse him for brutally taking some innocent man's life.
Because he had no desire to end that man's life, nor did he intend to harm him. He had little to no connection to reality at that point. It also doesn't excuse him, to some degree - he's liable to spend a large portion of the rest of his life in psychiatric care to ensure he can't and won't do the same thing again.

Ok, when you hear god talking in your head tell us that it's a voice in your head or it's actually him
He had no idea what to think because not only was it a random (and probably lucid voice, if thats the word) but the voice said it was god
I'm going to call BS on Mamok saying he's diagnosed with schizophrenia paranoid type. For one, treatment of a patient with anti-psychotics doesn't entail taking a "big pill" every once in awhile. That's just not how psychotropic medication therapy works lol. Also, if you do take medication you wouldn't frequently become actively psychotic. I also refuse to believe you were diagnosed with schizophrenia 3 years ago (which has an typical onset in the 20's for males) and you don't know which anti-psychotics you take. Also, Doctors don't just hand you medication. That's what Pharmacies are for, so are you getting black market magic anti-psychotics? Having both audio and visual hallucinations isnt very common either, and if you're saying you're frequently actively psychotic while on medication therapy and you're not in a hospital...well I'm going to say that's a little fishy.
you're gonna call bullshit over the internet?
you're gonna call bullshit over the internet?
Being someone who works on an inpatient psychiatric ward, yes lol. What he says doesn't make sense. Aren't you going to medical school or something too? I'd expect you to at least know a little bit about how medication therapy works...
you work in a psychiatric ward yet you're willing to figure out someone's mental state via a couple of non-detailed posts?
now THAT is fishy to me
not guilty by reason of insanity
are you going to argue he is not clinically insane
Yeah, I'm pretty certain this was premeditated.

yeah i'm not gonna start calling shit like that based on two posts, that's not something you learn in any academic institution
yeah i'm not gonna start calling shit like that based on two posts, that's not something you learn in any academic institution
You don't work in Psych so I wouldn't expect you to know the symptoms/treatment regarding schizophrenia. Are you arguing for the sake of arguing? What the guy said was pretty freakin wrong in regards to schizophrenia/routine hospital procedures.
well he is Canadian...
they are all sorts of wrong
well he is Canadian...

yeah considering they give him a big "schizophrenia be-gone" pill to swallow every now and then.
How do you know they are just a douchebag? Back in the day we used to think that schizophrenia meant that the person was either possessed, or just plain out a bad person. We used to think sociopaths were just bad people before we understood more about the disorder. We used to think autistic kids were just retarded or ill-disciplined.
How do you know they are not just some ultimate assholes in some cases? Because it's definitely the case sometimes. Not sure how you could deny that.
How do you know they are not just some ultimate assholes in some cases? Because it's definitely the case sometimes. Not sure how you could deny that.
Because most mental disorders have hallmarks, and I'm pretty sure that when schizophrenia gets bad enough it is literally impossible to hide, what with their entire connection with reality breaking down.
Also I'm not saying this Chinese guy was just an asshole douchebag for beheading someone. He was definitely insane/schizophrenic from what I read.
