I think WiiU may be the sega dreamcast of this generation
came in far too early, EA won't support this (the same exact thing happened with the dreamcast), XBOX360 tier hardware (yeah they still make games for it but everyone is preset with the new shit on their mind) and came with a handful of games
I don't like seeing nintendo like this but eh
Oh god, Another one of you guys...
Lets try to end the Dreamcast comparisons early in this thread,
1. EA stopped supporting with the Saturn, Not the Dreamcast but they did continue it during the Dreamcast, But more companies ignored the Dreamcast then have said they will ignore the Wii U.
2. Sega was millions in debt, Nintendo made its first loss in the last 30 years or so last year. Source: http://playeressence.com/microsoft-and-sony-are-closer-to-going-third-party-than-nintendo-lets-get-the-facts-straight/
3. Specs doesnt matter. Good games matter, Also the Dreamcast launched in US with 19 games, More then the PS3 at launch and look how its turned out, Launch game numbers don't really matter in terms of success.
4. Look at the Wii, It was low powered, It was hugely successful for Nintendo (I will admit it was crappy, But terms of sales $$$)
I thought bout getting a Wii U, but I'm always concerned that it's gonna end up like my original Wii: Collecting dust behind the TV.
the only one I've seen is mine
handheld consoles just aren't the thing they were in the US now
It's huge over here in Australia.
I get atleast 6 streetpasses every day.
^ Same here dude. I've had my wii for 2 years now but I've barely played it all. I'm interested in the WiiU but I won't make the same mistake. Ha.
(PS: My 3DS was also collecting dust up until the point that AC:NL came out)

1. Loss of EA support is still a huge factor, seeing as they're a huge publisher with a lot of devs and games pumping through their system you don't want them to not support you and make lame excuses
2. -
3. -
4. The thing that made the Wii sell was that it had a great launch day with games ready and it was something new in terms of how you played it, while some could argue the WiiU's gamepad is astonishing it really isn't anything new
I bought it then sold it a month later
The Reason I didn't really give a damn about Wii-U is that that market is not aimed for the hardcore gamers out there similar to the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The games they support was suppose to be family friendly, health, and easy games, something that kids can get into without much violence and such.
Kids these days love the Nintendo Wii because they introduced them to the same characters that we all known of since we was kids, like super mario, legend of zelda, and other interesting characters. However what the wii and the wii-u don't have is enough interesting games to keep us wanting to play it... they need to go back to their roots, Look at how successful the SNES was compared to the genesis. When i was growing up, I loved the SNES because not only did I played super mario world a thousand times, i've played Actraiser, Super Mario RPG: legend of the seven stars, power rangers, Aliens, R-type, and not only that, In the future, i've heard there was remakes of the original SNES games that I've never heard of coming to the PS1 like chrono trigger and final fantasy 3.
What they need to make the Wii-U successful is not to beg us to buy a Wii-U, BRING THE DEVELOPERS TO THE WII-U! The Wii-U is useless without any good developers making good games, bring in pokemon stadium 3, another monster hunter, bring in something for the hardcore players to want to get the Wii-U. Make us WANT the wii-U, otherwise this will end up being one of the quickest platforms to expire, and it looks like it will if you look how many people have their eyes on the PS3.
Whoever buys a console with no games at the beginning is an idiot. Just wasted money.
I will buy one at the end of the year for the new 3D Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and so on.
Jesus Nintendo, hold off a bit on the 3DS games, give Wii U some of that treatment. Price cuts won't do anything, it's games. Always games.

The only reason I'm holding out is a price cut.

What difference does it make if you know there's going to be good games on it in the end? If you have the money now, you may as well do it incase you don't have the money later. When good games come out I won't have to worry about having a shitload of money on me in order to buy both the console and the games.
I'd buy a WiiU if I wasn't saving up for a PS4 :(

Because the price might drop or the "good games" might not be as good as you thought.
I'm waiting for a lower price or a better bundle.
And of course for the U's more badass games. Smash bros. 4, pikmin 3 etc etc.
I'll buy a WiiU as soon as I can upgrade the hardware, it lets me use a keyboard and mouse, and I can use whatever operating system I want.
I bought the system day 1 as a birthday present for myself but since the launch I've bought one game, monster hunter. The first party games just don't interest me enough to buy it. Pikmin 3 is the only game I'm waiting on for at least a while
I really love nintendo, but hate what they have out right now
compared to PC and other consoles, wiiu is really nothing special at all.
Getting Wii U for Super Smash, that Lego city game and for your usual Nintendo games like Zelda and Mario.
Also keep it down with the re-releases please.
I'm only buying one once some of the good stuff comes out. I have no trouble being able to afford one.
I'm planning to buy a Wii U, but I just don't feel like shelling out the money for it right now, seeing as I won't actually play it due to the lack of games I'm interested in.
[editline]13th July 2013[/editline]
No point in spending all that money just to have it sitting in the corner of my room for a couple months till the games I want are released.

The 3DS Games that have been coming out were announced in 2010 and have only just come out in the past few months...It's not like these games were developed in a few months or in the time that the 3DS was in a bad spot. Nintendo simply chooses to announce games publicly when they're actually about to come out (the only exception is Pikmin 3 with it's 5-6 year long development cycle.) There's apparently a bunch of games that they haven't yet announced for Wii U and that's probably because most of those won't come out until late 2014 or 2015. The rumored amount of titles they have in development are 19 games including the ones we're getting in the next couple of months and the ones they've announced previously. (SMTxFE and Yarn Yoshi respectively, since they didn't really say anything about those two at E3)
a new Earthbound
Not happening and I'll tell you why. Itoi doesn't want to write a new one. Mother is a series known for it's storytelling rather than gameplay. And Itoi is a main force behind it. But first and foremost, he is not a game developer. He does a ton of different things and Mother 3 was originally supposed to come out not too long after Earthbound. But that game was stuck in development hell that was similar to Duke Nukem Forever's (Multiple delays and changes to the platform it would be on.) What could they do with it if they didn't have Itoi? You really can't do anything with it. Without the story, the game is just a barebones RPG. Nobody else would be able to do the series justice other than Itoi. And he's gone on record to say that a fourth game would be "impossible."
People are just way too attached to a series that, in my opinion, isn't really all that good to begin with. Especially considering that most of the people who want a new one haven't even played it. You're not missing much unless you really care about story.

I prefer the PC myself, but I'm hardly going to deny that Nintendo makes some really nice stuff
I would if it had better hardware and more third party support.
Which isn't happening.
I'll buy one for Wind Waker HD
Eh, someone pointed out to me when it was first announced that all the shading effects kind of ruins the cel-shaded look, and now I can't unsee it.
Sorry Nintendo, getting a PS3 instead... Those exclusives weight more than yours...
But honestly, hope they start selling more. I'd buy one if I had a lot of income...
Miyamoto did not say "Please buy a Wii U soon", he said "So I think it's time to buy a Wii U soon!".
Sensationalist to the core.
I would if it had better hardware and more third party support.

If it had half of those things I would get it.
Really, I think the biggest problem was they released the system too early. Around a year later, after ironing out all the firmware kinks and building up a solid library ready to go within the opening year instead of (naively) hoping third-parties wouldn't bail on the console right after it launches, plus the advertising we're finally seeing now...
That would've been a good launch. Wii U needed another year in the oven.
i don't understand this
would you prefer it if it was literally the exact same game with better textures?
As opposed to the same exact game with softer shading and the bloom cranked up to 11?
I'm literally just waiting for SSB4 and the retail release of New Super Luigi U, I don't care about anything else really
I literally have two games for it, Avengers: Battle For Earth and Nintendo Land
